The Days (2023)
Worth staying with...
Many comments here about the slow pace and being 'too long', but I found it worth the time. It could have been condensed, but there's something brooding about the Japanese way of doing things. If this was American they would have sent Tom Cruise in to go 'crash bang wallop' and he would emerge heroic and ride off into the sunset, but that's not what is going on here. There isn't a hero, or bad guys. There are clever people trying to solve something they've never encountered before, and some truly inept characters with far too much power. Don't expect the 'normal' story arc: this actually happened. Stay with it, is my tip.
Luther: The Fallen Sun (2023)
If that's your 007 audition...
D-grade Bond copy that starts with promise and quickly descends into 'you must be joking' territory. Remember the old action flicks when the good bloke was getting the suitcase beaten out of him while six other baddies were standing around watching until it was their turn? When you couldn't help but yell at the tele "why would you do that?". This is that film. Luther has been a great character in the tele series, but this is a jump to the feature film realm really lacking substance. Performances are great, it's just a paper-thin plot that's been stretched beyond credibility.
The 007 script that was rightfully rejected.
La Brea (2021)
Sci-Fi Soap
I gave this a go because it was filmed in locations I know well, around my home town of Melbourne, and indeed I saw many familiar spots. Once I stopped recognising places, I realised I had fallen into a soapie of galactic proportion. The sheer quantity of clichés contained here should give a the judges of a well-known book of records reason for a stiff drink. We Australians hate it when the Americans try to make Oz look like their country, (and yes we like having your business), but please bring better material. Looks like you're taking the mick.
In all, a sci-fi soap opera with few redeeming features, apart from the stunning Australian scenery!
In the Court of the Crimson King: King Crimson at 50 (2022)
What a let down.
What offered a story was as deep as a teaspoon. Thank god there are additional music tracks, because I learned nothing about a band I love. Perhaps that's the point? Nothing from Tony Levin, very little of the past, apart from old film clips. I really hoped to learn more about King Crimson's heritage but there was nothing of note. We know Robert IS Crimson, now, but what of Wetton, Lake, et al? What of the music? I learned nothing of that, nor did I hear it. A wasted opportunity.
Even teasers were unexplained. Dissaponted. What you saw in the trailer is about all you get. Really disappointed...
Medical Police (2020)
Oh, dear...
Take an ounce of Brooklyn 99, add some Scrubs, and remove all actual humour. Did someone actually get paid for writing this? Dire.
