Love, Death & Robots: Sonnie's Edge (2019)
Incredible Eyecandy Paired With a Meh Story
Right off the bat, this show feels like it's trying too hard. It has very beautiful animation, but the story is just so damn cliche. Even with their own little spin on the protagonist, the story felt like something I have heard and seen a thousand times already. It feels really forced and edgy which leaves the whole thing feeling too unrealistic, contrasting the lifelike animation. Now, one thing that this show did extremely well is symbolism. There is one scene in particular that was so obvious but still worked very well, and it was even given more meaning later on in the story. The big twist was pretty predictable, like a halfhearted Black Mirror twist. Overall, might watch more for the good animation if I have time, otherwise not going to watch more.
Venom (2018)
Just go into without expectations
This movie is a fun and entertaining action movie. No groundbreaking plot or themes, just a fun little ride. I read negative review before viewing and came to terms that this movie wasnt going to be a masterclass film, just a weird, quirky little thing. I thoroughly enjoyed it for what it was: funny and sometimes a little heartwarming moments between Eddie Brock and Venom and, of course, the only reason I really wanted to see the movie, it has tons of great screen time action with venom and other symbiotes! I loved seeing the action! It was an imaginative and fun little movie that I will gladly buy on bluray!
Sidenote: Tom Hardy really saves the movie for me! You can definitely tell that he is into this role and loves the character. Seeing an actor and character blend together so well just feels right and I think this movie nailed it!
Lily and Lucille's Hip Creature (2014)
True Art
A real catch of a movie. Really captures a feel not easily duplicated!
A Quiet Place (2018)
I'm lost for words...
I am a huge John Krasinki fan from his portrayal of Jim in The Office so naturally, I had to see A Quiet Place. The only word I can really use to describe this film is focused. It has a message that it conveys excellently and wastes no time with any pointless sub-plots. I am still shaking from sadness, hope, fear, adrenaline, and thought. I did not expect this movie to be as good as it is. Suprisingly, this movie punched me in the feels hard. As a 16 year-old boy, crying is frowned upon. This movie brought me to the edge of tears. It is less a genre movie with a story but more of a story that happens to fall into the thrilling genre. I would not consider this movie a horror movie but an intense one that all can enjoy. Everything in this film feels genuine and handcrafted with love. The acting is also one of the best performances(from all actors) I have seen in my life. With very little dialogue, the actors expression become key to a good performance and boy do they deliver. Overall a wonderful movie that I will undoubtedly view again.
God's Not Dead (2014)
As a Christian...
As a Christian I am embarrassed and ashamed that this movie exists. It is completely unrepresentative of actual life. It demonizes all non-believers and gives a completely wrong message. It also victimizes Christians, something I have rarely felt in my life.
