Yellowstone (2018)
Kept me watching
Binge watched all available episodes as of April 2023. Looking forwards eagerly to the next episodes in Season 5. Been fascinating so far and I really don't understand the many scornful reviews prevalent here. For sure Beth and Jamie are frustrating and enraging most of the time but their story keeps me hooked. If folk don't like it, stop moaning and turn off!
Really like Jimmy's character and it's great to see him doing well and being acknowledged.
Monica is breathtakingly gorgeous. I could watch her all day. Just hope she grows her gorgeous hair back long.
Hope the ranch survives in all its glory.
Yellowstone: Grass on the Streets and Weeds on the Rooftops (2022)
Addictive viewing
Just got to the end of Season 4 having binge watched to this point. At this time it looks like 8 new episodes await with new ones to come. I regularly look at other comments here which I'd say are largely positive. Whilst there are characters and storylines that are annoying at times, you have to take the rough with the smooth.
I'm a fan and love the show. I watched 1883 first which I thought was magnificent. Next I saw 1923 which I enjoyed less but still a great show. I appreciate the brutality and reality of the shows. Shocking stuff at times.
Ok, which characters are my favourites, warts and all. I absolutely adore Monica. The actress is stunningly beautiful, captivatingly gorgeous. I can forgive her anything. I like Kayce too, he's a good guy.
Jimmy is great, I'm always rooting for him.
Now to Beth. What a fantastic actress Kelly is. Her character pushes and pushes, further and further. This I think isn't realistic or at least, she'd have met her comeuppance by now. I feel for Jamie but don't understand why he's held responsible for the abortion etc? That's down to Beth and her father surely?
Don't know how much longer this rather ridiculous state of affairs can go on. Make it stop please, one way or another.
Servant: Awake (2023)
Out in the open
So now Dorothy knows. Great episode. This whole 4 seasons has been a long haul and if I'm honest, in the early days I struggled at times, with frustration. The makers have prolonged the tension, nay the agony for so long and to be fair, exquisitely and expertly. Thoroughly enjoyed this episode and can't wait to see the final one. Everyone has been excellent. The whole cast are to be applauded. Especially Leanne who is absolutely gorgeous. I hope to see more of her in the future, in brighter roles hopefully, having fun and being young. I know my preference for the ending and hope Dorothy is able to finally come through. It'll be a relief!
1883 (2021)
Spectacular, magnificent and unmissable.
Fancied watching Yellowstone at some point but had plenty of other things to see first. Then I came across 1883 and realised it's a prequel so need to start there. I became engrossed very quickly. Massive fan of Sam Elliot but unfamiliar with everyone else. I'm a nearly 64 years old male who unashamedly fell in love with this series. Especially the captivating and beautiful Elsa played by Isabel May. She gave a breathtaking performance and I couldn't take my eyes off her. Cinematography was wonderful. Never felt so emotionally moved by the sadness and loss encountered. I could barely focus for crying to much and so frequently. An outstanding production in every way. I can't fault it. Quite probably the most incredible thing I'll ever watch. Now I discover that the next prequel is 1923. I'll watch that next for continuity and then presumably finally get to Yellowstone.
War of the Worlds: Episode #3.8 (2022)
Finally it comes together
I love Sci Fi so have to inevitably endure some dross. To be fair, the first season of this, I struggled and wouldn't have cared if no more made. Some improvements evident in second season but still too often frustrating. However I've really enjoyed this final season where it all comes together. I have closure now and can recommend this. You just have to stick with it. Interesting take on the original. I really shouldn't be surprised at the conduct of humanity. So, this in many respects plays out as our history teaches us. Anyway, give it a go, you've nothing to lose and you might enjoy it along the way.
NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service: High Tide (2018)
Bishop is a stunner
Wow, how drop dead gorgeous is Bishop. What a beautiful lady she is. She always plays goody two shoes as Ellie but I thought she was great being racy and provocative. She's certainly got all the equipment to be a femme fatale.
Cosmos (2019)
Understated but effective
I really enjoyed this. Really low key, three very ordinary guys and not much happening. However it feels real, authentic and is all the better for the pace and style adopted. It kept my interest. Well done. A nice change from endless, mindless action and effects. You really grow to like these guys.
Outer Range: The West (2022)
Oh dear!
Had to hang in there and watch until the end but I'm essentially none the wiser. Still don't get Royal's ongoing misery? He shot his father by accident! He created the hole? Autumn was seriously deranged also Billy. Unbelievable and crucially unlikeable characters. Not happy.
Star Trek: Picard: Farewell (2022)
Closure at last.
Final episode thankfully made better sense and ended satisfactorily. Main complaint was that the season was too long. It lost its way and I was losing interest. All ok in the end though and my faith restored.
Outer Range (2022)
Confused!
I really want to like this as it should be my cup of tea. However I've watched all available episodes and am essentially none the wiser. Biggest problem is that I don't really like any of the characters. You have to be rooting for someone. You need to care. Autumn's character is beyond annoying. Can't figure her out but beginning to think she has serious mental health issues. That should make me care about her but it doesn't. Too many really weird and unrealistic characters. I'll keep watching though because I have to have answers.
Reacher (2022)
Finally an actor worthy of Reacher
Binge watched this in one day, couldn't wait. Read all the books many years back, devoured eagerly as each new one came out. Have never watched the Cruise movies and never will. Thoroughly enjoyed the series and hope for many, many more. Reacher is a unique and fascinating character. This has been too long in coming. Great stuff.
War of the Worlds: Episode #2.8 (2021)
Final episode better than most previously.
This has been incredibly frustrating. This episode made more sense, couple with the one before. Still some confusion at the end and I suppose there could be another season? I'll certainly watch if there is.
The Pact (2021)
Beyond ridiculous.
I stuck with this because I hate to leave a thing unfinished. It got worse and worse. I despised just about every character more and more. Most annoying was bloody Anna and her dopey police husband. Too much beggared belief.
Line of Duty: Episode #6.7 (2021)
A reflection of real life
Of course I wanted more. Presumably the Chief Constable is the real offender but he continues to get away with it. Just reflect on the real state of play in Britain and you see institutionalised corruption is now the norm. Bozo et al aka the establishment rules. They look after their own and always have. The ending shows how true life invariably works.
All Creatures Great & Small (2020)
A successful reboot.
The original series is one of my all time favourite shows. I read all the books. Indeed this is sacrosanct territory.
I honestly didn't think this would be so good. My wife and I love it. Can't fault it at all. More please.
Karppi (2018)
Irritating, unfortunately.
I love Scandinavian drama but this didn't do it for me. Just finished Season 2 and couldn't recall first season. This isn't a patch on Saga Noren and The Bridge. Karppi's character is endlessly annoying and unrealistic. Indeed I struggled to like anyone. The step daughter is an absolute pain and would have escaped the consequences of her actions if left to Karppi!! The photography is bleak and beautiful to be fair but the characters just bleak. Looks like there will be a Season 3 but on this evidence, best avoided. I was losing the will to live.
Servant (2019)
Went downhill rapidly.
First of all I'm a massive Apple fan and love most of what I've seen on TV+. However, whilst I had initially high hopes for this, it's becoming ever more ridiculous and frankly annoying. The Nanny is tasty though!
