Slow Horses (2022)
Soon running out of steam
Excellent characters, with credible backstories and complex relationships - started off with such high expectations and a proper storyline! Lots of good subtext with alcoholism/addiction being a character in its own.
And real enemies of the state and terrorists. Then it got boring...
By season 3, MI5 is so bored with themselves and irrelevant that they needed to create their own drama? Kidnapping their own and even resorting to killing their own. Luckily the ridiculous caricature Spider was due for a cull! And the Zombie attack road-sign just emphasized the utter boredom. How does this get any worse? Starts as an 8/10, but very soon devolved to at most a 3/10. Grey books...very light grey...
New Amsterdam (2018)
Medical drama turning political
I used to cry for the amazing human stories of individuals and the medical staff attending to them. I never noticed or judged any character on race or political stance. I did not even notice it, unless it was subtle and thoughtfully presented. But, then the plot turned vicious - in a matter of episodes, season 3 was no longer a medical show, but a political posturing. I think every cause it presented from here on forth was portrayed as victims instead of the solid characters they were up to the end of season 2.
I am disappointed and heartbroken that some of the strongest characters turned victim.
Los pacientes del doctor García (2023)
Only Starting in episode 5
The first four episodes are superfluous and the historical context could have been condensed to one episode, maybe two, with a lot less sex and nudity. It will put off anyone with a historical curiosity - to suffer through all this frivolous love making. Gratuitous and unnecessary to the story, it just delays the whole thing to the point of utter boredom. Edit. Edit. Edit!
Choose a genre and deliver on it. Historical drama or porn.
I read the synopsis, which is probably the only reason I stayed with it, hoping the story will start at some point. Fifth episode finally! Engaging the right audience early on is not what this was about.
The White Lotus (2021)
So yellow filtered I contracted jaundice.
I really tried to relax and just enjoy this one, but I watched about 4 episodes, then gave up... Never saw any blue sky, not even on this tropical island where the sun is supposed to shine in a bright blue sky - clearly the sun is shining at twilight strength all day - everything and everyone is all yellowed out! Tropical island full of people suffering jaundice. And overly yellow filtered I might add.
The plot is lame.
Understand that the intent is for characters to be caricatures, but it's just not funny enough to keep me entertained. Slow paced and a lame repetitive soundtrack.
I gave up.
Blonde (2022)
Filmography overload
Great actress. Good acting. She was let down by gratuitous, unedited reels of film!
A story worth telling, but maybe the good parts too?
Unfortunately everything is overshadowed by ridiculous "filming techniques" for "dramatic effect". Overexposed white light effect - Ad infinitum... In focus, out of focus. Black and white. Name it, it was added, several times, for minutes on end!
A whole movie without a noteworthy soundtrack.
It was like marking first year film student assignments on a Friday night. 300 students, all wanting to add a technique, all getting their 10 minutes - forgetting the story!
A ruthless edit to 1h30 min would have saved this mess.
Greyhound (2020)
Cold wet men shouting numbers to each other
Cold wet men shouting numbers to each other - probably one of the most boring movies I've seen in years. Gosh it's boring. Really really boring.
