À ma soeur! (2001)
Ruthless and Violet, Ultimately, Pointless...SPOILERS AHEAD....
Just got done watching this film, and am disturbed and feel cheated. This film was about a "family" ( although,I thought the acting there was not believable in trying to portray a family that actually wants to spend time to be together enough, to want to go on a vacation to the seaside.) The sisters relationship, was dysfunctional and wrought with cruelty to one another. The "parents" did not give a flying fig about the girls or even each other. It was basically about a college-age young man who statutory-rapes a VERY underage girl as her younger sister watches and listens in their shared bedroom. It goes nowhere and ultimately they break up when her mother finds out. The end feels extremely tacked -on and goes to a very exploitative and brutal ending. It actually ends with a freeze frame on a character's face. (?) Don't waste your time on this.
Tart (2001)
Not Good, Not Horrible...
This was a much- overhyped movie. No likable main characters, especially the two or three leads. Slow, meandering, NOT some quirky, coming-of-age or hip- indie movie it tries to be. Even though it is clearly pandering to this demographic. However, they didn't bet on this demographic having a working brain or any kind of taste.
Hereditary (2018)
Pretentious Tripe....Waste of Collette and Byrne.
Could have been a really great modern update of a cult picture, aka "Rosemary's Baby". They had the acting chops with Toni Collette and Gabriel Byrne. But the writing was plodding and there was no character development or exposition as to any reason that lay in any of the family members' actions. ( Other than Byrne , who was the only rock-like , stable, normal family member). No flashbacks that may have given us some idea as to Annie relationship with her mom, Ellen, in any part of their lifetime. Although, the writers and directors probably wanted that , to keep the audience off kilter, only relying on Annie's POW. The children were not only physically, but extremely emotionally and mentally unattractive . You felt absolutely no empathy for them. Especially, Charlie. The movie took way too long to tell it's story. It was not the least bit scary in a horror film genre but more sad as a family drama, that went wildly off the rails. Silly at the ending and could not hold a candle to its predecessors in the genre such as " The Omen" and " Rosemary's Baby." In the end, it reminded me of the ill-received Nicholas Cage movie, "The Wicker Man" . I felt stupid for investing time in such a silly movie.
Underneath (2015)
Absorbing and Intense....
The acting is definitely top notch, which the directors obviously realize d and were sparring with the direction , focusing on that particular situation, letting the main character 's motivation slowly become known to the audience. The actor that played The Cop was good and his style was spare but effective. A little reminiscent of a more self aware Ray Donovan. Liked it. Would recommend.
Showgirls (1995)
"PURE. UNADULTERATED. CRAP."
Horrible horrible, horrible acting, writing, directing, etc. Just, nope..... Crap like this is the product of the Weinsteins and Ratners and Spaceys , Cosby's, Polanski 's etc. ,heyday . Would give no stars if possible. Just, NO! In the name of al that is in Good Taste and Holy!
The Abducted (2018)
Just Baaaaaaaaad........
Horrible, horrible acting, annoying characters that you couldn't root for, and once again, thank you Millennial filmmakers, an abrupt ending that was lazy, stupid and resolved nothing. If your looking for scares, this is pretty lame. They ripped off parts of "The Ring", "American Horror Story"and every other good horror movie or series. And managed to do it quite poorly, as well. The "Ending " was a hackneyed " found footage" epilogue. Very cheap quality, I know that movies don't have to be expensive to be good but these people did not make up for a tiny budget in story , concept or acting. I only watched the first episode about the couple that moved into a " haunted house." AHS makes this look like an episode of " Romper Room." Do yourself a favor and stare blankly at a bare wall for an hour or so. You will most likely be able to conjure up something way scarier and more entertaining.
I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House (2016)
LESS THAN 1 STAR
Horrible, Horrible Movie! EXTREMELY SLOW and POINTLESS! If you reach the end of this quagmire, you will be incensed at the waste of your valuable time. I kept waiting to be pulled in but never was, I should have turned it off, but that's on me. I don't know anyone who liked this movie at all. Take my advice and skip it, just about anything is better to watch than this crappy movie.
True Nature (2011)
AWEFUL, TRULY, AWEFUL
We could not believe how utterly terrible this movie was....Storyline went NOWHERE. There was not even one character we could empathize with. The characters never fleshed themselves out, so there was no getting to know or understand their individual motivations except in the broadest sense possible. The only reason we stayed with it so long was to find out just where the main character had been for a year. Well, didn't happen. Just a muddle of images and mood music that was as pointless as it was inscrutable. Even for a throw- away movie on Amazon Prime Video, this was bush league. Well, won't waste your precious time, or mine by stating the many flaws of this crap fest. Just, don't. You'll be glad you didn't. Staring at a blank wall would be preferable to watching this dreck. Would give zero stars if I could.
How It Ends (2018)
TOTAL MINDF**CK!
This movie must have been made by some Millennials who got too bored with the script and just gave up and went home. The end of the movie is a huge middle finger to the audience, for giving them an hour-plus of their time. Highly unlikely situations. Many times when the viewer's intelligence is insulted. I won't waste anymore time on this wretched movie Just listen to the other reviewers reviews, and do yourself a favor- stay away!
The Office (2001)
LOVE,LOVE,LOVE!!
Most clever, dry British humor. Just as good as our American office(who is it's father). Hilarious in a whole different way from our version but happily there is room enough for these two great shows!
