Liebes Kind (2023)
Brilliantly done, did the book justice.
I read the book several years ago & it took me a moment to realise that this show was based on that book. Of course I had to watch to see how they'd adapted it & I wasn't disappointed. Apart from the dubbing which I do struggle with with any film, this was very well brought to the screen & I thoroughly enjoyed it. Hannah's character was particularly well done, very dark feeling but it was very well acted all around. Full of tension & really kept you guessing, even though I'd read the book I couldn't remember the whole plot line or outcome. If you enjoyed the drama, read the book you'll love it.
Nowhere Special (2020)
Something special
James Norton and little Daniel, wow what a pairing for this sadly based on fact film. Had me in tears for the last 20 minutes at least but the way they told this story of true parental love & having to let go was beautifully done.
Red Dead Redemption II (2018)
A world & story to truly loose yourself in. Once there you won't want to leave.
I'm on my 2nd playthrough of RDR2 & I can honestly say this game has captured me like no other ever has, or probably ever will. All the main points have been mentioned in other reviews but for me it is the way you can really get lost in this Wild West era. You can choose to follow the main story missions one day & the next take your faithful horse & explore the map to your hearts content. There are so many people to meet, things to find & puzzles to discover. The NPCs will capture your heart as well as the main story characters who have been written & acted with so much care, you'll fall in love with them. It really is such a beautiful world you won't want to leave & the detail & care that went into the credits is testament to this. I couldn't stop watching & love that even every NPC gets a mention. This game will draw you in from the first moment & will not let go & when you've finished you will play it again, and again. And you'll play it online & watch others play it, it's just that special.
Soulmates (2020)
Creepily similar to John Marrs' The One.
I'm only on the first episode but already the whole premise smacks of John Marrs The One book & the subsequent TV show on Netflix. Surely Amazon could come up with their own ideas. I will. Continue to watch d see how it goes but I thought Amazon originals were meant to be just that.
Godless (2017)
I've never been into Westerns but.......
Wow this series is simply breathtaking from start to finish. Honestly the only reason I watched it is that I've been obsessed with playing Red Dead 2 lately & while browsing for something to relax with stumbled on this & I had to check it out. I'm so glad I did, I couldn't get enough & I'm just sad that my Western loving Mama isn't here to watch with me. The music, story, cast & scenery are outstanding & I felt the whole thing was very nicely rounded out and the end. I'll be watching again with my daughter.
It's Complicated (2009)
This is my feel better film, always.
I've always loved Meryl Streep & Nancy Meyer films, so the two together is for me, perfection. This is the movie I always pull out when I'm in an RA flare & relegated to the sofa. I adore everything about it, the characters, Jane's home & bakery (that would be my dream) & the family feel when they're all together. I have it on DVD & it's is my most watched movie ever.
The Walking Dead (2010)
Watch this show or you 'will' be missing out big time.
I was first introduced to TWD when my daughter & her partner bought season 1 on DVD & lent it to me after watching it telling me 'Mum you have 'got' to watch this show'. I'd seen people talking about it on social media as it was currently running season 5, but just thought it wasn't really my thing. How wrong was I?! I sat down and watched Season 1 with my 23 year old son and we were both hooked. We binged the entire thing up to date and now every Monday evening he rushes home from work so we can get our fix of Rick and the gang. I have never, ever enjoyed a show more & let me tell you I watch a lot of shows. I've just been bought the box set 1-6 by my husband for Xmas which will be watched again and again and again!!
This show isn't a show just about zombies and killing them though that is an extremely clever part of the show. This show is about family, those you chose as family, trust and mistrust, love and survival and is about just how far you would (or wouldn't), go to survive and to protect those you love. It's about surviving in a world where are no longer any rules, other than those you or others choose to impose, it's about questioning your values & those of others around you. It's about a world where there are no special celebratory days like birthdays or Xmas's, each day is just another day to stay alive.
Never, ever has a show made me feel excited, anticipatory and scared to watch it all in one go! Watch it, you won't be sorry.
