Fool Me Once (2024)
Meh
The plot is ok. There's nothing shocking about it. Once you know that the lead character is a war criminal, you should know what comes next. Don't try to empathize with her just because she's pretty, White, and lost a loved one. Yes, my review includes spoilers! The lead actor's acting is nothing amazing. The man playing the detective - Adele Altar - his acting is great. I need to look up more of his work! But back to Fool Me Once...don't ever try to get people to empathize with a war criminal. It insults people's intelligence, especially in a world where we're witnessing genocide in real time.
Intimidad (2022)
A nuanced, thoughtful show
When I first saw the ratings, I thought they were ridiculous...then I looked at the reviewers' demographics. They show us an extension of the story shared in the show. Male reviewers' pulled the average rating down while women pulled it up. Why? This show deals with issues like consent, violation of privacy, intimacy, and trust. The show gives us multiple perspectives, and they are not only of women, but it does centre on the female perspective because women are being violated.
The writing and acting on this show are worthwhile. They capture the range of emotions such as shame and guilty, anger and helplessness, agency and depression. Highly recommended to members of all genders.
Per lanciarsi dalle stelle (2022)
A heartwarming film
While this movie may be light entertainment to some who gave it tepid reviews, it is more poignant to those of us who are all too familiar with anxiety and its day-to-day limitations. Seeing a film address it head-on as something with which the protagonist deals is important. Moreover (SPOILER AHEAD) as a woman with Alopecia, it was also poignant for me to see one of the characters develop it and shave her head. While the film may not be full of action and complexities in the plotline, it deals with complex characters who deal with nuanced issues. The actors did the story justice. A longer film would have given more nuance, but this, as it is, is worth watching.
