Falling Skies (2011–2015)
3/10
illogical pseudo dystopia
9 August 2011
Warning: Spoilers
the biggest letdown of this show: it is an insult to intelligence.

starts out with stuff like: "hide" in a school, but post guards on the roofs.

They capture an alien alive and let their guard down on it multiple times. until someone dies ? lame...

Alien super-metal, more firepower then depleted uranium, yet you can melt it down with some campus-lab equipment ?

Aliens able to cross unimaginable distances but basic radio interference completely confuse and damage their communication ? Come on !

Most unrealistic RPG usage i have ever seen in a series/movie.

I could go on and on... and that is just the logical stuff.

The story, characters etc. are written with similar care.

What did the writers smoke ?

Taken (I) (2008)

must see high speed adrenaline thrill
15 March 2009
Every week i meet with the same friends for a movie evening, since many many years. We stumbled over taken without much prior knowledge and were literally blown away.

I was aware that mr. neeson is able to express some serious action since rob roy and gangs of new york.

But what he shows us in taken is probably one of the grimmest action protagonists i have ever witnessed.

It is a modern version of some old charles bronson flicks like the 1974 death wish.

lots of people compare it with bond or the bourne movies. But i must say it is in a completely different league.

It has, and that is most important, believable top notch action. Kudos to anyone involved in the execution. Even though some scenes only last a few seconds, it must have been a lot of work to get this on picture in such a perfect way.

Neeson does not fight the villains, he literally steamrolls over them with remorseless determination.

Aside from that it is loaded with little details in the script pushing this movies ahead of almost any competition...

movies like this will not cross your eyes often, so go check it out.

solid drama with a nice ending

well done non-Hollywood movie which seem to be so rare these days.

it is a story about two brothers, one with a mental problem, the other one with a big heart and the will to do anything to protect his handicapped brother.

the scenery is really beautiful and i hope the environment can catch up after the horrible impact of hurricane Katrina.

the portray of the Cajun people and culture was very interesting to watch on screen.

the final scene is excellent and left me speechless for a minute.

i hope this movie does well on DVD, because it deserves it.

The Signal (2007)
9/10
This one can wrestle with the best of 'em...
23 May 2008
This is suspense and horror at its finest....

I read that some of the viewers find the second transmission to be funny. Not for me, it was madness all over. This movie absorbed me more then any of the latest "zombie" installations. Especially interesting is the fact that everyone gets affected by the signal. Each in his own way (and that's probably what some consider funny). It is not the typical survivors versus evil thing. Everyone fights against his own paranoia here, snapping in and out of reality.

Plenty of gore but they do not go over the top with it. Pacing is good, camera is good (no shaky stuff here) and i liked the minimalistic distortion effects.

It might be a bit confusing for some to watch, because the storytelling is not straight forward. Lots of jumps between timelines and hallucinations from the protagonists, i loved it.

It's like a LSD trip gone wrong...

All three directors are on my watchlist now, thanks for this nice piece of work. Any horror buff should try it, this is some solid stuff.

Gimme more !!!
