Video Nasty homage fun
21 December 2023
If you're a fan of lowbudget and low brow horror with some laughs this has much to offer.

Like most anthology movies it's hit and mix but more hits. Stupid, gory and mostly fun. Some of the humour didn't quite work for me, felt kinda dates but it's mostly really fun and as it's set in the vhs era it should seem dated yeah?

Horror nerds track this down. Bonkers and not for everybody. Some will love it though. Worth watching for the Mary Whitehouse segment alone...... if you remember her of course and I love the mocking of British gangster movie makers.

Some recognisable faces for brit horror fans to.

Low budget but enjoyable Western drama
16 November 2023
Weird this hasn't got great reviews. Maybe it's not been watched by Western fans, I am a fan and this didn't dissapoint. I've noticed it has two titles one with 'Gunfight at' in it. Maybe people watched that and expected more action. There was some action, some quite brutal but in small doses. Its a drama with some interesting characters played by a likable cast. A couple very strong female characters too. Yes, it's low budget but that's nobodies fault. A few parts are slow but there are sone tense moments and it's well worth you're time if fans of the western genre. Actually a lot of younger film lovers may not have seen many or any of these kind of movies,I'd say give it a go it could be a good starting point.

It has the look of a classic spaghetti Western too and the soundtrack certainly helps the fell. A tight script, quiet dialogue driven. 🤠 👢 🐎

Low budget anthology has never been better.

Top clash anthology from some great up and coming British filmmakers.

Bookmarked by the excellent Richard Brake, that menacing smile works perfectly, we could have a new Crypt Keeper on our hands. There's certainly plenty of room to develop from this well paced hour and a half.

Four completely different stories, some better than others but not a dud one in the bunch. The first two being pretty dark and the second two much more lighthearted.

The time flew by, I'm off to research the directors, can't wait to see more of their work.

This movie should tick horror fans boxes, I really hope it finds an audience.

This Punch hits home 👊

What starts out looking like a pretty standard slasher it soon becomes its own thing. Yes there are clear influences from classic horror movies but not just the Hollywood slashers you'd expect.

A very British movies, with some familiar faces from UK TV and horror movies. The cast are all great, especially the 3 newcomers who are the leads. So well shot, seaside towns can be as eerie as hell, the soundtrack adds to the atmosphere. Violent but not too over the top and when it's meant to be it is very funny.

I rarely say this nowadays, but I really hope it becomes a franchise. The ending left me begging for more.

Lowbudget comedy/horror done well.
21 October 2023
Stewart Sparke is one to watch. Mixes British humour into American style comedy so well.

Made on a small budget this looks pretty cool, it lightheartedly homages the type of movies I grew up loving in the 80s and 90s without making fun of them. Some fantastic practical effects and cool puppets. Very little c.g.i used but what is also manages to look retro so doesn't look out of place.

Bonkers plot, fun characters and a likeable cast who are enjoying themselves.

A fantastic Friday night Movie.

Perfect follow up (but not sequel) to Book of Monsters, another movie all B-movie/horror fans need to check out.

I'm really looking forward to what he does next.

Pure 80's fun!!!
1 January 2019
This movie appeared in my recommended section on Amazon quite recently. I remember seeing the cover in video rental shops as a kid but it being a PG certificate I always picked something else. How proud I was to have parents who let me watch the likes of 'Robocop' at a young age to help me develop into the functional, adorable human being I am now. On seeing the cover of this movie after nearly three decades I though it's worth a go. You can't really beat a bit of 80s sci-fi. After nearly 90 mins of synth music, big hair, dodgy make up and wild and wonderful characters I'm glad I did. Loved every single minute of it. That's not to say this is a good movie.... it isn't but it's a hell of a lot of fun. I assumed because of the title this film would take place in outer space, making the girl on the cover an alien. However, it takes place underground making her 'alien' to the folks who leave there. Misleading? Yeah, I think so but they have to sell the movie and space stuff sells, well it did in the 80s, we were all still on a high from Star Wars remember? So that can be forgiven. Unlike the lead character's voice, she speaks in a high pitch that sounds like Micky Mouse, this could work for a minor comic character in a movie but not the lead. Watch out, I'm sure at least once she forgets and uses her normal voice. Extra points for this, adds to the charm. The basic plot is, a nerdy 80s teenage girl travels to an underground city to save her archaeologist father from evil underground folks. Not very original but who cares?? A then modern twist on 'Journey to the centre of the earth' with a female lead. This could have really sold on a big budget with a star of the time. However, thankfully for cult movie fans, this is campy 80s trash... At it's best destined for bargain bins and late night tv. It does look pretty cool, clearly low budget but without looking too fake. The sets look very post apocalyptic, no worse than the old 'Mad Max' movies. It works and adds loads to the film. Ex-super model Kathy Ireland plays the lead. She's clearly mid-20's which all teenagers were in the 80's yeah? Voice aside she does an ok job.A silly film like this is perfect for a debut movie for anyone, especially for someone already famous for something other than acting. Miles above Cindy Crawford's performance in 'Fair Game' or Paris Hilton in..... Erm anything. There's a fair bit of humour, not all of it works, in fact some is so off key and even clique' it makes it even better. A good example is when Ireland smashes her glasses and does a full Velma from scooby doo. Classic!! This is considered a REALLY bad movie but if you want a fun, family friendly piece of 80s cheese you need to look no further. Made by 'Cannon' films and from the director of 'Cyborg' and 'Nemises' we were never going to get an Oscar worthy feature here but what what we do get is another classic slice of 80s video heaven. Track this movie down now, switch your brain off, get the popcorn and enjoy. At worst you'll laugh at it not with it.

What's actually happening with Hollywood comedies
31 December 2018
It's been ten years since Will Farrell and John C Reilly starred in a movie together. Their previous two outtings not only done well at the box office but are now considered to be classic. This movie must have been something many comedy fans have been waiting for... but what went wrong? I don't think I've read such bad reviews for quite sometime. Luckily or some may say unluckily I went to see it before I read anything about the movie. Honestly, I don't think the world needs another Sherlock Holmes spoof, it's been done to death almost as much as spoofing James Bond but I was in the mood for a comedy and this was really my only choice. Comedy at the cinema isn't as easy to come by nowadays I find, so seeing these two guys in a film together again I thought.... it can't be that bad. My honest opinion is... well it isn't that bad. Moments made me laugh, I felt it was paced well and although not as good as their last two movies I felt their fans would get something from it. I do however see why people are disappointed. Ferrell's portrait as Holmes, I can seeing being annoying to many, it's pretty crude for a 12 certificate (UK , guessing PG-13 in the US)..Mostly though I think is the advertising of the rest of the cast. Several actors names are on the posters, they appear in the trailer but are barely in it. Steve Coogan has a cameo at best. Fans of these actors will only come away disappointed. If they were unexpected,I think the audience would come away pleased with their appearances. Like when Bill Murray pops up in 'Zombieland' for example. Overall it made me chuckle a fair bit, which is the point of a comedy and I can't think of many films that have done thst for me this year. Most of the comedies we get are animated (lately far more laughs in a pixar than in a live action movie) or the odd random film like 'tag' which although a better made film than this, I dont think I laughed more. I do miss the days of looking forward to the latest movies from my favourite comic actors like Steve Martin, John Candy, Chevy Chase and even Adam Sandler. I saw Will Farrell as one of the last of this breed. It would be a shame for this misfired movie to ruin his career. I think in years to come it will be seen as more favourable. Also I couldn't help comparing it to the Peter Cook/Dudley Moore 'Hound of the baskervilles' another bomb with a great cast. Actually I say give that movie a go, you may realise this one isn't too bad after all. Hollywood comedy seems in a slump at the moment, we either need to not have our expectations too high or possibly throw movies the way of new talent? Maybe both. After this I'm not sure this pair will get the chance to make other film together. A shame.... who knows though they may need the money and the audience get the long awaited Stepbrothers 2. At least they tried something different I guess, remember the first 'Police Academy' was great but sequels aren't always the way forward.
