Die kleine Hexe (2018)
A cottagecore how to guide
What a cute story! Young witch wants to dance with the older witches, but must first pass their tests. I thought the dubbing would bother me but they did a really good job. The visuals were great, and I wanted to live in her cottage in the forest it was so enchanting. I loved the relationship between the two main characters and their development throughout the movie. The set design and costumes for all the characters were fantastic. If you are into cottagecore fashion, home decorating or general aesthetics this movie is a treasure trove of inspiration as well as a nice addition to your non-scary Halloween playlist.
The Outpost (2018)
Grows into its own
Growing up with shows like young Hercules, Farscape and Seaquest DSV really gave me a love for fantasy shows that focus on characters and had imaginative settings. I popped in on this show off and on throughout seasons one and two, but I really saw the actors and stories find their stride in season three and I couldn't wait for the new episode each week. You can tell the cast was dedicated to giving their characters depth, and the ending was so satisfying. I'm going to miss having a fantasy show to watch.
Faunutland and the Lost Magic (2020)
Visually pretty, but confusing
I really liked the characters and the ideas, but there were a lot of really confusing things like the old men and the pollen. Some exposition would have helped a lot. Also there were a few shots that lingered a bit too long, and I would think "OK ok you can cut to the next shot already." The costumes and the creatures were nice. One of them was supposed to a monster but was entirely too cute for that role. Overall it had a lot of potential, but I don't think it would hold a kid's interest for long.
The Domestics (2018)
Reminded me of wrong turn
It took me awhile to root for the couple, but there were some plot twists and cool action scenes that made me change my mind about the movie. I'm usually not a fan of gratuitous gore, though the fx were really well done. This will be one I'll watch at Halloween along with wrong turn (also a good gory road trip movie).
