Skyggen i mit øje (2021)
View of Ole Bornedal on nuns = View of Nazis on Jews?
I felt uncomfortable watching this second world war movie about nazis in Denmark. The movie looks at nuns in a similar way as nazis were considering Jews. So I refused to watch any further.
During this movie one stereotype about Catholic nuns was thrown on top of the other. Just as the Nazis did with the Jews. So, what is the message here? Depending on the Zeitgeist, it is ok to defecate on certain groups of people? Yesterday the Jews, today the Catholic nuns? And who will it be tomorrow?
I wonder if Ole Bornedal would do the same with other religions like members of the religious cast of Islam for example?
Alias Grace (2017)
What is this story about?
I have watched the whole series and I do not know why. There's nothing really good to say about this series. Yes Sarah Gadon's acting is convincing. But in which story? What is it about?
1917 (2019)
Great cinematography and a very poor storyline
I enjoyed the first half hour and then it went from bad to worse. Basically after 30 minutes the story is filled with inconsistencies. One scene after the other I asked myself what added value it had. A raging river in that part of France? All mamals are dead except the rats and 1 cow next to a farm which has a bucket full of milk sitting next to it. No humans in sight except dead cows. Then suddenly a regiment of Tommies show up. They are urinating against the farm. They drive merrily around in trucks behind ennemy lines while the two main characters had to make their way through barbed wire, mud, corpses of horses and humans, booby traps, crows feasting on bodies etc. Our hero gets shot in the front of his body but when he wakes up he has a wound in the back of his head. And this goes on and on.
Accomplice (2021)
also fun for non-freak cyclists
I really enjoyed watching is documentary. I watched it yesterday and vividly remember several of the mountainbikers and the atmosphere surrounding them: 2 brothers, 2 friends, a guy and his dog, a group of friends. All of the parts of this documentary have the following in common: mountainbiking, nature and friendship.
El robo del siglo (2020)
Gangster series with some fine humor
I enjoyed watching this series. Everything is good: story, pace, acting ... Only the stage setting was a bit cheap and unconvincing. Usually I don't like gangster movies or series with so-called humor. In this series however, the humor was fine and not overdone.
Ófærð (2015)
A phenomenal opening sequence, good acting, scenery and music but plot could be better
I enjoyed watching both seasons. The acting was good as well as the scenery. During the second season I had some difficulties remembering who's who, who is connected to whom mostly because the family names and surnames sound so foreign for people who don't speak the language. The ends of both seasons seemed a bit far fetched and there were not enough clues given during the season. I have never seen an opening sequence like the one for this series: absolutely phenomenal.
Daredevil (2015)
Extremely boring
Everything is so predictable: poor victim gets mistreated; then hero steps in, gets kicked around but in the end he prevails; hero limps off badly wounded; after five minutes he's better than before and ready for the next poor victim getting mistreated.
Clickbait (2021)
Too amateurish to waste your time
At the beginning I really liked the story. I never had to push myself to watch the next episode. But there was no urge to binchwatch due to the unconvincing acting. However, after 4 episodes it became clear that everything was so amateurish: not only the acting but also the dialogues, the plot, the decors. It is all second rate at best.
Marcella (2016)
the storyline is scattered and part of it is not understandable to me
Some good acting and that's why I finished watching the first season. I am not going to watch any further. Characters pop up and you don't have a clue what they're doing in the story. Then the face reappears some episodes later and you don't have a clue anymore what they did several episodes before. The viewer should take notes on who is related to whom and how.
Pedal the World (2015)
Interesting journey but uninspiring actor
Every year I make at least one bicycle trip. I would not know how to travel with another person on a bicycle trip. This is a part of the documentary I understand. I liked the shots of the countryside and people in the cities. I watched this documentary till the end despite the numerous shots with the camera pointing at the maker himself while he's turning around. But what I disliked the most is his self-pity. He has the luxury to basically go on a one year vacation, feeding himself, flying from one continent to the other and yet he has so much time to feel sorry about himself. He's extremely egocentric.
My Octopus Teacher (2020)
Interesting but a bit melodramatic
Yes, it was an interesting documentary, shot in this one place somewhere in the celp forest at the southern tip of Africa. There where some beautiful shots. But it gets melodramatic. I have no idea how this researcher treats other human beings. But I have some problems with people who are so moved by animals and at the same time treat other people like an animal.
The Liberator (2020)
Boring
I did not like the graphic novel style. It does not fit a war movie or any movie for that matter: there is no communication via facial expressions, no grand beautiful vistas, no beautiful intimate details. I managed to watch one episode.
The Two Popes (2019)
Two strong (almost) historical figures played by two great actors
What a movie: it's almost one long dialogue interspersed by images of one or two old guys walking around. Two old guys each set in their own ways and yet they listen to each other and you have to watch the movie to see what happens. Good stuff. Loved it. It's funny too.
Unorthodox (2020)
Strong, on all accounts.
So strong, so well acted, so believable that the second song in the last episode brought tears my eyes. Shira Haas is so frail but man, there's one hell of a woman emanating from her. Yes it is a story of an escape from an orthodox community but Netflix did not aspire to attack this community. No, the community was left intact. So, hats off. The other actors are also excellent.
The Punisher (2017)
Boring
The Punisher resembles Shooter: ex-military man gets beaten up, shot by bulletts and arrows. The he limps during five minutes. Then he climbs walls, jumps fences etc. Oh yes, there is an obligatory (almost) faithfull wife who suffers also. Poor dialogues, poor acting.
Fury (2014)
Good actors desperately trying to turn silly dialogues and stupid script into a good movie
What do you get when you pile up one cliché on top of the other?: not a good movie.
Bron/Broen (2011)
excellent acting and the same boring story line for every season
I fell in love with Saga Norén, a Swedish female police inspector with Asperger. All of the main actors of this series do a great job. However, the story line is always the same: one or more bodies are discovered and every episode is a side story in the investigation that leads to nothing except of course the last episode.
Peaky Blinders (2013)
It's allright but they got the seasons wrong
I like Peaky Blinders. The story and dialogues are allright and the acting is good. But why do trees carry leaves during winter? Is there a micro climate in Birmingham? There are some intriguing characters (with matching actors) walking around in this series!
Shooter (2016)
second rate everything
Second rate story line, second rate dialogue, second rate acting, second rate filming. American hero (do you hear the trumpets and horns in the bakcground?) is being set up by bad guys. Of course the American Hero has the perfect family: a couragous and faithful wife, and a very smart daughter. They pray for each meal. And in every episode the American hero gets shot, stabbed and beaten up at least twice. He limps and moans during five minutes but then somehow the pain is gone. Jawn.
Dark (2017)
below average
Too many similar characters to keep track of which makes it difficult to follow the story. Many of these characters appear in the past as current. Some of the acting really feels like acting and some scenes have no added value at all. These scenes keep on sitting in your head because you expect that later on they will get some meaning. It is an annoying show to watch.
I Am Legend (2007)
shallow
This is a shallow movie.
It has a shallow plot. The story is so predictable because it is so shallow.
It has no character development.
The dialogue is stupid and so shallow that I almost started crying.
There's absolutely no message. What has Bob Marley to do with this movie? Maybe his shallow 'oh-poor-me-the-victim' music? Of course the stupid scientist who caused the extinction of humanity could not have been American. It surprised me that shallow Hollywood didn't show the European scientist arriving at the interview in a Mercedes or BMW. Apparently Ford paid heavily to drive the heroes around in its cars.
Narcos (2015)
outstanding acting
This is a stunning series. It's about a monster, Pablo Escobar, who still remains a human. The acting is great. Few European or American actors/movies reach this level. Who needs pretentious Nice or superficial Hollywood anymore? If only the Escobar character could pull less at his pants:-).
This is probably the strongest anti-drugs message I've ever seen. It takes six dead people to make one kilo of cocaïne! This is a true hard look at a small part of our world no other medium has covered in such revealing and capturing depth before.
Please, give us some more similar acting.
Thanks.
