Men in Black: International (2019)
The ship set sail but didn't make it out of the harbour.
Have enjoyed the franchise to date, however given the total replacement of cast from the original movies was prepared to give this version ago.
Unable to find many savings graces for this movie.
Poor storyline with very substandard acting, everything was predictable and comedy themes missed there marks.
The dry humour between Smith and Jones sadly missing.
One to many movies for this franchise, don't waste you time on this substandard product.
Hard to write 600 words on such a bad product as I lost interest after 30 minutes and sat through the rest of the movie hoping for an improvement or the final credits to role.
Mamma Mia! (2008)
An hour and an half I won't get back.
Let's start with the good points.
Nil.
Now for the reasons not to watch.
Poorly chosen cast - in a musical would like actors with the ability to sing and dance. May be worth going back and see some of the older musicals to see why they worked.
Story line - virtually does not exist and if there was one probably written by a preschooler.
If you like Abba Music then don't watch - virtually all songs destroyed by the inability of the cast to sing in tune.
Still unsure why the women have to squeal throughout the movie, maybe they saw the so call script.
Still unsure whether it was a comedy, musical or poorly scripted pile of tripe.
Should be in the top 10 of worst movies ever made.
Home and Away (1988)
Mindless rubbish, written by the script writers from Love Island. Strewth what a mob of Galahs.
Originally aired in 1988 with an acceptable storyline's based around a seaside community.
Has now descended into poorly written scripts, matched by vertically challenged actors, show should have been axed many years ago. Unbelievable storyline's and suspense and drama of a dead fish.
We can only hope a mad bomber arrives in Summer Bay and blowup the Surf club with all the cast in the building. Forgot that how we finished no 96.
I sure the show will survive as the level of intelligence required can be matched by the viewing public who think it should win a Logie.
Black or White (2014)
Not Black or White but worth a view
Good casting with Coster and Spencer, storyline acceptable however seems unbelievable in real life. A successful black family with 6 profitable businesses living across the road from a crack house. A lot of successful siblings and one bad apple in Reggie and very few adult figures in the family not sure what happened to them.
Tried to over gloss the black and white side of life and simplify the world, great in a movie but a little to much in fairyland.
Eloise seems one dimensional and lack emotion even with the death of her grandmother in a road accident. Amazed Coster character had the ability to walk rather then have a rational discussion with the booze he drank. Spencer's role seemed to date back to her performance from Help as the down trodden and needs to fight for her self worth.
Not a great movie and not a bad movie, just a well made movie to fill the void between Black or White in movie land. If only this could be achieved in real life.
Oversight, love the female black judge in the custody case, player a good role and interaction with Spencer worth the viewing.
What Is Life Worth (2020)
It is worth watching, sorry for the pun.
The theme of the movie is based on what a life is worth and how to come to a real value. After 9/11 this is highlighted by a formula approach to reach a value. Accountant/lawyer against real life situations to satisfy the masses and cross sections of the communities involved.
It soon becomes apparent that the formula system will not work and a revised approach required, the high value clients want the bigger slice of the pie and their lawyers are happy if this is achieved even if the lower workers don't receive a fair share. Storyline has been heightened for a better impact on screen.
Over all a solid movie with a good cast and acceptable direction.
RFDS (2021)
Home and away takes to the air.
Another Australian made mind numbing series of highly unbelievable storyline, intermingled with romance and a completely unbelievable events that hit the personnel at the base.
Home and away fans will love it as no intelligence required and actual events attached to reality not required. Can't wait for the developing plot when the Bra Boys from the bay Storm the base to seek revenge against Peakcock after they learn he has moved to Broken hill.
Complete waste of time and money, poor acting, poor direction and soapy melodrama at its worst.
True Grit (2010)
Better than John Wayne's Rooster.
Quality team brings True Grit to life with a more gritty presentation of the story line. Jeff Bridges is brilliant as Rooster and Matt Damon provides one of his best performances. Mattie is well presented as the 14 year old daughter seeking revenge for her fathers death and all the baddies play they roles well.
Coen brothers again bring their best work and deliver a truely enjoyable movie.
I Am Mother (2019)
If I hear the word Mother Again I will scream.
Total waste of 2 hrs.
Total twaddle, poor storyline, poor acting, lack of direction.
Still have no idea what the movie was trying to achieve.
Unfortunately another Netflix's flop.
The Remains of the Day (1993)
A rare gem based on pre war 1930s England.
Superb cast covered an interesting period in England history covering pre war loyalties and alignments with nazi Germany. Brilliant performances by Anthony Hopkins as Mr Steven's and Emma Thompson as Miss Kenton. Well presented storyline with the varying views towards Germany or the Americans support in pre war Europe.
Enjoyed the performance of James Fox as Lord Darlington and Christopher Reeves as Lewis and a cameo appearance of Hugh Grant in a developing role.
A close looking at the class system in England.
Full recommend this movie.
Just Cause (1995)
Better than a TV movie but no academy awards here
Good thriller with what appears to be a corrupt police system and good winning over evil in the end.
Solid performances from the main cast, some overacting at times and the final outcome almost assured.
Enjoyed Ed Harris in his role. The movie does wander at the end with no real direction and the outcome for the good guys to win.
A couple of late twists which were pretty predictable but all in all an acceptable experience.
50 First Dates (2004)
Surprisingly good movie.
Sat down with a groan when the wife put this on, however after a while it grew on me.
Good cast, effective storyline, solid music score and a real feel good movie.
Rate it up there with "My Big Fat Greek Wedding", able to watch both movies on a regular basis and enjoy every minute of both.
Sit back, relax and enjoy.
2067 (2020)
Reaches no great heights
Australia has made some good movies, however this is not one of them.
Low budget, Poor storyline, no name cast and lack of direction.
Do not waste your time on this one.
Last Breath (2019)
Good new story - well constructed and presented documentary.
Pretty sure this would have been a run of the mill documentary on sat diving which would have not seen the light of day.
However with the misadventure of the dive team, it became a life or death story which was well presented to cover the human element against a professional background.
Well done from start to finish.
Still puzzled by the low review ratings from a few.
The OA (2016)
Why Netflix's, why.
If your not brain dead when your start to watch, then you will be brain dead by the end.
No savings graces and a complete waste of my time.
And for the good points, .........
The Physician (2013)
A good yarn but noting to be with history.
A good yarn with Robert Cole.surviving disaster in the nick of time, beautiful shot with a total fabrication with history. Ben Kingsley a good character act preforms solidly and the remain cast filled the gaps.
Not a classic however a good romp.
The Replacements (2000)
Not a gem but not a stinker
If you love sports movie this is watchable although totally unbelievable story lines. One week ex players next week NFL all stars, has nothing to do with the real world.
Good movie to fill in time and walk away with a smile.
Not Hackmans or Reeves best work.
Law Abiding Citizen (2009)
Would have been 10 if they had a different ending
Better movie than expected, still trying to work out the bad guy as I was with Clyde the law abiding citizen and cheering for him. Really want him to survive as he hit a raw nerve that justice is blind and favours the criminal element. Apart from the that was a riveting movie with tons of actions and a solid storyline.
Das Boot (1981)
Epic War Movie
Well written, well acted and well directed. 3hr 30 minutes of reality about a German uboat in WW II, covers the hardship, fear, raw courage of the crew of the submarine and the over all futility of war. Very biting at times about mans inhumanity to man. One of the best movies I have seen this year.
A realistic war drama, with the human element of a crew well covered.
The Express (2008)
Good true life sports movie loosely based on facts.
Enjoyable sports movie with enhanced facts to better lift the audience. However what's sports story isn't written in fiction.
Great college player who never played an NFL game before dying at a very young age. All senses are covered and you leave the movie feeling a better person.
Arrival (2016)
Terrible, terrible and terrible
One of the worst movies I have watched this year. Sat there waiting for the story line to develop and still waiting. Sounded like a pod of whales swimming through the ocean. Flash back or flash forwards got annoying. The dark shadowing of nearly all the scenes did get annoying. Total waste of my time and money.
My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002)
A quaint idea that hits the mark
Low expectations, no name cast and a less than impressive story line with a very limited budget. However you do get gems from low budget movies and this is a it and when you are down and out can lift the spirits. Quirky idea that Greeks only marry Greeks and then Toula meets Ian and the adventure or chaos begins. Everything just gels, old fashion Greek Father, well balanced Greek mother who keeps all the ships floating. No surprises, no hidden agendas just a feel good movie.
Everyone plays their part well and a feel good movie for a rainy day.
Meet Joe Black (1998)
Truly inspiring movie, totally enchanting and a must watch movie
Well casted, well writing and truly surprising movie. Had very little expectations for this movie as originally saw it as a teen flick, however a young Brad Pitts innocent in playing death and Anthony Hopkins role as the dying 65 head of corporate business and the interwoven storyline's soon had me hooked. Beautiful music score and ending sealed the deal. A movie you can sit back and enjoy on a regular basis.
A Dog's Journey (2019)
A bit of a surprise package
Had no great expectations for the movie, thought it would be another animal film. However as the film evolved got more and more involved with the plot and ensuring characters. Just sit back and enjoy a rag to riches emotive storyline.
Father Goose (1964)
Light heated war comedy.
One of Cary Grants last movies, light heart comedy set in the early days of World War 2. Easy watching with good performances from Leslie Caron and Trevor Howard. Cary Grants character Walter Eckland is quite likeable and a reasonable story line is built around him. Story line has some far fetched moments however this can be forgiven as it is not aimed as being a true rendition of the period. If you are looking for an easy going comedy this will fit the bill. Veg out and don't think to hard and you will enjoy the movie.
