Penny Dreadful (2014)
What was that??!
Gothic, vampires, supernatural, all of my favourite elements are in this tv show. I was very excited when i found this film, watched it eagerly but then got really disappointed. It started off well, but then it led to nowhere. Like the writer had some interesting idea at first, but then lost in the middle of nowhere. The story wandered and scattered aimlessly, losing its first destination. From the very beginning, i was waiting for something to happen, the climax of the story, but NOTHING REALLY HAPPENED! When the first season ended, i thought, maybe the second season would be interesting and had something to do, but nope, i was wrong. Then season after season ended, until the last season, nope. Nothing happened at all. I've wasted my time and my energy to watch this series. I give it 5 stars because i like the actors and actress, their acting was top notch, and i like the cinematography.
Talk to Me (2022)
Good horror movie!
Wow, wow, wow! As expected from A24 studio! This movie has been on my watchlist since they announced about their new horror movie, and i am so happy they delivered the movie so well!
The idea is original, the storyline is good (a tiny bit cliche here and there, but understandable), the acting is top notch considering i have never seen the actors before and but they are impressive!
This is the exact definition of teenagers being teenagers with scary consequences.
Overall, the movie is very enjoyable, good drama, good make up, good effect, and good music. Highly recommended, something scary that you can enjoy without being stressful during and after the show.
The Pope's Exorcist (2023)
Nothing new here
I've been waiting for this movie to release since i saw the first trailer in every social media and the hype people talk so highly about this movie. I am not disappointed, the movie is quite enjoyable, the acting is great and solid, the effect, the cinematography is good, the make up is top notch. Although there's some cringe jokes they try to make it less serious, i still enjoy it. But the storyline, is just the same like the other exorcist movies. Nothing different. Always the kid, then the exorcist's "sin" background, then leads to find out the name of the demon, then after some fighting and sacrifice, the good always dramatically wins.
The Terminal List (2022)
Just another action series, nothing new here
Well, what should i expect? Of course it has some good action and drama here and there, but that's it. It is not remarkable. The storyline is just too common for an action tv show, with the same facial expression from Chris Pratt -like in his other movies. I know he is a great actor, but it doesnt help this series to be that interesting. It is recommended to binge on the weekend when you have a rough busy weekdays prior, and you just want to spend your weekend to relax and be lazy, because after you finish the show, it's forgettable. But it is quite good to kill the time. I couldn't even remember whether i have watched this series or not, until i watch the trailer. Then i was like, "oh yeah, this show".
Dýrið (2021)
Crazy brilliant idea
This is one of the most recommended movie for those who like psychological unique thriller. This movie is amazing. Crazy idea, yet brilliant, and at some point, it is disturbing. It keeps blowing my mind everytime i see the picture of this movie passing in my socmed timeline. The ending is unforgettable, i mean like, they deserved it. I realized that this movie is not for everyone, but give it a chance and try to see from others perspective. Also, it is a bit a slow pace, it's drama after all and do not expect for stupid jump scare or anything, just enjoy the scenery and the story. Anyway, the father is badass, and you know what i mean.
Pyewacket (2017)
My hope is too high
Reading a lot of good review of this movie, made my hope went high. Took a time to give it a chance, now i regret my decision. I was hoping a lot of thrill and chill scene, regarding the sighting of the "Pyewacket" but it was only two scenes and just look like a shadow, and the other scene, just like other ghost in other horror movies. I cant say the script was lazy, but a lot of dialog was repeated. But i must say, the acting is quite enjoyable. The story was actually quite promising, the execution is not bad, but it can be explore more and need more jump scare. Remind you, the main character, since she was just a teenager, she's kind a stupid.
Clueless (1995)
This movie gives me a headache.
Overrated. And please stop that stupid exaggerated mouth-acting. Almost everyone in this movie doing it, makes me want to punch the screen. It is a complete mess. The plot gets me nowhere, the acting is so bad -except for Paul Rudd- and they try to make the fashion to be iconic but the taste is just so bad. I remember my friend told me this is one of her fave movie, so i watched it when i had a long haul flight. I thought i was gonna enjoy it, but i was so wrong. It made my long haul flight even more miserable. Not gonna recommend this movie to anyone, unless they really need to release their anger and want to destroy things.
Run Hide Fight (2020)
Lets make a Die-Hard movie at school
Sooooo cliché! Huge plot holes, not so original story, bad writing.. the acting is fine not so great but okay.. dont believe the good 5-stars reviews from 11 months ago :))
Force of Nature (2020)
Bad-bad-bad writing
It was so bad, not good at all LOL
Well, to be fair, i gave it 3 stars because for the first 5 minutes, it was quite good and intense, but then it was like running down the hill, head first. Waste of talents.
Fear PHarm (2020)
A good fun!
It's a really great B movie!! Although it is low budget, the story is a bit cliche, but it is really well executed! The writer knows what s/he's doing, a lot of funny script, the story know where its going, and the gore scenes is not overexecuted. Its a good fun, give it a try!
Saint Maud (2019)
Not my kind of fave movie
Well, i was eager to watch this movie because of the high reviews.. but then i found myself disappointed. The trailer seems promising, but the movie is not that good. It doesnt have the strong story. I gave 6 stars because some of the scenes have its moment, and the ending is quite shocking. At some point, it is quite interesting movie, but the story is not really compelling. Its a bit boring and slow pace, no jump scare at all, and like any other movie about mental health, we'll see the reality as how her mind portrays it and not the actual reality. You can give it a try, but i dont want to watch it anymore.
Mayhem (2017)
Fun and entertaining!
Love this movie! it's so intense and yet so funny dark comedy! for some parts, it's a mock and sarcasm for society. it describes how all the people may behave if there is no rule at all. you can be rude, you can be violent, without any punishment for what you have done, because you can always blame someone else (or in this case, something else, like the virus). will you be good, or will you be evil?
if you just want to enjoy the movie night with some friends or binge watch with your partner, this is a good choice. the script is great, and it's really a fun ride to watch this movie. definitely a recommendation!
Enemy (2013)
i don't know what to say
Maybe i am just dumb and other people are brilliantly genius. But i can't enjoy the movie at all. I keep thinking that it doesn't make sense to me. The movie creates some unnecessary drama that isn't supposed to be there in the first place. And i stop watching when the wife of the actor meets the teacher alone in his university, and then being sad about it. I mean, me, personally, if a stranger calls me and tells me that we look alike twins, and asks to meet, i'd probably will bring my partner and my friend with me to prove that we're really look alike, instead of being sad and doubtful to my spouse. It's just unbelievable.
Servant (2019)
The key is in the last episode
Wow, i didn't see that coming! I LOOOOOVE THIS SERIES! It's dark, it's confusing, it's mysterious, and it's heartbreaking, but also there's a lot of humor in the script that is not cliche. But i really like they put the terror and horror in the right place, so it's not too much but also not too little. It's just right. In the very first episode, we'll keep guessing, who is this servant, whether she is good or not. But the key is in the last episode.
Boarding School (2018)
Mediocre horror flick
It's not great, but it's not bad either. I still can enjoy it because the acting of the actors are great. But the story is predictable and nothing new here. It's suitable for moment when you want to relax and watch horror after a long hours of work but you don't want to distress your mind, and after the movie finishes you go to sleep right away without having nightmare.
Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw (2019)
quite enjoyable
Full-packed action movie!
The story line is predictable, but not a cheesy one and it's enjoyable. The action scenes is awesome!
Tbh, i dont really like the Fast & Furious movies (except for the first and the second one), but this spin-off is worth trying. Although some of the funny scenes are predictable, but it still make you laugh. It's suitable for a Saturday night movie if you with pizza and friends!
Do-ga-ni (2011)
Recommended in every way!
You can not not to cry when watching this movie.
What can be worse than harassment and violence to the orphaned and disabled-children done by the teachers and the principal of their own school? As far as i know, teachers are their parents at school, to teach, lead, guide and protect them. But these people even worse and disgusting than a pile of shyt.
Yes, the movie is based on a novel, but the novel itself is based on true story that happened in Gwangju Inhwa School in South Korea in early 2000s, which makes this movie is more heartbreaking. All the horrible things in this movie did happen, probably worse, and only the tip of the iceberg for what happens in the real world.
As for the review of the movie, it is a bit slow at the beginning. A lot of silence moments, but that's usual in a drama movie, right?
But the story is gripping and well-written, the acting is convincing and captivating, i even find it uncomfortable seeing the child actors to play such harrowing graphic scenes that makes me worried about the children's mental health.
The lead male character, named In-ho, makes me a bit upset because he's being so passive (and stupid!), even when he sees his coworker beats a child terribly. Probably to bond the viewer's emotion, to make the viewer upset and finally feel the satisfaction of releasing rage when In-ho hits one of the molester and sues them. And there is where the real struggle begins.
There are some missing plots, but probably cut because the movie will be very long if it isn't, but don't worry, it will be explained in the end.
The movie contains a lot of shocking scenes that shiver me to the spine and breaks me to tears.
The sad truth is the world is full with corrupted law enforcers, and this movie describes it very clearly that justice only happened for rich people, and we live in a cruel and filth world like that.
Ghostland (2018)
Surprisingly, i like the movie, a lot!
The movie probably begins like the usual teenage horror movie, but no it is apparently not. I do enjoy the movie very much. The plot doesn't seems like cheesy slasher story, and it is way beyond predictable. We'll keep guessing for what is actually happened, but our guess will always wrong.
The title might be misleading, because it is not about ghost at all, but it has a lot of nuance to make it look like a ghost movie. The jump scares don't scare me much, but there are a lot of times where i feel emotionally frightened. The story is well-built, one puzzle leads to another, a lot of twists, and the violence become more and more intense and the ending is an anti-climax that i almost scream.
Definitely recommended!
The Nun (2018)
Hollywood has lost its taste
The Nun, a supposed-to-be spectacular spin-off prequel from the Conjuring universe, but failed miserably.
The movie lost its identity. I don't really know what's the genre. Yes it contains ghost or devil or evil spirit, yes the ambiance is dark, yes it involves priest and church, but what is it really? As far as i know, a spirit or a devil or a ghost is nebulous, so it won't affect anything when you shoot or stab them. But, here, you can shoot it to death. I mean, a ghost - who already a dead form of a living - would be dead. A dead who die. And the form of the ghost or the spirit is more like zombies or monster, who had a solid form where you can touch and stab them, again, to death.
The genre perhaps horror, but although it tried to deliver the thrilling nuance with a lot of jump scare, but it wouldn't be a scary surprise anymore if you meet "the nun" in every corner you take, and the jump scare is too much. So yeah, it fails to be horror. The movie is not scary at all. Not even once. The plot is cheesy, try to give a riddle and a little twist but it's easily predicted. The scenario is cheesy, you'd know what's gonna be the joke.
This is a disappointment, with such a hype from the Conjuring universe, especially with all the positive review about spooky Valak from Conjuring 2. This Nun is supposed to be scarier and more evil, but it's more like a children's toy.
I only give the 3 stars because i like the scenery.
Searching (2018)
Worth the hype!
Searching is one of the movie which gets so much praise from the viewer, and i must admit i was the one who watched this movie because of the good hype.
Even with the mystery and thriller genre, but the movie is a great family movie, or a movie about family, or a movie you must watch with your family. Yes it is thriller, but it is indeed a story about family, like Taken (a father who is looking for his missing daughter), but without the action fighting scene and rescue hero. The sad beginning with heartwarming ending, that will bond you up with your parents. A little bit twist, unpredictable, but heartwarming.
The story is gripping, the tension is gradually built, the acting is captivating. John Cho really nailed it.
Watch the movie and you won't regret it. Definitely one of the best tech movie i have ever seen!
Mientras duermes (2011)
Worth watching
This is actually a predictable movie, but the ending is not like what i expected to be. I think it was good, but it can be better?
The story kinda reminds me of The Resident (2011), with almost all the same story, except the ending that is very different. The story about the pervert guy who owns or guards an apartment, and he abuses the priviledge of the possession of the keys. The difference is that The Resident has a secret passage to go to the all rooms, to sneak and to enter the room secretly.
While here, since he is not the owner of the building and merely the concierge, so he uses the usual way to get in: the front door. Kinda stupid, because he is easily busted, and he is, by the next door girl of the guest. But yes, that is where the thrilling lies. We're gonna hate the pervert guy, but we don't want him to be caught. Kinda irony.
I give the score 7/10 because the acting is very good, eventhough i don't like the story. But the movie is worth watching.
The Blair Witch Project (1999)
The promising movie but is ruined by the voice of the lead female role
What's is wrong with the lead female role?? She's so annoying. Her voice is so disturbing from the beginning till the end of the movie.
Tbh, I actually like the movie, the fresh concept of the documentary-like, the story, the suspense, the tense that is created by the satanic ritual. It is actually a good movie and i am sure i can actually enjoy it if the lead female role is not so annoying. Her bossy character, her whining high-pitched voice is really annoying. And all the bad things happened to them is because of her. Really, if you have a friend with her character, you should consider to cut her off from your friend list.
We Need to Talk About Kevin (2011)
I love the movie but a big plot hole there..
Well, i do love the movie, but not a kind of movie i will watch twice.
The movie was captivating. The acting, the cinematography, the ambience, all is packed in a great way. Even the plot-jumping will not confuse the audience. But i give the score 7 stars out of 10 because the climax is not climax.
The story is about a mother, Eva, who has no bond with her son, Kevin, but it's not written why. From the first time Kevin were born, Eva seems stressful. Perhaps she's not ready, or she just doesn't know how to handle baby because she was not expecting him. But we can't say that Eva hates him instead Kevin does. In fact, as the time goes, all we know that Eva keeps trying to love her son, but Kevin hates her still. It is obvious from the way Kevin looks at her, his behaviour is always against her, his manipulating act in front of his father, and he doesn't want his mother happy.
One time when Eva tried to teach and play with Kevin, Kevin did something that made Eva lost her patience, and threw Kevin against the wall and broke his arm. Instead of crying, Kevin just looked Eva in hateful. But Kevin kept his revenge plan only for himself, telling it was his fault that broke his arm to the doctor and to his father. But later, he used the scar to threaten his mother.
Eva knows something is wrong with Kevin, but everytime Eva tries to talk to her husband, he keeps thinking Eva is exaggerating.
When Kevin's sister, Celia, is born and she is the reason for Eva to be happy, Kevin starts to show some violence act, like killing Celia's pet and injuring Celia's eye.
This one scene is the first point i feel disappointed. A big hole when they didn't show what happened to Celia's eye, the scene jumped into a time where Eva and her husband sit in a hospital outside Celia's room without telling what has happened. Only after they're having dinner with Kevin and Eva confronts him that Eva will lose her eye because he didn't look after her. If we do not read the book, or the reference, we would not know that it is apparently Kevin poured some cleaner to Celia's eye.
The story keeps growing about how Eva and Kevin's relationship as mother and son is not going well, even when Eva keeps trying to have a bond with her son by having a quality time together. But Kevin keeps ruining it. He did all what he had done only to resent his mother.
And then when Kevin finally commit the massacre of his school friend, which is supposed to be the climax, i just got more disappointed. Not only they didn't show the massacre -only the bodies after- but a big plot hole here. How on earth did Kevin gather all of the living victims to the hall and make them as a target for his archery skill? By sedating and dragging them? Or by inviting them? Did he tied them onto the wall? Why didn't they fight back? I mean, the victim is not only one and some of them are not helpless women/men.
I can not answer it.
And that big plot hole ruins a beautiful and brilliant-themed movie that makes me decide to give only 7 score.
Green Room (2015)
One word : brilliant!
It took quite a while for me to finish the movie. Not because it was boring, but because it was full tension, and the tense felt real.
It had me shocked when the first encounter happened and it left me traumatized. I had to pause it a while, to regain my breath and consciousness, because it made me feel a bit dizzy. I usually don't bother with gore scene, with blood everywhere, or internal organs being pulled out, or chopping head, but it just this time feels so real.
Tell me everything, the acting was so great. Everyone was on its portion, not too much and not less. The panic, the fear, the confusion was delivered very well. You can cry for them.
The story was not too much made up, not a crap literally, seemed making sense as well.
The movie was violent and brutal, but not a kind of slasher one.
I like the ending where they were not wasting time killing those bad guys. I mean, a movie usually took a very long time conversation before killing somebody, until something bad happened and turned the situation upside down. I hate that cliche.
If you're looking for a decent thriller movie, this definitely should be on your number one list.
Never thought i'm gonna rate this movie a perfect score.
Under the Shadow (2016)
Drama with forced horror scene but failed
No plot, lack of script, not scary at all.
I didn't even realized where it all began, then suddenly there appeared the ghost, a vengeful one. No cause, no motive.
The lead role was very annoying, reckless and stubborn. Well, if she was meant to be it, then it was a good acting. Because you'll realize all the troubles and problems occurred because she was being so selfish and self-centered.
As the story, it lead to nowhere. Like i said before, it had no plot. Well, the conflict between the lead role and another character was forced, it was actually no conflict at all, but since she's an annoying person so she had to be the person who was always correct and "the victim".
The story went slow with some unnecessary scene, it seemed to be put there only to add the length of the movie. It's a boring drama that put a failed-horror flick to gain rating.
No need to add this to your watch-list.
