Samson (2018)
I wish Christians would stop propping up garbage...
What can I say, period movies are probably the hardest genre to attempt if you want to do it correctly. Historical accuracy is always tricky and authentic set design is expensive. They didn't have the budget or experience yet threw it out there for a cash grab. It's a pretty sad state of affairs but maybe this industry will grow up some day.
Malibu Dan the Family Man (2017)
Zero Laughs
It's was pretty cringy to watch scenes shot in front of a green screen poorly keyed. I rated it 2 stars out of pity.
12 Kilometers (2016)
Some non-emotional reactions...
The concept itself was fantastic, better than what is coming out of Hollywood these days. In that sense it was refreshing.
The cinematography was killer, set design and period props on point. I thought the camera movement motivation establishing the landscape in the beginning was pro level. The microscopic footage was very enjoyable.
Acting was decent. Some places a little awkward, sometimes I didn't buy the protagonist reactions to certain situations. Blocking was great so kudos to the director.
Some of the music choices were odd in the beginning at times but overall it was good throughout. Sound design was good. Editing, I'm not sure I would change anything. Pacing left me wanting more.
Some of the dialogue felt odd at times but it may be because of some lost in translation. If I spoke Russian maybe it would be stronger I don't know.
I'm always all for the mystique of a story but the motivation of the older scientist was a little underdeveloped. I get he was in the middle of research and didn't want to stop but the why...who knows. I suppose that would be left to the theatrical release when it happens! :)
Bottom line, it's worth the watch. Congrats to all involved in the project, you should be proud of this piece.
The Matrix (1999)
Great movie but...
I just pretend that this is the only movie in the franchise as the rest were complete trash. Having gotten that out of the way, this movie was groundbreaking for the sci-fi world. It took the genre to another level not previously seen.
The story was fantastic and the cinematography superb. Some VFX blunders exist but nothing one can't overlook.
