Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman: What Is Love? (1995)
What is love?- the unanswerable question...
"Love is a bunch of red brocade curtains that came all the way from Denver. Love is a pair of old boots that belonged to Ingrid's father. Love is a pebble used by your grandmother that came from a far-away place. Love is an engagement ring, saved up to be given on a special day". This was Brian's beautiful answer to the essay the Reverend had given his students for Valentine's Day. Why? Watch this episode to find out.
Dorothy is going to put up a "Romeo and Juliet" play for the town. Colleen wants to be Juliet but she convinces her best-friend Becky to audition, too. Jake continues to court Dorothy, even though we know he doesn't feel the same towards her since her operation. He gives her a dress, too. Loren, after being found snooping in it by Dorothy, tells her Jake will end up hurting her. Then, in the evening, she makes Jake tell her he truth...poor Dorothy! Meanwhile, Dr.Mike and Sully are planning a special day together. Then the results of the play come out and Becky is to play Juliet. Colleen is disappointed, but when Becky comes down with laryngitis, she gets her part. Sully has to go to a conference, and unfortunately he'll miss Valentines's day. Colleen decides to do the right thing and gives her part back to Becky, who is better. Loren, to make amends with Dorothy, buys her the brocade curtains for the stand which she so much wanted, causing her to fall in love with him.. and Sully arrives in time for the play and gives Dr.Mike her engagement ring! Between a variety of characters and their own troubles with love, this was a very nice episode...Don't miss it!!!
Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman: Cattle Drive: Part 2 (1994)
Hardships and Danger...
Part II starts with uncovering the reasons of that stampede- Jesse and the other Texan boy stole 30 heads of cattle from Matthew, plus Colleen's brooch and the money of everyone in camp. Matthew insists on going after them, but Sully doesn't want him in danger, thus causing them to fight again. After that, Matthew goes after them unnoticed by everyone except Brian. Colleen still claims Jesse couldn't have stolen the cows, because he'd said he loved her,and he even proposed to her...poor Colleen... Brian helps Matthew with the Texans and they both bring the missing cattle and everyone's Money. Colleen has her brooch back, but she's still ashamed about Jesse. Then hungry Indians came looking for food, and took a few cows. Dr.Mike helps a cow giving birth, and afterwards Sully helps her wash up. The little calve stays in Brian's care. Then, once more, Matthew goes against Sully's judgment and spooks the cows by making them run over quicksand. Dr.Mike falls down her horse and she comes close to being trampled...finally, they have to run through a prairie fire, and danger is here again. At last they reach town with the whole herd running through it. Amazing episode, everyone did good. Don't miss it! :-)
Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman: Cattle Drive: Part 1 (1994)
Cattle Drive - new challenges...
This episode has always been among my favorites- I suppose it was one of the most expensive episodes in this series, due to the in-location shooting of the show and the expenses of using all those cows...
The story begins with Dr.Mike, Sully, the children, Loren, Robert E. and Grace riding south to meet Miss Olive, who is ill, only to find out she's dead. Everyone grieves for a while, and, I can say for myself I never liked her much, but she's an interesting character. In her will, Olive leaves Matthew all her cattle, and he must bring them north to Colorado with the help of his friends. He becomes head of the drive, and he learns with his mistakes along the trail. There are a few Texans working, one of them, Jesse, is sweet on Coleen...but Dr.Mike doesn't trust him much. Then there are many adversities, and Matthew always goes against Sully's advice, hence causing more trouble. Brian is bitten by a scorpion, and after they reach water, a stampede in the herd causes more trouble... Stay tuned for Part II!
Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman: Giving Thanks (1993)
Give thanks for what you have before asking for more...
"Giving Thanks" is one of my favorite episodes in this season. The story line begins where the previous two-part episode left off-"Where the Heart is".
Dr.Mike, the children and Sully are coming back to the homestead, and they decide to start courting. They have their own doubts about having enough in common, but, meanwhile, they have news of a drought in town. Horace tries to find water with an old-fashioned stick Jake and Loren haul infected water from a pond, in spite of Cloud Dancing's warnings. People get sick and Dr.Mike has to treat them. A storm comes up, but it still doesn't rain- Dr Mike's barn catches fire and when Sully comes, it is out, but she takes out her anger on Sully, thus causing a grater rift between them. Everyone begins to wonder what do they have to be thankful for this thanksgiving, without enough food. They refuse the Indians' help with food. Hank leaves the town without letting Myra stay.
That's where the main lesson of this episode comes in: sometimes we forget to be thankful for what we have, and we only ask more of the Lord. We have so much to be thankful for...we're alive and we have people to love. With that in mind, Dr.Mike decides to make amends with Sully, and he shows her his favorite spot, where they watch the sunset together. Then the town decides to have a Thanksgiving meal with what they have, when the Indians come riding in with a food. So they all sit together, bow their heads and thank the Good Lord/Mother Nature for their bountiful feast, and Hank comes in with his girls. Horace and Myra couldn't be happier.
At last, the greatest gift of all comes: Rain. Everyone is happy with joy..never mind if the food is getting wet, Dr.Mike... It was beautiful and full of joy...This was also the first episode where Dr.Mike and Sully begin courting...season 2 is my least favorite, but it has great episodes , like this one, so check it out.
Little House: The Last Farewell (1984)
The grand finale...of the best series ever!
Did I cry? Yes. Sure I did. When everything you have loved from the first second of Little House is blown up in the air, well, you just can't help it.
But let me tell the story:
As the movie begins, we see Caroline talking on the phone with aunt Tess.(whoever she is,Aunt Tess is someone whom Charles doesn't like and is coming for a visit). Since Charles has a one-month holiday, they decide to leave the children with Aunt Tess and so they go to Walnut Grove...only they didn't know they would be there to bid their last farewell, hence the title.
On the same train there were a few rich gentleman meeting: owners of land development companies, they want to take over the towns of Hero Township. Meanwhile, the Ingalls, the Wilders, Mr.Montague and Mr.Edwards are reunited in a merry family gathering when John Carter comes in and asks for someone to watch over the house while he's away with Sarah. Charles and Caroline readily agree to stay there...just like the old times, remember?
That Sunday in church, Lassiter has the pleasure to announce that Walnut Grove was his, but don't worry, gentle citizens, you can stay and work for him as salaried employees...INDEED! Then there's talk of confront, Caroline and Laura deeply worried because their husbands will do anything for their lands. Lassiter and Almanzo have a confront, but he's okay. That Friday, the town makes a move, but Lassiter has the United States cavalry ready, so he gives an ultimatum: they have to leave Walnut Grove on Sunday.
Laura is so angry, she smashes the windows of the house and a couple of dishes. At the meeting in town, the reverend prays for all those who will be touched by this sorrow..Edwards is still angry, but Laura gets up and, grand lady she is, she says to give them what for, and leave them a Walnut Grove buried in chaos..John Carter has a load of dynamite they can use...And so, next day, one by one, the buildings are blown up: first the boarding house, then Nellie's restaurant, the Oleoson store, the post-office, the mill... As each one of them was being shattered to pieces, I was crying and wailing "NO"...
Lassiter arrives and immediately orders the cavalry to arrest the citizens, but they have done nothing wrong according to the law. So everyone marches away, singing "Onward Christian Soldiers", and..it's over. Little House on the Prairie is over...
Some may say that Michael Landon wrote this in anger because they had canceled his show, but, it's a very good ending. If Little House had ended happily, perhaps we would have forgotten it..this way, we learn to appreciate all of the nine seasons, because Walnut Grove was destroyed, there's no more Little House on The Prairie.
Regardless to say, everyone was great: Melissa Gilbert was wonderful, Richard Bull was very convincing, and it was incredible. Don't miss this!!!!
Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman: Happily Ever After (1998)
Happilly ever after...
In this Dr.Quinn episode, we see the solutions to many love stories in this series...Jake and Teresa's ,Dorothy and Cloud Dancing's. In the beginning Jake officially announces his engagement to Teresa Morales. But then Hank spoils it by driving Cloud Dancing prisoner through town. Then, while Dr.Mike,Sully,Daniel, Matthew and Dorothy are trying to find a way to save Cloud Dancing from going to East Fork Reservation, Teresa's aunt and cousin arrive. Her aunt is a very aggravating woman, who doesn't approve of Jake. And it seems that the only way to keep Cloud Dancing nearby is to have a protected status, which is voted upon by the town council. Meanwhile, Jake begins agreeing to do a lot of things for Teresa's sake. He promises to go with her to the Catholic church in Denver, even vote against Cloud Dancing staying in town, which causes him to be sent to East Fork reservation. Then Jake has an altercation with Teresa's aunt and decides to cal the wedding off. Dr.Mike then gives her a piece of her mind, that saves the wedding and changes the vote in regards to Cloud Dancing. And so, everything ends happily...for ever after, WE hope.
Little House on the Prairie (1974)
My Little House experience...and how it changed my life!!!
It all began on the last day of my sixth grade. My father gave me the 1st season of Little House on the Prairie, and after I watched the 1st episode "A Crop of Friends", I just couldn't stop...Afterwards more seasons came along...a year after that I owned all the Little House Books, next Christmas I owned Highway to Heaven, which is also a good Michael Landon production, though not as good as THIS! I grew up from a sulky teenager to a happy girl! Along its nine seasons, Little house aborded several themes, like slavery, family issues, friendship, gold fever, risky jobs, deadly diseases..on the whole, after watching this you find yourself an altogether different person, also a better one who tries to make the world a better place. Trough the Ingalls and their little house in Walnut Grove, you'll fall in love with their beautiful family, learn to hate the Oleoson womenfolk, and meet a whole bunch of real, funny, witty, sarcastic, aggravating people. Once you see this, you can never Forget it. This Christmas I'll finish these series, and I know I'll die and cry at the same time.To me this is still a wonderful series after many years. Good for any age, too. I read that Michael Landon had wanted this to be a series to watch in family...To me that was right. From all these compliments,I think that by now, you know I LOVE THIS!!!
Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman: Life in the Balance (1998)
A balance...and a Chinese woman doctor...
Again we see D.Quinn standing up for her beliefs and ideals, as a group of Chinese settles in the town. It's not my favorite episode, but it is a good one, though. Hank doesn't want them around, anymore than some people in the town do. He tries to set the Chinese camp on fire, but Daniel puts a stop to it before it's too late. At the same time, Dr.Quinn meets Jean Yang and her grandfather, who is also a doctor. They have a few cases of malaria in camp, and Dr.Quinn helps them out. We also see some Cantonese traditions and we learn more about their culture. We see them celabrating new year, the tradition of binding women's feet to make them beautiful, and their restrictions. I found these quite shocking...they don't show them, of course, but talking about them is enough to make anyone susceptible...Highly impressive, I'd say. In the end we see Jean Yang's true identity, as she reveals herself...Watch to find out! Hank really does set a fire on the camp, and he goes to Denver to stand trial. What I missed in this episode was Dorothy...I have a faint idea she would fit in the plot rather well. ENJOY THESE SERIES!
Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman: A Place Called Home (1997)
Anthony's Death...
To me, this was one of the best episodes ever in Dr.Quinn , Medicine Woman. Mrs. Teresa asks her students to write compositions about their favorite thing about Colorado Springs. Soon afterwards Anthony has a pain attack. Grace pretends that he is going to be alright, but Dr.Mike knows better. She believes his condition will get worse until he finally dies. Anthony feels that something is going on, and when he tries to ask Grace about it, she won't tell him. And then when Anthony is in one of the clinic's rooms, Grace and Robert E tell him all about it, in a conversation that brings tears to your eyes. And then , in the clinic's balcony, we see Anthony and Brian's friendship, in a farewell speech that will set anyone shedding galoons... And then, while Anthony reads his remarkable composition-"A Place Called Home", his funeral passes on the screen. OH,this is an episode you just HAVE to watch.
Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman: Seeds of Doubt (1998)
A choice for Coleen...Andrew or Prince Charming?
We have been watching how Coleen and Andrew look, and talk. We hAve seen them kiss in "Moment of True"...But do they love each other? Watch this to find out. A handsome young man from Denver, Mr.Patrick Collins,in fact, comes to call on Coleen for a picnic, then he invites her and her family to have tea with him at the Château. Dr. Mike thinks this a bit too forward, but she goes just the same. When Andrew sees this, he quickly understands he can't take Coleen for granted. At the same time, Sully and Brian are conducting a survey with a congressman and his son. This boy makes good friends with Brian, specially since Brian helps Oliver with his injuries. As for the conceited Patrick, Coleen soon finds out he's not what he appears to be, for he forces Collen to kiss him. Then Andrew and Patrick have a fight at the Château. Afterwads Coleen helps him take care of his bruises, and they tell each other of their love and kiss. ENJOY THIS!
Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman: Seven Kinds of Lonely (1998)
Loneliness and friendship...
I enjoyed viewing this episode...but, then, I enjoy every episode of these amazing series! :-) Dr.Mike is surprised to see that her Loren is having sales at very unprofitable prices to himself. Moreover, she overhears Loren talking to Preston about selling his store... And then its a rush of trying to make Loren stay...first with an anonymous "Letter to the Editor", then with Brian's invitation to go fishing...Loren finally flies onto a rage when he understands! At the same time, Brian is selling tickets for the Sweetheart dance. We find out about Grace's drinking, and Mrs.Morales rising debts. And finally we hear from Grace that she wants the divorce, and Jake proposes to Mrs.Teresa Morales... Dr.Mike then tells Loren how she really feels about him, and during the dance he tells her he changed his mind...He'll just go to San Francisco for a visit, and then he'll be back. As for Mrs.Morales, she accepts Jake's proposal... In the end, this was quite an episode to play havoc with your emotions!! WATCH IT!!!
Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman: Right or Wrong (1996)
Right or Wrong - a question of one's choice or of the law?
"Right or Wrong" shows a different perspective of what one can see as the right thing to do... An Indian is captured for having run away to gather roots for his sick son...and Sully must help him out to reach the border with New Mexico. At first Dr.Mike is against it, but then she gives in...
At the same time Jake and Preston are running for mayor, but they soon discover that they need Dr.Mike's support... Wait to see competition at its best, while Brian helps Dorothy cover the election for THE GAZETTE... And then, Dr.Mike goes to jail and can't vote, Sully goes and votes(this, I think, wasn't to be expected of Sully. On the whole, it'snot a bad episode at all.
WATCH THIS!!!
