A billion stars for such a beautiful series, but negative 10 stars for that AWFUL finale
2 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Such a beautiful, passionate series. If you needed a hero (heroine), you'll find it in Cennet, the strong, virtuous, sacrificial mother. The series starts strong, and you'll find yourself cheering on the little family as they struggle for new life in the big city. But somewhere the writers got really passive, it seems, and never developed these characters nor brought about a satisfying conclusion. The conclusion is WHACK, and an utter disappointment, and I can only speculate that something personal happened to the writers and producer to bring about such an utter let-down, since it is totally unlike the start of the series in craft, detail, interest, justice, etc.). But hey, we're all human, so I am thankful for the series episodes that brought us Cennet.

Comfort flick, rather silly, very unsatisfying ending!

Warning: Spoilers
I found this film initially very comforting. I'd had a long day at work, and I found the characters likeable, relatable. But the character of the screetchy wife who was always accusing her husband. So insulting, demasculating, and outright HARSH drove me nuts. Then the one situation with the know-it-all self-righteous psychologist wife and her hubs, and how that whole scene unfolded, and that totally whack ending that had no connection whatsoever to the story line? Silly, shake-my-head silly, and unsatisfying.

VERY dark, lots of vulgar language and sexual innuendo
25 June 2022
Yes. Dementia, aging, caregiver-related stress, family skeletons/wounds, lifestyle differences are all REAL and I validate that.

But this film was like a dark pall, and the old dad SO over-the-top miserable and vulgar that anything redemptive that came was but a drip of hope in an ocean of doom. And yes, doom is real, too. I just don't need to see it with such full-frontal oomph as this film. And yes, sometimes there is NO earthly redemption in real life. I get it.

I give the son (Viggo) 5 stars for his patience with his dad. And his little daughter's love for the old guy (her grandpa) was heartwarming and okay, yes, that was redemptive. But this film may not be something you (or rather, I) might want to watch at the end of a long and hard day.

Beautiful, Jesus-honoring film!
20 December 2020
This is a beautiful film which I just caught on EWTN. It reminds us of the tender, merciful, and personal love that the Lord Jesus Christ has for each of us, and the reality that He can do ALL things. Also -- and this is the takeaway -- no matter what's happening in our lives, when we know Jesus as our Saviour, we can have PEACE, contentment, and meaning.

Darling, feel-good, redemptive movie
28 March 2020
Stumbled upon this last night, unsure how I felt about the black guy's bad attitude at the outset, but that all changed as I saw his story-behind-the-story, and how his relationship with Phillip brings out the best in both of them. Who wouldn't love this movie and these two dear guys?

Broke my heart
7 May 2017
Important commentary on the reality of the inner city. I didn't care for, and just turned off, the nasty scenes with the sexual crudities and the insulting references to some politicians. Broke my heart to see the more tender scenes of broken hearts and broken lives, because that's the reality for many dear souls. May God help them! May we help them!

Beautifully produced, moving homage to the victims of the Armenian Genocide
30 April 2017
Beautifully produced tribute of history to the victims of the Armenian genocide. I understand that this was a labor of love from the financier of the film, and I felt privileged to see it, and shared a sense of joy in his victory that the film was finally produced -- and done so lavishly and accurately. I love that the producer fit in the account of Musa Dagh, and I encourage anyone with an interest in this piece of history to dig deeper into that, as it really shares the spirit of the Armenian people. Can't recommend this film highly enough to folks of any age. Blessings and respect to all who suffered, and to all who helped them (including the makers of this fine film)!
