Enemy (2013)
6/10
Atmospheric
7 April 2024
"Enemy" delivers a gripping psychological thriller experience, thanks to Denis Villeneuve's masterful cinematography set against the gritty backdrop of Toronto. Adapted from José Saramago's novel "The Double," the film's tension builds steadily, refusing to hold the viewer's hand as it navigates themes of identity and duality. Villeneuve's camera work, tone, and color scheme contribute to the film's atmospheric quality, leaving a lasting impression long after the credits roll. While the slow burn pace may not appeal to everyone, fans of psychological thrillers will find "Enemy" a captivating and thought-provoking watch.

Love Lied Okey-ish acting.
29 March 2024
"Love Lies Bleeding" (2024) delivers a unique narrative with standout performances from Anna Baryshnikov and Jena Malone. The film's cinematography, reminiscent of "Drive" (2011) with its 80s neon glow, creates a captivating visual experience. The blend of a "Natural Born Killers" (1994) style romance adds depth to the story. Creative editing and dreamlike sequences enhance the narrative flow. However, Kristen Stewart's performance may not resonate as strongly, despite her talent. Overall, "Love Lies Bleeding" offers a compelling storyline, worthy performances, and visually striking elements, making it worth a watch despite some minor acting concerns.

Questioning the act of morals or survival.
20 September 2023
After an epic earthquake disaster the concrete smoldering ruins of Seoul seem to stretch on as for as the eye can see.

In the centre of the massive disaster one building remains standing.

Dozens of outsiders from the surrounding area desperately seeking food and shelter from the cold. Feeling a threat to their very survival, the residents enact measures that questions the act of morals or survival.

Very well written, well done cinematography storytelling and great acting.

A must watch.

I had the opportunity to watch this at tiff this year. Tickets were sold out so I had to stand in Rush Line, two hours before the movie was being viewed,.

It was absolutely worth it.

Visual pleasing, Imaginative world, Very complex story.

If you have never watched a Hayao Miyazaki film, I wouldn't recommend starting with The Boy and the Heron.

For an introduction I'd recommend to start with Spirited Away (2001) and Princess Mononoke (1997).

If you become amused and the films resonate with you. Then you will enjoy The Boy and Heron. It isn't the strongest of Hayao Miyazaki and Ghibli films but a very good addition to their filmography.

The film begins with a slow pace of mostly visually defining the world, characters and their dilemmas. As the movie progresses you see touches of another realm. Before you know it, it becomes a full-blown feverish dream of Hayao Miyazaki imagination and story telling. It eventually comes all together back on its feet at the end.

Was it fun and visually pleasing? Yes.

Was I confused at times And had a lot of unanswered question? Also yes.
