Alinagarer Golokdhadha (2018)
A Da Vinci Code set in Bengal
Good movie. Definitely worth watching, particularly if you love old Kolkata history, rich culture and traditions.
Product of a thorough research work on history of Bengal and long forgotten Bengali rites, rituals and heritage - all mashed up in a treasure hunt, right in the heart of the city of Kolkata - North Calcutta. Its like a Da Vinci Code set in Bengal instead of Europe.
The riddles used in the movie are very well thought off and executed.
There is area of improvement in smoothing some rough edges of the plot and making them a little more realistic. Also, overacting of the main conman and some supporting actors could have been avoided. Otherwise, good movie and far better than other recent treasure-hunt mystery Bengali movies of recent times!
Uri: The Surgical Strike (2019)
Uri: The Melodramatic Hype
Am I the only one who thought that the movie was an average one?
I am sure, not!
Went to the cinemas with lot of hope, seeing the overwhelming reviews. However was disappointed like anything. Can never compare this movie with Zero Dark Thirty or any other good Hollywood war movies.
Unnecessary melodrama, lackluster dialogues, weak comedy (was not warranted at all in a movie like this) and unimpactful music delivered a failed attempt to create patriotism.
Raazi and even The Ghazi Attack were way better and smarter modern day patriotic movies.
Well, the emotional subject matter and good acting by some of the actors (specially the child actress) can be the only positives in this movie.
Definitely not a worthy tribute to the martyrs of Uri. They deserve a much better homage! Jai Hind!
Uma (2018)
Megalomaniac Srijit Mukherjee fails big time
This is undoubtedly the worst movie by Srijit Mukherjee. Can't believe that this same director has given us great movies like "Baishe Srabon", "Hemlock Society" and "Chotuskon".
In spite of great acting by almost all actors, the movie fails to create any impact. The emotional angle (a group of selfless people organised an off-schedule/premature festival to honor a terminally ill girl's last wish to see Kolkata Durga Pujo) which Srijit Mukherjee tried to exploit, failed big time. Very impractical direction, poor side plots, average dialogues and overall very immature script reigned supreme over good acting, music and cinematography. Hence the recipe failed.
Tumhari Sulu (2017)
Tumhari Story?
Boring movie with pointless story and meaningless ending!
Overrated and overhyped.
Not sure how such a movie ended up with 7 stars. As the movie progressed, Sulu's "helloooo" kept on becoming intolerable. Please don't waste time watching this movie. Rather watch the trailer if you are a big VB fan.
Giving 4 stars only for good acting by male lead.
A Death in the Gunj (2016)
A Gem in the Gunj
Good storytelling powered by great acting and backed up by excellent cinematography. Please don't miss this gem.
This movie is like a story I would love to hear on a candlelit cold winter evening. Its not a scary story, but still gives you an uncanny feeling throughout.
Blue Oranges (2009)
Out of the blue!
Engrossing crime thriller that keep you wondering every scene.
Went to watch it without any expectations, but was pleasantly surprised.
Great plot, good movie.
The acting of female actors could have been better, but overall entertaining.
