Evil Dead Rise (2023)
It did what Evil Dead 2013 failed to do
It delivered the gore, scariness and looney vibe while maintaining to tell a new story with compelling characters. Could it have been any better?! Don't think so.. since it ticked all the right marks in what Evil Dead is all about. The only thing that I think was a bit of a let down was the depiction of the Necronomicom, which missed the trademark leather-flesh face on the cover, aside from that the artwork inside was really good and connected perfectly with story ark. Let this be a lesson to all the remake/sequel directors out there; If you want to respect a franchise, at least try and deliver what made the original so compelling.
Great acting by the cast, cinematography and photography was on point, soundtrack was really good, Bruce Campbell was in there so that's a huge plus, and the boomstick and chainsaw did not fail to make an appearance (and oh boy, did they leave a mark!)
Smile (2022)
Great start, bur falls very short after
Was expecting a new thrilling horror movie, and ended up watching a reimagining of 1998's Fallen.
Good performances, nice cinematography and soundtrack, but movie falls very short after the first act. Uninspiring and kinda bland.

The general plot seemed ok, but it just doesn't lead up to anything interesting or actually scary. Even the more graphic scenes were lacking some punch.
Resident Evil (2022)
Not as bad as people say it is, but...
Wasn't very excited for this because of all the Wesker thing, but gotta say I actually enjoyed Lance Riddick a lot, just think it would've been much better if he wasn't called Albert Wesker, cuz the way they introduced him on the last episodes was just cringeworthy and made no sense. I liked the cinematography, the visual effects were actually very good, and the soundtrack wasn't that bad. The overall acting was actually good, the big problem was the Wesker bait they threw in, but then just kept creating characters which didn't exist on the original material, as I said earlier, it would've worked a lot better without Albert being used.
It's a shame they didn't give the script that much of a thought and leaned into a lot of unnecessary drama, really teenage oriented, and I do get the Billie Eilish similarities, it's a lot teenage angst oriented.
Ghostbusters (2016)
Easter Egg Fest
It could've been a good movie, but instead they depended on the extreme use of Easter Eggs and Cameos, and cheap punchlines.
The characters were not interesting, not even funny, just delivering punchlines after punchlines with no connection at all.
McKinnen and Hemsworth which are actually two actors that I enjoy, just had two of the most annoyings characters ever. Not funny at all.
This was indeed a bad movie, the only fun was the easter eggs and the cameos, and the soundtrack was okay too. I'm just shocked this is sitting at 6.9, when so many other actual funny movies are review bombed at below 5. Crazy.
Alien: Covenant (2017)
Like wine, it get's better with age (with some minor flaws)
I went to the premiere of Covenant, and really enjoyed some parts of it, but left disappointed. As an Alien fan, I expected more Alien, less Prometheus.
But the thing is, I watched it again today alongside Prometheus, and this is on another level.
Ridley Scott really gave his best effort to make sense to the appearance of the Xenomorphs, and now I can see it.
It is indeed a beautiful story/metaphor of the god Prometheus, and David is the ideal antagonist on this plot.
I'm not even gonna go on to talk much about the cinematography and the acting, because it's been well reviewed by several users/critics. Fassbender excellently delivered his roles as David/Walter, and made you understand the reason behind his delusional wish of creating life.
The only problem with the whole storytelling, was the pacing, I reckon if Ridley Scott was younger the movie would've had a different approach. But I can understand nowadays things work at a different pacing with all the technology involved, and I think movies tend to be rushed a bit more.
I can't wait for a follow-up to Covenant, to see what ingenious experiments David was up to after being in comand of the ship.
Also a lot of praise for the great detail and respect to H.R. Geiger's artwork.
Euphoria (2019)
Visual Opioid
This is probably my first time commenting, but after seeing Euphoria.. I had.. I just had to write a positive critic on it.
First of all.. breathtaking cinematography! Like I haven't seen in a while, the only recent comparable thing I remember is probably 'Moonlight'.
Another point, is the impressive music selection, really fresh, versatile, and spot on for every scene in the series. Also an amazing job on the OST by Labrinth.
Finally.. my biggest respect for Sam Levinson, what a kickstart.
Every casting was absurdly good, every character was captivating and juicy, all of their plots, their lifes.. it all connects fluidly without feeling forced, the way the Director chose to detail their life from start til today, is one of the most well done writing I've seen in ages.
I was starting to feel a bit bored at the beggining, feeling like 'another series about drugs, depression, sexuality and bla bla bla, that won't had nothing new', and Boy.. was I wrong. This was one well told story, it just felt real..
I've seen a lot of great movies about drug usage, like Basketball diaries or The Boy, but this one delivered, without all the dramaticality!
Well done Mr. Levinson, can't wait for a 2nd season ✌🏻
