Ahsoka was one of the most embarrassing SW projects I've ever seen. Instead of a self-contained story, you just had to force cameos, slam with nostalgia bait, almost every cast member acting bland and completely disinterested, questionable choreography, and no heart and passion. Wow. Not the thing I wanted after the finale of Rebels. I know S2 is going to be the same thing. Sigh. In Ahsoka, Morgan Elsbeth was a completely uninteresting character with no background. I know Dave Filoni has his hits and misses, but this wasn't acceptable, especially for the fans who anticipated a follow-up to Rebels like me. WHY DID YOU HAVE TO DO THE REBEL CREW AND THRAWN SO DIRTY, GOD [REDACTED} IT! The only good thing that came out of the show was Baylan Skoll and Ezra-enough said with Ahsoka. This makes me so angry. Me and Dave Filoni have an interesting relationship where we agree on things and whatnot. It is complicated.
I don't see an optimistic future for the current state of Star Wars. What we can hope for is the hits that come and go while we are ambushed with misses. The Acolyte looks like one of those same D+ SW shows and it's being directed by a questionable female with odd motives. Instead, we're going to get a generic mUrDeR mYsTeRy in which we know what the finale's outcomes are going to be. What she said about Frozen was one of the most horrifying pathetic, embarrassing, but hilarious things I've ever heard. Dear god. Some of the costume designs do not look like anything from SW. I know this show will explore the time approximately 100 years before Episode I, but it's not going to be the same way I want to see the lore expansion.
The backstory of Morgan Elsbeth's 3-parter arc was great and made her a 3D character exploring her background and motives. BUT MY, OH MY. I've enjoyed the darkness of this mini-series. LOVE IT! There couldn't be a better opening to where General Grievous goes on a massacre on Dathomir with improved animation. I've enjoyed the HELL OUT OF THAT. He was utterly terrifying, menacing, and a badass close to his '03 counterpart. GAWD! Just makes me unleash my inner fanboy out. The whole exploration of fear, anger, and hate was well-executed. It was interesting. This goes for the Barriss arc as well. 8/10.
I love Barriss Offee, her personality, and how they handled her position after her imprisonment and the aftermath of RotS was again well-executed with nice themes of what's right and wrong, redemption. It was great to see her again. Some great stuff. I love me some maturity in SW. I couldn't stop thinking how good this mini-series was until I decided to write this review. The addition of minor blood was nice. Wonderful in-depth character stuff and vast development. =] 9/10.
I dare say this was better than Tales of the Jedi and the Final Season of The Bad Batch. I did enjoy what they did to the backstory of Dooku, but that was half of an explanation. It was still good. Nice to see what the position of the Jedi Council was like before Episode I. The way Legends did it was more complex.
8 - 9/10 for this show.
