Anyone But You (2023)
I'm just.. disappointed?
It's so bad y'all. I mean.. I love romcoms and I was hoping to see a new romcom with some charisma, chemistry, cute script and SOME sense of humour. But this, my friends, it's nothing of sorts. I've been a fan of Sydney's since Handmaids tale but this movie sells her so short. Her character is completely without depth and with no development during the entire movie. And oh my god, don't get me started about Glen Powell. He might be the most boring male lead I have ever seen in a romcom. Unnuanced, no charisma, not very good at acting, but most and foremost BORING. Boringly Hollywood attractive, not funny, not charismatic, not anything interesting. Ugh, it's so perfectly boring.
The comedy is not funny, it's not sexy, not very romantic and it doesn't make much sense. The movie is just overly sexualised and completely uncharming. I'm disappointed, honestly. I didn't have high hopes but there was a glimmer of it before I started watching. However, I didn't like that Justin Timberlake/Mila Kunis movie the same guy directed. This one feels as icky. Save your time, you don't need to see it.
Beautiful Disaster (2023)
A hot mess
Like someone else wrote, I only watched it because of Dylan Sprouse. I haven't read the book, but I can imagine it must be a lot better than this movie considering the popularity of the book. The movie budget must have been small since the only one doing a decent acting job is Dylan.
I'm sorry to say this, but it was evident through the entire movie that it's a middle aged man who directed this. The entire movie is overly sexualised in a not very natural or sexy way. It's just too much of everything and it's more gimmicky sexy than anything. It's just silly, but not in a funny way. I sensed no chemistry between any of the actors, especially not between the leads. Dylan is naturally funny and charismatic, two things all the other actors were completely lacking. Besides this, the movie didn't make much sense overall. The pacing was too fast, there was no buildup in emotions, events or anything. Everything was just back to back in a very illogical way.
I also found it a bit exhausting with all the references to the After-series. Last thing - the product placements got quite tiresome after about 15 minutes.
Overall - not great. I watched the entire thing but yeah. Not great.
Dear John (2010)
I really want to love it but there's something iffy
I love Lasse Hallström. I love Channing Tatum. Amanda Seyfried is alright, and the book is one of my favorites. But there's something about this movie that is just.. off? I can't put my finger on what it is, but regardless of having all the right components of being a romantic classic, it's just not. It could be the tempo, the conversations, lack of charm and humour (even when jokes are made), or perhaps their chemistry - but it's something not working for me. However, I've probably seen it more than ten times. Needless to say, it's not a bad movie, definitely deserving watching, and it's romantically sexy, but it's unfortunately not magical like the book.
Sex/Life (2021)
I just really can't
If you're looking for a steamy show with great sex, this ain't it. If you're looking for female empowerment, this definitely ain't it. If you're looking for a somewhat lighthearted and witty series about relationships, this ain't it either.
The acting is terrible. Don't even get me started about the script. There's absolutely no chemistry amongst the actors. The plot is not only worms for brains, but also completely bland.
The fake nipples, the blurred female body parts, the fake male body parts.. I am at a loss for words. I honestly can not understand how this could be produced at all.
If you want the sex, female empowerment, relationships, the fun - watch Normal People, or Love Life, instead. As someone wrote, Fifty Shades is an Oscar winner compared to this absolute clusterfxck of a series.
Rebel Without a Cause (1955)
Surprisingly dark and deep
This is my first James Dean movie, and honestly, he is really talented? I thought he would be pretty mediocre, but he is actually very talented. I really believe he would have been one of the best actors from that time with more time to explore his talent.
Plot wise, it's a good movie. I really enjoyed it, and it was both darker and deeper than I thought it would be.
Five Feet Apart (2019)
Such a gentle and lovely movie
I seldom cry of movies, but this one got me pouring two or three times. It was so beautiful in the most unexpecting way. Some cliches, yes, but still so thoughtful and wonderful. I voted ten simply because it really touched my heart.
Love Wedding Repeat (2020)
Cute but bland
Everyone really played their characters well - except for Olivia Munn. She had absolutely zero chemistry with anyone and made no facial expressions during the entire movie. Overall, very cute and entertaining. I wish they would have had a more charismatic female lead instead of her, that's all.
The Kissing Booth (2018)
Triggering tragedy
It amazes me that some people actually rated this movie with a 10. A 10 is Game of Thrones. A 10 is Forrest Gump. A 10 is Inglorious Basterds - or any other movie that is made with finess, experience, beauty, great actors that understand their roles and a fantastic script.
This movie contains nothing of such. I usually enjoy cheesy love stories. With that said, I love a love story that contains some kind of dept. It doesn't have to be Bridges of Madison County or The Notebook, but something more than the absolute blandness of a predictable teenage love story (and a teenage love story doesn't have to be bland, predictable or boring). With THAT said, love is quite predictable, but you can still make a cute, heartwarming teenage love story, even if it might be a predictable one.
The chemistry between the leading actors is good, probably because they're a real life couple. That is the only positive thing I can say about this ridiculous movie. Looking beside the fact that I didn't enjoy the script, actors nor storyline, what bothered me the most with the movie is that it's extremely sexist. Example 1: a guy touches a girls ass just because she's wearing a short skirt, and she's just fine with that? I mean, seriously? What the hell are we teaching young boys and girls with that mentality, whom are the targeted group of audience for this movie? Example 2: the guy she loves more than anything, I mean.. come on. He's an (controlling) asshole. A good looking one perhaps, but still an asshole. And like any other movie: the hot guy is also quite stupid since guys can't be handsome and intelligent at the same time. Genius.
I'm sorry for ranting. I shall stop now. Summary: the movie is not good. At all. Watch it if you'd like to be triggered of all the lame stereotypes.
