Journey to Bethlehem (2023)
This is true Christmas!
I hate musicals, but Journey To Bethlehem was a really pleasant surprise. The cast were all great, funny and portray very human reactions to this heavy burden. Especially Fiona Palomo who is great as Mary. The creative liberties the movie takes work. I'm so glad that a movie like this exists, that glorifies Jesus and The Greatest Story Ever Told in a new and creative way that hasn't been done before. Though the movie can be silly and the low budget is evident, but the production worked effectively with what they had. Of course I have to mention the music, it has a good selection of traditional hymns and the original are great. I am not a musical fan and I still loved the songs. Go see Journey To Bethlehem! This is true Christmas!
Bring Him to Me (2023)
Luke Sparke does it again.
Bring Him To Me was so good and interesting. It was better than I expected and was also unpredictable. The cinematography was top notch and the acting all around was great, standouts being Jamie Costa, Barry Pepper, Sam Neill and Liam McIntyre. Being only 96 minutes long, it was very well paced with the right depth. It is a dark movie, but that's what it needed to be. There are some obvious CGI car shots, and certain shots can jarring. But the movie looks and sounds great regardless. This movie shows what Aussie filmmakers are capable of. Luke Sparke is the filmmaker that Australia needs! He is pushing the boundaries and doing what no one else does.
