Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007)
As a Harry Potter Skeptic.. Best movie of the series
I grew up in the hype of HP but only ever watched 1-3 and eventually the last three movies as they came out. I enjoyed the first ones for the nostalgia but never sat down and filled in the gaps. I started rewatching all of the movies and after suffering through the goblet of fire this movie was one of the best of the entire franchise. It is absolutely pivotal for me to of seen to understand the emotional significance of the rest of the series. I saw some reviews that said it wasn't enough like the book, I'm grateful I never read the book and so I could just enjoy this for the cinematic marvel it is. I'm deeply impressed by the cgi after many years and a decade later. The acting, storytelling, and emotion far surpassed any of the other movies.
Severance (2022)
Amazing! Seriously!
Amazing just watch it! Crafted perfection! Worth the slow burn! I can't believe how invested we got into this show. That season finale was amazing. This show went form mysteriously interesting to one of the greatest unique shows in years.
Becoming You (2020)
Amazing!
This is probably the best documentary I've ever seen. So gorgeous and educational! A must see!!
Trying (2020)
One of the best shows around.
So real and funny. Brought my wife and I closer together. This show alone makes Apple TV+ worth it. Start the trail just for this show. The acting was great and believable. The writing was great and funny.
Home Before Dark (2020)
Grew on me
Definitely worth a watch. A great story and acting is very wide range. But captivating nonetheless. First tv+ show we've enjoyed that isn't tv-ma. All others are terrible but this is pretty good. Makes my subscription worthwhile. Please make more tv-14 shows.
Riverdale: Chapter Seventy-Four: Wicked Little Town (2020)
PLEASE LEARN FROM THE LAST SEASONS REVIEWS - STOP THESE
I can't believe they keep making these. At least try to make the lip syncing work if you really have to make these musical ones! You totally ruin the show every season with these. Listen to your fans for once!! This is cringeworthy.
Riverdale: Chapter Thirty-One: A Night to Remember (2018)
Took me out of the riverdale feeling; and I like musicals.
This was a bad idea. Season 2 had such a great dark twin peaks feeling to it and then they made the dialog part of the musical. It doesn't fit the story that the couples who all have beef with each other put it all aside to make a musical. Way to ruin the season. Also, their mouths and vowel shapes don't match with the words and intensity of their singing. It's painful. Just when I thought the greatest showman had the worst lip syncing....
The Greatest Showman (2017)
Um... why so many 10 star reviews?
Maybe if I didn't have almost everyone I know tell me to watch this it would've been better. But rewatch it? Some people over 5 times is borderline insanity. The story is poorly written, the sync between the over produced singing and at times laughable mouthing, and the terrible cgi all took me out of the feeling multiple times. I did appreciate how much they showed how selfish the main guy was, but there was no sense of him involved with the troup of freaks for more than just money. At times they tried to imply but they really were just a side character that he also happened to exploit. Also, what circus only has dancing and singing? This was definitely forgettable and I can't believe how many people told me to watch it. There is so much better cinema out there people! Most Disney movies are better than this.
Lady Bird (2017)
Not mind blowing, but fun!
I actually really enjoyed it. It got a lot of hype so that always has me skeptical. It isn't anything groundbreaking but the acting and script are super good and fun. It will probably resonate with your women a little more than with you but there are enough quirky spots that had us laughing. The entire movie is like the trailers. It didn't blow my mind but I will definitely watch it again. The mom is phenomenal: she really convinces you of her character. It is a mixture of Napoleon dynamite meets wallflower. I'd say wallflower is more powerful but LB is simply enjoyable and quirky. It really thrives off of its awkwardness haha. Just your typical coming of age movie with a strong mother-daughter aspect but has refreshing moments.
