Aftermath (2021)
Had potential but lost it along the way
There are some good parts to this thriller and is shot well. However the twists just keep going and by the end, everything is upside down.
Spoiler below
So did they not care that her sister was killed and their dog was poisoned? Just to laugh it off at the end and get a new dog....
Alone (2020)
Beautifully shot thriller
Although slow at times, the scenic backdrop and strong acting keeps you enthralled in this thriller. With a limited cast and dialogue, you feel you know the characters without needing in depth background. A must watch thriller. I'd rate it a 7.5/10.
Hush (2016)
Unique and thrilling
The unique aspect of a deaf protagonist really added to this thriller. I felt part of the movie and constantly wondering where it would go next.
All the Boys Love Mandy Lane (2006)
Decent slasher
I enjoy a good slasher movie and this is one of them. It's of course very cliche with a bunch of teenagers going "camping" and drinking a lot, while the slowly get attacked. I like the twist but I definitely felt like the ending was rushed. I feel there is more to the backstory like how she was orphaned, why Emmett did it and the possible trauma bond between Mandy and Emmett.
El hoyo (2019)
Excellent script, poor ending
This movie is so unique and has a great deal of meaning throughout. It is one of a kind and worth watching. The only downside is the ending, it felt a bit open ended.
La piel que habito (2011)
A horror masterpiece
This film is a masterpiece. All horror fans must watch as you can not believe this film. Sometimes the plot gets a bit lost but overall amazing.
Countdown (2019)
Horror with some laughs
The concept is amazing and it started out great. Unfortunately the special effects made it less real and less scary. Some good comedic points and could have been great but just not as well executed as it could have been.
Brahms: The Boy II (2020)
The plot twist was not right for the film
The main actor, the child, is amazing but the other actors lacked depth. After watching the first movie I was keen to see how this would follow. Sadly, the twist ruined this film for me and felt like a betrayal to the first film.
The Boy (2016)
Slow but worth it
This thriller has a unique storyline, fantastic acting and a good twist. The first half is fairly slow and so it doesn't drag you in, but the twist makes the movie.
Saving Zoë (2019)
Decent story and acting
The concept of the film and the acting was good and unique. It is a very young teen drama with some adult themes. The mix made it difficult to truly engage with the film though.
Circle (2015)
Unique thriller, poor acting
A great story that is unique and keeps you engaged. The film isn't drawn out and keeps well to time. The small set and the way they made the film was great. However, the acting is poor so you don't connect well with the characters.
Paranormal Activity (2007)
One of the first of it's kind
This means it was seen as a stand out for the horror genre. Don't get me wrong, the story and acting was great. But it isn't scary and sometimes a bit laughable to a horror fan. But it led to a franchise and pretty well done. The found footage genre of haunting was set off by this film in particular.
The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016)
Unique and disturbing
This horror is very well done. It has a unique story line and keeps you guessing. The story line is solid and interesting.
Midsommar (2019)
Hauntingly beautiful film
How do you rate such a unique film? This film has no comparison. You will be lost while watching but when you look at it again it makes sense in a deep way. Unsettling and uncomfortable, the audience is left feeling lost in a cloud of emotions. The scenery is beautiful in which you get lost.
The Disaster Artist (2017)
This film nearly outdid The Room
Having already watched The Room, I expected an over the top film. This stuck true to the original without overdoing it. Well worth a watch.
Sierra Burgess Is a Loser (2018)
Don't romanticise catfishing
The acting and scenes are good. But the story lines is not ok. Pretending to be someone else and tricking another person is not on. Kissing someone without consent is not ok (where sierra kisses jamey pretending to be veronica). Veronica is the hero here. She deserved better.
Ma (2019)
Watchable but needed more of a story
It was unique but the story didn't draw you in. A lot of things weren't followed up. Usually love blumhouse film and the actors are great but was a let down.
The Descent (2005)
Scariest horror movie
I'm a horror fanatic and this is the scariest film I've seen. Amazing acting and plot line. You will not get bored. I have watched and researched it many times.
The Invisible Man (2020)
Another good horror from blumhouse
Great acting and story. Keeps you engaged through the whole film. A couple good twists, could have been more intense. Definitely worth a watch.
Welcome Home (2018)
Good start but went downhill
Started off mysterious and the scenery was beautiful. But then the movie drags, the acting mediocre and the twist is good but does not keep your attention.
The Cleaning Lady (2018)
Decent low budget horror
Although the acting may not be the best, the story is unique and engages you from start to finish. I found the backstory added a strong element too. I would recommend if you enjoy low budget, indie horrors.
We Need to Talk About Kevin (2011)
A heart wrenching, dark drama that stays with you
Be warned, this film is raw and dark. It's not blood or ghosts, but shows the evil within humans. As a psychologist, it's not very accurate in some ways such as how he was simply born that way, but as a fictional film it is a master piece. The pain Kevin causes his family makes you feel uncomfortable, just like Kevin himself. This is not a happy story but a story that will stay with you.
The Taking (2014)
Unique twist on the horror in disease
This horror is unique in the field as it tackles Alzheimer's disease as it progresses. Is this just the disease? Is it more? Watch to find out.
Terrifier (2016)
Low budget, top horror
Be warned this is low budget and you will love this. Tense, good plot and keeps you entertained.
Mother! (2017)
Huh?
Having watched this without knowing anything about it, this movie made zero sense to me. Since researching I do understand the metaphor it is going for but I'm still confused. Definitely not scary.
