Mank (2020)
Magic. They don't make movies like these anymore these days!
Mank has made my top three fincher movies. everything in this movie was done right, from screenplay to cinematography to actings. oh dear lord, the actings. all freaking top class. Fincher is a mastermind in writing characters and he has proven it once again. I also wanna give credit to Tuppence Middleton, an amazing RISING STAR whom I followed since Sense8.
but back to the movie, I feel like fincher is showing the bright and dark side of hollywood. a corrupt side which are filled with liars and hypocrites. but fincher wants to show, despite the liars and scumbags, there are people like Herman J. Mankiewicz, who tries and tries. writes well and lives like us, he drinks, he is full of emotions and he is faced with many roadblocks... but the director here wants us to see that in this dark chaotic hollywood, there is a light and glory which Mank reached.
Overall, great job, sir.
as long as people like you keep writing, us, cinephiles are in for a ride. thank you.
Tenet (2020)
Visually, one of the best ever. Script? Pretty good.
In my opinion, Tenet has done something special here. visually it gives something to the audience that, in my opinion, has never been there in history of cinema. when the movie is over, you have this feeling as if you jumped out of the plane. full of emotions and adrenaline.
Film score is freaking brilliant. acting of all of the main actors, John David Washington,Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki and Kenneth Branagh were all at top of their acting form.
the script is not the director's best but still pretty good.
the only regret that is left for me about this movie is that I didn't see this film in cinema and big picture.
Solid 9/10.
Uncle Frank (2020)
for Alan Ball, welcome back boss. But...
I'm one of the biggest fans of Alan ball's work and die hard fan of ''Six Feet Under'' as one of the best series ever made. but this movie was not something special. just another movie about a gay man who is afraid of his family's opinion about his sexuality. I will be fair and say this movie was beautifully shot and the actings were good.
the ending was the worst part, ''an all sudden, not at all fitting'' happy ending just to end the movie for the hell of it.
Afterall, you earned my respect forever after Six Feet Under and I don't regret watching this movie either. keep writing. sir.
The Souvenir (2019)
Art. 2 hours of art.
For any real movies buffs out there, you have to see this masterpiece.
and the people saying this is boring, please to back to watching your precious "End game".
Jojo Rabbit (2019)
Fun, but forgettable!
The movie's not bad, the story gets you going and the cast is good... Specially scarlett johansson and sam rockwell... both did brilliant.
but what makes this movie forgettable is that it's copied part by part from other movies I can remember.
The romance between the two teens kinda reminded me of wes andreson's moonrise kingdom and the the nazi's part reminded me of tarantino's brilliant picture, inglourious basterds.
Afterall, it is enjoyable and I do recommend you guys to watch it once.
Zombieland: Double Tap (2019)
Loved it, but nothing like the first one!
This movie was very enjoyable but to be honest, the first one is one of the best zombie movies ever made and this one could not be compared to that one.
In this one, abit cliche was added to make it more main stream I guess... but it wasn't annoying.
zoey deutch played a ''good annoying dumb american girl'' and I can't undrestand people trashing her because of the performance.
Overall, if you loved the first one, you surely gonna enjoy this as well.
Ad Astra (2019)
Hell of a ride if you watch it in cinema!
For those people trashing the movie and recommending people NOT to watch it,I honestly don't know what to say...
sure, it was not the greatest Space movie i've seen but it's a very solid movie. and you should watch it, in my opinion.
+ Rating ''6'' is very undeserving for this movie, at least deserves an ''8''.
Ignore the ratings, critics and people...
watch this film.
The Irishman (2019)
Peak of cinema!
Possibly the most "humanly" movie of the director... I have never seen so much emotional details in a "mafia movie".
I will not go into details in this review because I don't wanna over-sell a movie that can obviously talk for itself. just watch it. asap.
I personally loved Goodfellas and Casino, but I honestly think this even tops those movies.
Damn, marty. You never stop surprising us.
God bless you and netflix for releasing it early.
Joker (2019)
Wasted R-Rated!
All the movie can sum up in a sentence, "Tod Phillips is still not a world class director".
Joaquin phoenix is not being controlled in any part of the movie, The story is not being developed at all... no real challenge is being put infront of the audience.
We don't feel the "Gotham city" atmosphere as we should at all as well. for example, the director wants us to feel the "Evilness" in the city ... he gives you three so called tense sences and how he does that starts from a dialogue from Pheonix when he is in thrapay;
"It's getting darker out there" or something like that... followed up with a next part that his board is stolen by some kids and then he gets beat up... and the third part is when he first commits murder in the subway.
That's all the director does to make us feel the evilness in gotham city!
Everytime we wanna get in touch with a challenge the main character is going though, The movie takes it away from you as soon as possible... The love story in his head, the adoption story, ...
and at the end... he gives you this "Emotional wannabe" ending where he tries to get the Bruce Wayne's parents murder sence to make you get a nostalgic feeling but even that doesn't pin out in my opinion.
The Paternal House (2012)
Detailed masterpiece!
It's a shame this movie has faced censorship in Iran over the last 10 years...
It's one of the best Iranian movies I have ever seen. so much attention to the details... how the director makes you feel every single thing till the end even if you've never experienced what is happening in the film.
I hope every single movie fan can see this freely in the cinema again and enjoy the hell out of this cinematic masterpiece.
10/10.
Midsommar (2019)
Not just a movie, BUT A FILM SCHOOL!
Ari Aster is evolving, from hereditary that was also a good movie... he grown into his art a lot more in this film. It felt like 2 hour and half school where they teach you how to make a good movie and also a story and great view of a cult group... how they live, how they choose to die, how they look at life and such things...
For anyone who's saying this movie is boring, please stick to your marvel movies and leave this for actual movie lovers who appreciate these kind of art.
the cinematography, coloring and soundtrack was also priceless.
overall, congratulations... Ari! DAMN GOOD FILM.
Se rokh (2018)
This is a complete movie!
Jafar Panahi really made a masterpiece here, kinda had a nostalgic vibe to taste of cherry due to some frames and also Through the olive tree (Movies By Abbas Kiarostami), which which I personally enjoyed really well.
the camera work was really good as well as the script.
this movie was all about small details, about tradition, differences and limitation in Iran.
after "This is not a movie", which blown me away, I'm speechless again.
Let's all hope for a day of no limitations and closed borders.
Khook (2018)
Fresh!
Iran's cinema needs more blockbusters like this.
After ''A Dragon Arrives", Mani Haghighi did not disappoint and you could obviously see the evolution in his work, the Cinematography and a very vibrant and unique color palette is the most underrated thing about the movie which is amazing, the next thing is his motive to make it a good ''dark comedy'' which he could do brilliantly and it all connected.
Overall, it was very enjoyable.
Gisaengchung (2019)
GOLD!
One of the best of the decade, Cinematography is priceless, screenplay is top-notch.
one of the best stories about poverty-wealth complex I've ever seen.
you're experiencing two stories and two completely different movies until half-way as you're watching the poor family planning their way through the other life and it connects together in the best way possible,
since the basement is found, you enter another world of twist and mystery which messes with your mind and gets you on another journey.
all I can say is,
ABSOLUTE GOLD!
Aladdin (2019)
Make it stop!
Possibly one of the worst movies in history of cinema!
HUGE disappointment and a disrespect to the audience and the admirers of the Original Animation.
Personally I did not expect much from it to begin with, but when you see a film that is written by August and Ritchie, you obviously get excited for the movie.
but this was out of the picture, this much mess... Worst choose of casting, no passion, and complete ruiner of nostalgia and lousy romance that just does not fit.
and to be honest, Smith was the best thing about this movie, his presence made me forget what a horrible picture I'm watching.
Phase IV (1974)
Did not expect that!
Great movie and not at all slow and boring, if you love this genre and style, you'll really enjoy it.
