Jujutsu Kaisen: Thunderclap - Part 2 (2023)
Jaw dropping, speechless, incredible episode.
Watching anime as a kid and moving into my later years, only a few episodes have left me completely speechless. This was similar to watching Gyutaro vs the team in Demon Slayer. In this case, the animation was crisp, dark and out of this world.
Like many of these comments, I would like to shoutout the incredible animators. Hearing some of the best animators being called to work on this episode and only considering this as '30% completed' is shocking! I know our comments will not be able to change the work culture of Japanese animations, nor will it faze the corporate world - but just know that the viewers side with the animators, respect their creations, and are also their extended voice for their rights. They deserve praise, compensation and a right to have quality time given to them to creatively draw their craft; not be rushed due to corporate greed.
Aside from my political view, going back to the episode; timeless marvel. This was like watching a movie in which I was questioning 'how did I not pay for this in theatres?' (because its just that good). Almost all of Shibuya just removed from the map! The storytelling was done so well in which the viewers saw the havoc it had on the general public. No one was safe. It was just a dance of special curses and everyone was caught up in it, whether they wanted to or not!
Wish I could rewatch for the first time. Incredible job animators, hats off.
Shingeki no Kyojin: The Final Chapters: Special 2 (2023)
10 years of memories
What an incredible journey.
As a teen 10 years ago, starting to watch this anime was one of the best decisions I could have made. Being able to grow up and live the journey of making countless theories, foreshadowing, solving mysteries, seeing character developments was a blessing.
Eren Jeager was one of the most complex protagonists/antagonists of all time. His multiple character developments throughout the series is absolutely mind boggling. You hate him, love him, understand him, disagree with him - what a love hate relationship.
The story of this masterpiece I am in awe of. I don't know how Isayama thought of this incredible piece from start to end. Many folks disagree with the ending but it satisfied me. He carried this series extremely well from start to finish. It is insanely difficult to finish such a strategic piece but I feel he did so with class. Sure many would have wanted an ending with pure happiness but this series never had 'happy endings' for the heck of it. It defies the norm and sets itself apart in a category of its own.
Thank you so much for this decade. My heart will always have a space for AOT. Thank you for having such a strong part of my childhood. This will be an anime talked about for generations to come.
'See you later, Eren'
One Piece: Wan pîsu: 20 Years Worth of Prayers! Take Back Wano Country (2023)
Laughs full of Sorrow
What a beautiful tribute episode to the 20 year warriors of Wano. In the midst of the battle, I am glad they included such a heart wrenching episode. It again reminded us of the true reason this war is going on. These people have been suffering for 20 whole years, that is longer than even Luffy has started sailing. Since before the beginning of his adventure, they have been waiting patiently for the 20 year prophecy to be fulfilled.
The direction and animation was beautifully done. It is difficult always seeing recaps in the midst of important battles; but this one was done well. It flowed beautifully and showed a story of laughs full of sorrows. A story of hope for all of Wano. Well done One Piece team!
Abbott Elementary: Fundraiser (2023)
Humor with a Moral Touch
This episode really had me laughing at the jokes. Principal Ava always has something witty ready to say up her sleeves! Loved the Principal Ava and Teacher Barbs interactions.
I loved that this episode touched on the Chocolate Bar sales that every person who attended elementary school once participated in. It went through the struggles of finding sales while building self confidence (with a humorous touch)!
Quinton did a great job (again) creating an episode which touched on minority issues while maintaining the comedic flow. It's episode like these where the audience gets to learn a moral lesson while enjoying the show.
Shingeki no Kyojin: The Final Chapters: Special 1 (2023)
Beautiful
What an incredible 1 hour of animation. MAPPA Studios did an amazing job animating such difficult scenes such as the intensity of the rumbling, Hange's odm maneuvering, titan shifting and so much more. Well done team.
As an anime-only watcher, the story never fails to amaze me. Even near the end after we've answered so many questions, we still have so many more. It is incredible to think of how detailed everything needed to be in order to arrive at the climax today. There is so much depth in this story from flashbacks, character development, progression -- Isayama truly did a memorable job.
This is an anime I have had the privilege to watch since it began back in 2013. Waiting weekly for episodes, years for seasons and now finally one more wait till the end. It has been a momentous journey.
One Piece: Wan pîsu: The Pirate King is Born: Arriving at the Last Island! (2021)
The flashback we've been waiting for - 21 Years Later
21 years since this anime started. After 21 years did we finally get to see Rogers crew reach their destination. The butterflies in my stomach and tears were all real. So many of us have been watching this show for over 10 years and we had been waiting so long for an episode like this. The next time we'll ever get to see something close is when Luffy himself will reach it!
The episode overall was beautifully done. The perfect choice of soundtrack ('memories' playing at the end was just on point), the pacing, the typical one piece comedy with the serious theme perfectly completing eachother.... it was all amazing!
Oden confirming that our questions about the People of D, the Void Century, the Ancient Weapons.... everything WILL be answered! But we will have to find it with Luffy as we wont know till he reaches there and as Rayleigh said... we may interpret it differently from them :)
The 'Laugh Tale' ending was just beautiful. They were laughing while we had tears in our eyes. I am so happy I started watching this show 10 years ago. It was only till ep 550 around then and now we have crossed 1000! Just insane.
The beauty of this series is that Luffy has been through SUCH a long journey and so have we as we've been following this for years! So in the end, when we do reach 'Laugh Tale' ... it will be the best journey for us all!
One Piece: Wan pîsu: Devoting His Life! Roger's Adventure (2021)
Everything is full circle - beautiful episode
Everything is full circle - beautiful episode. All of these recent flashback episodes have been absolutely incredible. I am currently catching up in 2022 since I take breaks in between to watch the episodes... and I have been doing this for almost 10 years now!
It is surreal to see the one and only ROGER go through all the islands we have gone through in the past. The Skypea moment was so incredible as we got to see the moment Roger had Oden carve the writing in the poneglyph. The moment in fish-man island with the sea kings talking to roger, the prophecy... it is like everything is coming full circle! All this happening while they sing the iconic "yohohoho" song just like Brook from Luffy's crew sang. The beauty of parallels of Luffys crew and Rogers is so evident here.
Absolutely love One Piece -- we have been waiting years upon years for these moments and it was delivered beautifully.
Harry & Meghan (2022)
Two sides to every story
I have not frequently kept up to date with them so this documentary was more of an introductory look into the lives of royals and the institutions. I liked that it helped explain many terms and concepts which would be foreign to many outside the UK.
There are many reviews here discussing about the nonsense of their 'first world problems' and that there are better issues to talk about - yes, that is true but this documentary is for the purpose of understanding their side of the story not to solve the worlds problems.
It was refreshing to hear their raw story without having to hear it from a "credible" tabloid. Of course it is bias in one direction, but I mean that is the point of this documentary - to get H&M's side of the story.
There were issues raised about not being protected, the race card, family member betrayals, conflicts within the royal family leaking press and so many more which were interesting to take in. It explained them in simple terms to get an understanding of what exactly can go behind the scenes of being a royal ... and what experiences H&M faced together.
Aside from the issues, I liked that the documentary also provided more humane viewpoints. Stories about Meghan meeting the family, spending time with the Queen, Harry's father, the other members - it showed a human side to these well known figures that beyond their titles, they are just a family too.
Overall, I thought it was nicely shown in a simple manner for anyone to understand. I liked the documentary format and being able to visually see their video diaries and hear words directly from them. Yes, this information could have been provide in a different medium such as an article - but I appreciated the video element to it.
Shingeki no Kyojin: The Dawn of Humanity (2022)
Full circle
We finally truly see Eren's emotions after he kissed Historia's hand and saw his future. Coming to Marley, conversing with the people outside the wall - yet him knowing what's to come. You can see his hesitation in the beginning but then he defines his resolve to wipe out humanity.
The OSTs were beautifully set in this episode. From the OST playing during the meal feast. To the OST from season 1 playing at the end of the episode. Adding the OST from season 1 was a perfect touch as it went back to the first episode, where "it all started", but now it is Eren who has come to take over.
Beautiful animations by MAPPA as always. The cannon scene was incredible. I am so sad to see this anime ending soon, it has been a ride since 2013!
Saikojiman Gwaenchanha: The Father of the Two Sisters (2020)
The reveal we've been waiting for
The moments leading up to reveal were incredible. Little subtle hints given throughout the series. This nurse being the only one emotional about Moon-Young's dad passing away. Her being the one interested in the other patient who ran away - she was the nurse who fed her stories to do her sly work. Wow all these little clues and hints all to be revealed in the end with that gloomy humming and sly smile. Well done.
Kiseijû: Sei no kakuritsu: stage: 22 Sei to mezame (2015)
Relationship
Don't read below incase you haven't watched the episode!
The growth of the relationship between Migi and Izumi has been amazing through the show. This episode really brought emotions as Migi decided to sacrifice. Even Migi, after all this time as a parasyte, still has some sort of care for Izumi.
