Look Away (2018)
Had potential like others have said
The first hour was pretty good. But the last 30 minutes sort of lost me. And what about the scene with Mark the bully in the shower? What did Airam do to him after she whacked his leg with the hockey stick? Did she kill him? If so, how did she dispose of the body. Considering she killed a few others without even wincing I bet she did. But they should have showed the viewers what happened next.
I will say the funniest part was when Airam confronted Mark in the hallway after that stupid ice skating prom where he humiliated her. But you know she was right, lol. And too bad about Lily. Maybe if she had stood up for Maria she wouldn't have had her little accident.
And her parents were something else. Dad was a plastic surgeon who thought a great birthday gift for his daughter would be plastic surgery to fix her "flaws". Mom was too busy feeling sorry for herself-dad was having fun with his lady patients after hours.
So considering all this is it no wonder Maria would trade places with her beautiful and charismatic reflection. Or did she actually have some sort of psychotic break? Or was it actually the deformed twin that her father late die? I guess the viewers have to decide for themselves.
At the Devil's Door (2014)
Had Potential
Poor Hannah. She is so in love with her new boyfriend that she meets in California while on vacation. He talks her into playing a shell game with his Uncle in which she sells her soul for a measly $500. As she plays the game she picks the right cup every time even though if the viewer watches closely you can see she was wrong the last two times. And where did that X come from on the smiley face button that was used? It wasn't there when the game started. And it moved by itself. Spooky!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As the game ends Uncle Mike happily declares that "He" has chosen Hannah to be his vessel. Well, this IS a movie about the Devil so I guess we know this isn't going to turn out well. He tells her that before he gives her the money she must go down the crossroads and say her name. When she asks why he says so he knows your name when he comes calling for you. And he will. Come calling. Eventually. Which was made abundantly clear. Poor Hannah.
Hannah is now home and enjoying the spoils of the $500 she traded her soul for. Lots of pretty new makeup and a pair of flashy red Reeboks! As she sits and paints her nails a pretty shade of red she hears a mans voice say seductively, "come to me!" Well, I guess we all know who THAT is. Of course our hapless vessel is flustered and concerned so off she goes to find out the source of the man's voice. She heads to her bedroom-I guess it's the obvious place for a sexual tryst with the horny Devil. After inspecting a noisy armoire and finding no one there she decides to change her clothes and listen to her music while lying on her bed. She does all this while keeping one eye on the noisy armoire. After a couple of looksies she notices the doors are open-gasp!!!!!!!!!!!!! She gets up to inspect and we notice via the mirror that our vessel is not as alone as she believes-who's THAT in the mirror?!!!!!!!! After snarling and catching his lady loves's attention in the mirror he proceeds to violently attack her and even though there are no shorts ripping we get the general gist when poor Hannah tries to block her crotch with her hands. A couple of twisties and poor Hannah is now lying unconscious on the floor. A shadow passes over her, grabs her leg and tosses her around some more. One gets the impression he has managed to possess her at the end of the scene.
Sounds interesting? Would have been if the story had continued on with Hannah. Instead we flash forward 20 years. We never did find out what happened with Hannah but we will. Now we are focusing on hispanic immigrant orphan girls Leigh and Vera. I'll cut their story short because frankly it's boring.
The new owners of Hannah's house are now selling it after about 20 years and Leigh is the real estate agent who is selling it. We find out in Leigh's storyline what happened to Hannah. She tried to get rid of the money but it keeps coming back. She later takes a pregnancy test and finds out she is pregnant even though she is still a virgin. She decides to kill herself by hanging much to the anger of the Devil. He uses her as a costume to hide himself for the next 20 years until he can find another vessel. The story repeats itself with Vera becoming the next vessel and this time the Devil ain't taking any chances with a premature death. He tosses Vera out the window and she is in a coma for the next 8 months. Pretty clever, Mr. Satan.
Anyway, I would have preferred the movie be just about Hannah just because of the prologue and creepy Uncle Mike. It would have been more interesting to see Hannah's WHOLE story and not just flashbacks. I found Vera and Leigh to be totally pointless. I understand why the Devil came for Hannah but why Vera. She didn't sell her soul. That was a huge hole in the plotline IMO. Plus he was looking for a virgin but Vera had a dude over so I'm assuming she wasn't.
The movie had potential but totally lost me at the Vera and Leigh stories.
The Road Killers (1994)
Not a bad movie
Okay, so family on vacation that is terrorized by some local thugs while on the highway. So, what was the catalyst that led up to the events. Was it the hotheaded father (MacDonald) who acted like an ass in the diner while confronting the thug who almost ran his kid who was standing in the middle of the road down? Or was it the nubile 16 year old daughter of the other main character(lambert) who tries to seduce the same thug in the diner's bathroom after seeing him take a leak in the toilet. Granted she didn't know who was at at the time but seriously, what the you know what was she thinking?! She works the creep all up and then realizes what a mistake she made after the fact. And all because she is bored.
So with those scenarios on the table the movie quickly escalates to Daddy #! eventually biting the dust in a blaze of glory after being challenged to a game of chicken by the thugs in the El Dorado. The rest of our weary travelers(minus daddy #2 who is beat in the head with a baseball bat) are then taken hostage by the thugs after the main thug decides he can't leave any witnesses. After some time in a locked room thug comes to collect from nubile 16 year old, keeps her as hostage while going on wild car ride with his long lost brother, and, well you'll have to watch the rest of the movie to see what happens; good luck because it's hard to find.
I thought the acting was okay. I liked Alexondra Lee(Party of Five, Callie) as Ashley. Whatever happened to such a talented actress? She, Scheffer, Brolin, Arquette and Adrienne have more screen time that the rest of the cast so we get to know them. The ending was good. If you're looking for a good movie to waste an afternoon with try this. You can find it online if you look hard enough.
Paranormal Activity 4 (2012)
Too bad this was Stephen Dunhams last film
Sadly he died right after filming wrapped up from a heart attack. He starred in this crappy movie with his real life wife Alexondra Lee.
I was never a fan of this franchise to begin with but I liked him so I gave it a shot. slow and plodding and just a rehash of the previous 3. They should put this franchise to rest.
