Severance (2022)
love it!! one of the best shows ever.
(may contain a minor spoiler)
It's a beatiful & horrifying metaphor on our working life resp. A total new take on >work life balance<. The term says it already clearly - there's either work or life, you can't have both at the same time.
So many people put on their job persona every day before they go to work which is far from their real self. I've seen it so many times myself in the business life, it makes me sad. When i met some people outside of work they were totally different people... so this show is not too far from real life, despite being an interesting mix of 80ies & nowadays & 60ies future fantasy technology.
I love the plot, love the archtecture, the amazing cast (john turturro! Christopher walken! Patricia arquette as the silently diabolical boss and all the others amazing actors/actresses).
You all do a fantastic job. Don't bother to look at the 1 ster haters. They just don't get the beauty of this gem.
As We See It (2022)
big autistic NO!!
As an autistic adult i was so excited when i heard the news - a show about autistic ppl with actually autistic actors, wow!! And then the big disappointment when i watched it. It still baffles me how we're being portrayed in the year 2022 - a bunch of weirdos, behaving like babies that can't take care of ourselves and throw tantrums - that's how you see us, really? But i tell you a secret - we are teachers, doctors, parents, CEOs, scientists, your neighbor, your funny artistic friend with a special eye for beauty. We're nothing less than you. Start portraying us properly!!!
The Last Duel (2021)
what a bore
I used to love ridley scott's movies but this one is more something to laugh at. Sad but true. It's more like a neverending summation of short trailers jumping around in time like a cricket on lsd - forwards, backwards, backwards minus 3 days - forwards plus one week - backwards minus one year, aso. - than a movie. I'm honest with you, didn't make it further than the first 30 minutes. If you watch it with some friends you can make fun of ben affleck's funny hair colour. If you watch it with your gal pals you can be furious together about that feet washing scene. If you didn't see this 2hrs clip festival i highly doubt you missed out.
Love on the Spectrum (2019)
Love this show! Love the variety of spectrum
There are two approaches on how you can see this show - some think it's exploiting people with autism, others feel it's a heartwarming display of people looking for love in a different setting then the usual boredom. I surely belong to the 2nd team, to the fans. Oh my god, all those great, fun, loveable characters... Michael, Sharnae, Chloe, Ronan and Teo + their sweet parents! Finallly there's a variety of people on the spectrum on TV! Not all autistic people are Rain Men or Good Doctors, especially seeing real women on the spectrum was eyeopening for me! It set the sails on my personal journey of selfdiscovery. Thank you very much for this amazing show!
Succession (2018)
Just another 10 star rating (come on.. what else?)
I have to admit it took me ~ 1,5 episodes to get into it and to start love-hating roman, kendell, shiv, tom & co. But now the feelings are deep and after watching the last episode of season 2 there's a void that can't be filled by random tv shows. I do handle the word "masterpiece" with care, but this is truly one - from the L to the OG, from the ear sticky intro to the writing, from casting to acting and from the settings to all the snaky twists and turns.
Moxie (2021)
Entertaining, inspiring, empowering!
I found this movie awesome, wish it would have been made 25 years ago when I was a student. This movie should be shown in every high school, seriously! Intense urge of wanting to draw a star on the back of my hand... Go, Amy Poehler! More of this, Netflix!
The Mist (2017)
mist = muck/garbage in German...
... a perfect description of the script, actors' work, the show altogether. the actors seem all woody, no real life, are they puppets or actual people? i didn't care for a single one of them. if they live or die or whatever...and i'm usually an empathic person.
if they would do their laundry & clothes ironing during the dialogues, the scenes would capture me in the same way. what a pity, i was very much looking forward to the show. sorry to say, folks - this is just boring, boring, boring. not slightly enjoyable.
made it through some episodes (don't know how, maybe i'm maso) but gave up in the end. i don't care how it goes on or how it ends, because it's unfortunately mist (again: German meaning).
Pieles (2017)
couldn't take my eyes from it
a movie that seems to come from a similar but different world... the colours, the weird and beautiful pictures playing around with the soundtrack, the body positivity message, the tragic, the darkest dephts of human desires, the laughter that sometimes gets stuck in your throat... this movie has everything. if you're looking for something that touches you in 51 shades from pink to deep dark soul black, this is your movie. no scene is everage. i couldn't stop getting enough of it. for all those shiny perfect body/faces/etc. movies (with one fat/gay funny friend for the laughs) this film is the electrifying antipode.
btw, i do not had the feeling this movie glorifies child molestation at all (what another user found). in my opinion it wants to show how cruel the world is - and in the other hand - how beautiful it can be.
Falling Down (1993)
best and most entertaining critics of society. still valid. (oh yeah)
i happened to watch "falling down" some days ago and i was astonished - more than 20 years after shooting this movie's validity and force of expression didn't expire. not at all. michael douglas does a great performance as a mr. average, who surely has issues, but to be honest, he does all the stuff we want to do. not in that exaggerated baseball bat/gunbag manner, but it's hard to think of him as the superbad guy. because he's right in so many ways.
e.g. the famous scene in the "whammy burger" chain where he's not allowed to get breakfast because it's 11.32 and they serve breakfast only until 11.30. didn't that happen to you as well and you thought - WTF? of course, you don't have a gym bag full of guns with you (hopefully!) so you won't get your breakfast and will eat your squishy smashed sad little burger that looks so super juicy and awesome on the vending poster.
or the annoying guy in the central park demanding money from you because he hadn't been eating for days - saying this with a sandwich between his teeth. or that disgusting nazi guy... or or ...
the thing is - he wouldn't have done any harm to no one, if only they would have let him alone and go (well, until the ending scenes, obviously). but it wasn't possible. this mr. average could be probably all of us on a super hot and very bad day. that's what makes it so freaky and so true and such an excellent movie in my eyes.
10 Cloverfield Lane (2016)
don't read too much about this movie before you see it.
the less you know about the film the more you enjoy! the less clue the better. the under-informed the more entertained. that's it! i would have stopped, but they want me to write 10 lines. 10 lines in English for an Austrian ... what a task (Austria, not Australia! we speak German, usually) so to fill your lines i could write down some spoilers in the meanwhile. but i won't. no fun. just 1 more thing to say: john Goodman flabbergasts me nearly every time i see him on screen. same here, in 10 CLOVERFIELD LANE. how he transformed from roseanne's husband ... blablablah. you really wanna hear more of my blah? see. OK, so enjoy the movie, folks!
