This is a fantastic movie
8 April 2024
I'm trolling through PRIME and ITUNES on Sunday afternoon for a good horror movie. Slim pickins' for sure. Our threshold is low. We'll watch a two- or three-star movie if it feels like fun. Then all of a sudden, we come upon the trailer for Totally Killer. Recognizable actors, good production value, great trailer. How could we go wrong? And in fact, we couldn't.

This movie was a complete pleasure to watch. The acting was top-notch, including every single person in the cast. Even the mean girls were fun and had hidden depths. The lead, Kiernan Shipka, was a pleasure. I had never seen her before and maybe never again, but she was great in this movie.

Best of all, I liked the ending. Made for a very happy Sunday afternoon.

Frasier (2023– )

After Episode 2, rating went from 4 to 1
17 October 2023
Kelsey Grammer is ok and since it's his show he had better be. Lyndhurst and Olagundoye are funny. They could help sustain the show but need more screen time. Problem is, where to go with it. Make the show more about his teaching? But OMG, the Frederick and the nephew are abysmal. Who thought they were a fit, who thought they could act? Salgueiro isn't terrible, but has not place. The kid isn't a cute distraction or plot device. The script is terrible. Apparently nothing will work unless you try to duplicate the father - son relationship that Frasier had with his dad. Lame as lame can be. I won't be watching Episode 3. 2 was plenty.

Outrageously horrifyingly funny movie
23 January 2023
If you didn't get it from the title, this is a very funny movie. As others have suggested, the movie barely dips a toe into horror territory. But that's ok, the humor and fine acting carry the movie. And there is enough gore to satisfy.

I'm unable to point to a bad acting job. Several veteran actors added depth to the movie and the younger, in my world, actors created the energy. I won't elaborate on any standout performances since I hate spoilers, but Taylor-Joy took a Cuisinart to the proceedings that was a delight. Nicholas Hoult, whom I haven't paid much attention to, was perfect. And Ralph Fiennes, who I only see as Voldemort and M, is just plain fun to watch.

Literally despised the movie
18 December 2022
I made it through about 2/3 of the movie before giving up. I was waiting for brilliance and found none. I was waiting for humor and found none. The slow start turned into a slow plodding personal rant on the virtues of socialism. I one point I thought I was watching Gosford Park at sea as it had the same pace and feel. Then we moved to the really bad hate the rich part that had me longing for the horror movie I almost chose. And finally, the Lord of the Flies segment did me in.

The acting was ok, but wasted.

The reason I despise the movie the the nearly 2 hours I wasted before turning away and checking email.

Was surely written by a child

Warning: Spoilers
I had medium high hopes for this movie when I saw that it wasn't filmed in British Columbia like all other Hallmark-esque movies. First off, the lead actress was terrible. Must have been her first acting job, but I believe that is wasn't. Every action and reaction she made was overdone. Maybe it was the director, not curious enough to find out. The story was contrived to get her to the ranch, but I tried not to let that bother me. I knew it was well intentioned to get through the juvenile angst part. I had high hopes once she arrived at the ranch. My hopes weren't rewarded and were completely smashed by the ludicrous ending. What could have been a sweet movie of a girl finding her place in the world become more teenage angst. I'm so disappointed by the ending I can barely give 3 stars. And please remember feel good movie makers, you've got to have a feel good ending. This ending left me in despair for the younger generation.

2 hours of program crammed into 5 hours of series
5 October 2022
There's a trend in television, especially in 6-8 episode series' to carry one story arc for the whole season. That really annoys me. It's lazy writing and abuse of viewer's time.

Very seldom can you find enough content to carry it off. Shetland doesn't have the content. "Plot extenders" just make the cops look incompetent and blabber mouth for letting their theories out to the public. I've watch Shetland from the beginning, but at some point I'll lose interest. As of now, they have enough red herrings in the plot to feed the 5000.

There are a few series like this one that run a story line for 2 episodes. I'm ok with that.

Janney is the only good thing about the movie.......and the dog.
26 September 2022
I originally gave the movie 3 stars. But having slept in my decision, I changed to 2 stars. Seriously, the costar, Smollett, is apparently a big deal, been acting awhile, big roles, etc., I don't get it. Maybe it's the directors fault, but she is terrible. The kid is okay although opportunities were limited. She was self-confident, calm, looked you right in the eye, all good.

I'm also sick of these British Columbia locales. God, how wet and boring can you get. Try a desert for a change.

Story wasn't bad. Good twists which I won't revel lest I have to check the spoiler button.

Finally, take Janney to a better locale and that character could make a TV series. There are enough bad series around for her to best them.

If I'd know it was based on a true story, I'd never have watched it.
29 August 2022
I was trolling for an adventure movie for a Sunday afternoon and came upon this offering. Good reviews enticed me to add it to my movie list and from there I was lost. My wife is a big Harry Potter aka Daniel Radcliffe, so that was I choice. I didn't know if was based on anything but imagination until the movie started.

"Based on true stories" are generally garbage. Whether it's climbing Everest, stuck on an Andes peak eating each other, or suffocating in a mining cave-in, they all stink. Not very much is actually true because "true" hardly ever makes a good story. So, everything is embellished and the screenwriter tells us what happened. Not sure why the book was written except the guy need money, but they sure as heck didn't need to make a movie about it.

I will never get over Harry Potter's smile. If he really want to shake the character, lose the smile. Scenery was pretty good, but not good enough to hold my attention. Trying to come up with a redeeming part of the movie is futile. I actually gave it a 3 star for Harry, so there you go.

Someone should be fired for the title sequence
10 July 2022
What's there to say, the original French version is classy, funny, beautifully filmed, and great acting. The English (UK) version is the exact opposite. And I still can't believe the opening. Makes London look like a third world country.

A true guy flick, nothing else matters
7 May 2022
If you are not a man 40, this movie may have been wasted on you. There are a huge number of chick flicks for all ages of women, but few "guy" flicks. Not buddy movies. Not the same thing.

This movie got me the first time I saw it. The successes, the failures, the hope and despair, all come to a head in an alien landscape where all the safeguards of modern society are stripped away.

Anyway, I really felt for this guy. Easy to forget that it is Tom Hanks.

As Good an Adaptation of Book Ever
24 April 2022
First, in response to those who find film slow. All British mysteries are slow. All British mysteries cram 2 hours of story into 6 hours of broadcast.

The difference with this production is, it's really well done in between the important bits. The acting is very good. Lucy Boynton did a great job reminicent of the 2009 version with Georgia Moffett as Frankie. Haven't seen Will Poulter since Dawn Treader and was pleasantly surprised at how he has aged and become more talented.

Thorougly enjoyed it. Looks like there are more to come.

Definitely slow, how much horses is yet to be seen
7 April 2022
Good to see the America's fascination with wokeness has crossed the pond. Unfortunately for me, I like every character. The problem is the story line. Sorry but Ep.1 did it for me. A major problem for Slow Horses and me, is that there are a bunch of good British mysteries out right now. And I mean really good. Makes this look worse.

Great series until the last to seasons
2 April 2022
We rewatch quite a few series every few years. Burn Notice is one of our favorites. I have to remind myself to avoid the last two season however due to the most outrageous, unbelievable, and deliberately assisting shenanigans of Michael and company. We wrapped up the series again last night with the preposterous finales that sends me screaming at the TV. I won't make the mistake again.

Cute and quirky only go so far
9 January 2022
Season one enjoyed the benefit of a new series honeymoon with a charming French locale and a "cute and quirkly" leading lady. As the season wore on her ineptitude began to show. You would almost think she was trying to alienate every French person she encountered.

Anyway, season 2 gets off to a rocky start. She's now completely annoying and the cuteness has faded.

It all my fault that I hate the movie
1 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It's my fault. No, I didn't read the reviews, I didn't read the synopsis, and I didn't discuss the movie with a friend. Therefore, I take full responsibility for hating the movie.

I'm a very simple viewer. I judge a movie by the ending. Worst ending to a Bond movie yet. And apparently, the worst that there will be. I thoroughly enjoyed the first 2 hours and 40 odd minutes of the film. Never liked Rami Malik, bad guy, in anything. He a drag and can't act. Not sure what accent that was supposed to be. I liked the faux 007 after I got used to her. Felix is one of my faves. Madeleine is okay. Could have seen them riding off in the to sunset. My favorite M ever. Big fan of Q. Then they ruin the entire movie.

Salvation is available. Bond found a bunker to hide in, found a cure, and comes back played by _______________(fill in the blank).

One of my regrets is that I bought it instead of renting it. I've bought all the rest, why change? Now I know why.

Dr. Hunt, RIP, please!
16 November 2021
We started watching this series during the pandemic because of a couple of episodes of Castle in which Delany appeared. She was very good and low key as an FBI agent.

The series began with a blustery performance of an out of control, abusive, self-absorbed M. E. with tons of baggage. As with most series the characters become more bizarre as the seasons roll on. Unlike with us ordinary folk who try to correct our interpersonal shortcomings, TV characters tend to become more exaggerated.

We made it through the 2 1/2 seasons, but I trying wanted Dr. Hunt to be one of the casualties in the finale. One of the most irritating characters I ever watched.

First season novelty has worn off, season two is an F
13 November 2021
I enjoyed season one. It was novel with a fresh premise, unsettling opening titles, and a couple of interesting characters. That's all gone.

After giving the new season a try I had to change my rating to a 1. The show is horrible. The intro is unfathomable. What the heck with all the vaudeville? The current cast is not funny and annoying.

I'm done. Time to move on.

If I were younger and liberal I probably wouldn't find it so vile
5 November 2021
Where do I start. Many years ago at the shows inception we watched for awhile, but ultimately found the program more mean spirited than funny. I felt like watching was darkening my spirit. Tried the latest season Ep. 1 because my wife saw a clip and thought is was worth a try. It wasn't and isn't.

I'm definitely not in their demographics.

Inexcusable Propagandizing
26 October 2021
I'm shocked at the blatant politicizing of the show. They were once more subtle with their bias, but now they've crossed the line. Everything is right wing extremist and now a direct insult to the people of Arizona regarding election irregularity and recount. We couldn't finish the episode.

I've watched NCIS: LA from the beginning. I'll never watch it again.

Humor came back strong. May be some life left afterall
23 October 2021
Gary Cole is a great addition. It's nice to lighten the mood from the constant hand wringing and reflection of Torres and Palmer. Katrina Law was a great addition as well. She was good in Hawaii Five-0 until the series left her. Still like McGee. His health seems to fluctuate depending on his diet. One minute he looks health and the next he looks like a cadaver.

Keep up the good work, avoid wokeness and the series will continue to do fine.

23 October 2021
I liked everything about Episode 1. The only reason I gave it only an 7 is that I suspect they'll drag out this super villain Lucky for the season. Also, no TV show is worth more than a 7. Period!

Great characters in the team. Like the boss and all the techs.

How can you get that much slobbering racial conscience in one episode?
22 October 2021
NCIS: Los Angeles always has its moments of "feelings" venting, generally gushed from G. And there's always too much baby talk from Marty and Kensi. That really needs to stop unless one of them quits danger job.

This time they tops themselves with a pathetic outpouring of WOKE concerning a hate crime against an Asian senior attacked by baddies. Every character got to expound on their personal feeling about racial injustice. How novel and cogent.

I could argue that our obsession with race is causing the problem, but let's just leave it at "Cut it Out!". Tell and action store that we can use as an escape from a nasty, pandemic world. If you can't do that, I can't watch.

Better than reviewed, great lead performance
17 October 2021
Once again, I don't think there are any movies being made the deserve better than a 7. Having said that this movie is a 7. That's great for a horror movie but I love horror movies down to a 2-3 star.

Best thing about the movie was the lead. Rebecca Hall was superb. Not much supporting cast to consider, but I'd like a friend like Claire.

Finally I'd like to see Hall in a cop show. Maybe NCIS: Hawaii. She has great screen presence, intelligent, energy.

Not sure where to go with Season 2
16 October 2021
Big fan of season one. Liked everything about it. Fresh and original. Like all the characters. At the end of season one i wondered where we'd go with season two, IF it made it back.

Now we have season two. Rough start. Few good jokes, but I found it hard to follow. Disconnected scenes that I suppose where meant to move the series forward. It didn't.

To my mind season one was a one off. Season two might was well be a brand new series. We finished the drama with season one. The comedy is all we have left and episode one didn't deliver.

Good luck to them, but I have my doubts as to the success of the season.

Not as bad as review would suggest
5 October 2021
I get the impression that a large percentage of those who leave reviews are shopping for Mercedes in a lot full of Hyundais. Hasn't been a 10 rated movie made in over 40 years. Best movie made these days is a 7 rating.

This movie is criticized for the age of the lead. Most teens are played by 20 somethings. Unrealistic vampires? It's a vampire movie granted. How do you get realistic vampires? Stick with which vampire clique?

The movie is kind of fun. Not pretentious except for the Katrina references and even some of those are debunked. It'll never win an award, or better not, but who cares.

Enjoy!
