Mother/Android (2021)
Could have been good
Parts of the movie drew me in. It was not an action flick like some seem to want it to be, but more a journey in a dystopian future. And if it had just been that with a somewhat positive end. The drone sequences were terrible, it suddenly looked like a low budget flick. And the rescue was pretty weak. But the end. I mean. It was like building up a fire just to toss water at it and kick you out. Did he die and she went on or did she leave him for giving up the baby? Oh well. I have to admit I am a bit annoyed that it had a slow but okish buildup just to mess up and end with a fizz.
I just wanted something in the background while doing some activity but I ended up watching it. However, I went here to see if someone could explain me the ending because it made no sense.
Hyperdrive (2019)
Quite good and rather entertaining
Not much I watch keep me on the edge, but this sure did.
Commentators,
Of the commentators I only recall Rutledge Wood from Top Gear US. He does an ok job despite the typical American sensationlism that keep mudding down the quality of the show. People haven't been working their entire life to win hyperdrive.
The program layout,
I never understood why the qualifying gave some drivers a chance to try again over and over again and some had just one chance since they started the competition in a later show. I'd rather have two-three sets that takes qualification spots instead of the current format. But oh well, it is what it is.
The tracks,
It might seem like it's more a drift show than an obstacle course at times but then again the deducting for the drift part was fairly low. It was so that even if they missed a lot, the main challenge was one obstacle in particular. That obstacle favored those few who mastered it, and that made it unfair for those who nailed everything else but still lost to less skilled people who failed at most else.
The contenders,
It was a really diverse group to begin with and it narrowed down with a good spread of characters. Didn't feel like the track favored a particular driver, but there was drivers that kept giving almost perfect runs every time so of course they become the ones to beat.
So with a more balanced obstacle layout and with a commenter (or script) that is less hopeless American sensatiolism, it could be a glorious second season.
But one thing that really really bugged me, what the heck did they compete for? That trophy and the bragging rights to say they won a car game show? Or was it money, sponsorships etc?
Taxi 5 (2018)
A pretty nice movie in the Taxi-series.
Given all the time since the last, you knew it was not going to be the same as the previous ones and let us be honest, Taxi 4 was not that great. It have went from great to silly. So well, I expected something between that and the crappy american version.
One glaring omission was that there are no Samy Naceri. The lack of his persona and wit made Taxi as fun as it was. Franck Gastambide does a good job of being a cocky driver and have his own charm so they found a replacement that wasn't a copy which was good.
The other crew was also a bit in the silly nature of the series. A few of homages and flashbacks to the previous movies was also there. And a few trademarks of the series. That they cast Bernard Farcy was pretty crucial to getting the right feel. I have to say when he appeared I had to smile.
So the story progressed from interesting to a bit dull when it was building up but when it got going, it was in pure Taxi style.
Expect a slightly slow to really fire up but pretty enjoyable, extremely silly and quirky movie that had some great car action bits and quite a few moments that one might chuckle over. It's no Taxi 2, but if you want more of the same it's that by a good margin. You might have grown out of the humor during the past ten years but if you always have room for something silly it'll be good.
I hope there will be a number 6 because I'd love to see what they do now that they have established a new setting and doesn't have that buildup to take screen time.
Blindspot (2015)
Season 1 is a 7, season 2 is a 2. Fear how bad season 3 will be
It's one of those shows that starts off great but nosedive because the writers are not vaguely familiar with the topics they write about or choose to be ignorant to make it more appealing. I think anyone watching past mid season 2 only does it because they want to know how the story plays out, not because they enjoy the show.
And it seems the actors are getting bored too. Sullivan Stapleton (Kurt Weller) has dialogues that can be mistaken from someone reading out loud off the script for the first time not really knowing what he is saying and just stumbling through the lines without emotions or drive.
And they go from plausible to just plain silly pretty fast.
