Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (2022)
I'm on season two and it still doesn't disappoint.
I'm so happy for this series. I was worried there would be nothing good to come from the social politics of today, but thankfully there are still some writers that aren't influenced by the horrible state of things. We can escape to this wonderful series that makes me happy to watch every episode. I just finished watching Season 2 episode 9, and I haven't had that much fun watching anything Star Trek in a good long while. It actually brought tears to my eyes more than once. I think I needed that episode more than I ever thought I did, and I am thankful to everyone involved in making it. I pray that this series doesn't get infected by modern progressive social values. Keep up the good work!
The Covenant (2023)
Outstanding movie, great cast. Well done.
It has been a while since there was a worthy military movie released, and I am very happy with this one. So happy, that I won't get whiny about the somewhat lacking consultant and location work. The cast was perfect. Not one character was done wrong, and all of them did their work very well indeed. As for the story, I was stationed at Bagram for a spell, and I met an interpreter or two while I was there, but never worked with one directly. My heart aches for those left behind, and for the families left by our horrid presidential administration that is solely responsible for the travesty we left behind. I pray that more find their way out, and that one day peace and the eradication of the Taliban scum someday comes.
The Night Agent (2023)
Overall it's not bad, but there's too many issues to ignore.
First, everyone sounds like they are wearing retainers. If the production wants to test mouth worn microphones, they should do it with a B movie or train the actors how to sound natural. Also, they should go ahead and fire the consultant that was in charge of the military personnel. The marines tending Marine One can't even snap a salute or wear uniforms that fit. The show is good.... but it was executed badly by a direction team that just barely failed. The actors are MOSTLY good....the VP's daughter is too dramatic, and she seems to be forcing it. The Secret Service agents are not believable, and they killed off the only one I liked. Other than that, not bad.
The Peripheral (2022)
Well this is something special.
I am genuinely delighted at the originality and screenplay here. A real cast of truly talented people coming together to make something that had better last. What a great premise this is. I cannot wait until the next episode...which frankly can't come fast enough. I am so very tired of all the arthouse sci-fi melodrama these days, and for this absolute gem to come along, is a welcome change.
Chloe shines bright in her character, as she usually does, and I am excited to see that Jack Reynor is in this. He adds the perfect element to his role. I am very much looking forward to seeing where this series goes, and I hope it doesn't get cut off at the knees like so many other great shows, simply because the wannabe critics don't see enough wokeness.
This should be something special indeed.
Top Gunner (2020)
It's another horrid Asylum travesty....
What else is there to say? If Asylum's name is on it, you already know it's trash. I don't know how they got Eric Roberts to jump on board with this nonsense, but they did....and I feel bad for him. He may have a long B-movie history, but this is way worse. Just utter crap. Avoid it at all costs, unless you have the ability to look past the bad acting, the bad lines, the bad CGI, the bad story/plot, and the overall ineptitude.
Star Trek: Picard (2020)
Stewart is brilliant, but the rest.....who wrote this drivel?
I came for Picard....and he doesn't disappoint. The rest of it however, is very disappointing indeed. Whoever is writing this crap has clearly never watched Star Trek. Half the cast is good at what they do, the other half is horrible. The soap opera overacting is almost unbearable, the side drama is nothing but filler, and I don't know how much more more bad facial expressions I can take. Agnes and the person who plays her....well, they both suck. The director is killing me almost as much as he/she is killing this show. I certainly hope the bad actors get killed off soon, or this show is doomed. Beyond that, the plot has promise, and it is too bad that it is being executed in such a horrible manner.

Deputy (2020)
Great start. Can't wait for the next episode.
Pay no attention to the purist morons that are looking for any detail to hate on. This show has some serious promise. The opening scene in episode one grabbed me, and every scene thereafter made sure I wanted to see the next one. I very much look forward to more. Glad there's finally a good cop show that isn't chock full of incessant drama. I'm also happy to see Stephen Dorff back in action.
Black and Blue (2019)
Better than I thought it would be. Give it a chance.
I freely admit I went into this thinking it would be just another useless Hollywood movie, but I was wrong. Colton and Harris did do a bit of overacting, but only a tad. Otherwise they did well. Gibson did great, as usual. The writing could have been a bit better, but it was good enough. The action was good, the visuals were good. it wasn't too dramatic.... a good blend. Overall, it was a pretty darn good movie.
Solis (2018)
Soulless....it could have been good, but it wasn't.
The story was ok, if the ending were better....which it wasn't. No details, but the ending sucked a bag of a*sholes. The whole thing was ruined right from the start, by the utterly horrible sound team. How this made it to release without anyone noticing that the overpowering, excessively loud, nearly constant music was actually drowning out the lines from the actors and the ship computer. I couldn't take it....it was almost the entire movie, just drowning in that awful music.
Oh, and let's not forget the sheer amount of long, drawn out sequences of nothing....what the heck is that about? Just random shit on screen for like 3 minutes at a time, for no reason. The main actor wasn't bad, but he needs better direction. FAR better. Such as....when you look to your left and expect to see your coworker buddy and his face is half exploded, your reaction is not to brush it off as if it's no big thing. Hate to break it to you.
This movie had a tiny bit of potential for a while there, but then it went full Asylum and ended up sucking eggs the whole way through. It got two stars because it COULD have been good....maybe....if the people that made it were never here, and someone else made it. Anyone else.
Star Trek: Discovery (2017)
It's barely Star Trek, but it is good overall....albeit a bit too PC.
So I watched 2 episodes, and so far, it's OK. Good enough to keep at it.
Obvious first downside for me? It took less than 3 minutes of episode one to shove feminism, empowered minority women, and trans-gendered innuendo at us full bore. It is also extremely focused on feelings, and goes into great length, each and every little thought and feeling every character has, at every damn moment.
At least that's how it seemed.
Long drawn out dramatic sequences, and probably a third of the run time wasted by drowning us in drama.
What the hell kind of Klingons are those?? It's barely Star Trek. Barely. I don't know where they are going with this, but I sure hope it gets less dramatic, and more Star Trek-ish.
And now for the good parts. The parts are acted well, despite the melodrama in every scene. It is written well, and the story is good enough to keep you interested....again, despite the overabundance of drama.
I will keep watching, and hopefully it gets better.
Iron Fist (2017)
It's not good....it could have been, but it's not.
The lead....let me just start with that.
He was the wrong person. It's that simple. Finn Jones was apparently schooled in the art of soap opera melodrama, and badly executed over-acting. Sadly, the cringes were frequent, and lasting. His romantic interest, is OK...just OK.
The other actors in the show were all pretty much spot on, aside from the awkwardly uncomfortable moments with David Wenham's character, Harold. He does do the budding villain well, but at times I felt the uncomfortable feeling that he was a creepy, unstable foster uncle.
As for the show itself, the first season is 13 very long episodes. At least they seemed really long. It could have been a 4 part mini series of one hour shows. They dragged this show out to 13 episodes with so much nonsense, melodrama, whining, moaning, and cliché bad decisions, that it took everything I had inside me, to choke down the whole season.
I am SO disappointed.
The drama....oh my god, the drama. Every scene that was intended to be some meaningful moment...and there was a lot...was like a horse that has been shot in the barn, left overnight to rot, then is drawn out, and beaten over and over and over. And once the corpse has decayed, it is re-hydrated, and beaten some more.
Dear TV show makers...PLEASE, for the love of GOD, stop having the characters make every single wrong decision possible. We are sick of it. And lose the drama...this is not AMC's The Iron Fist.
This was badly done, and I am sure Marvel is not happy. If they let this out, knowing what it really was....then they have only themselves to blame.
One more thing...the fake/paid reviewers on here are getting out of hand.
One Under the Sun (2017)
Three stars....only because it COULD have been good...but wasn't.
Don't believe the ratings on IMDb until they have had a few weeks to get the REAL ones. The bad movies in particular, routinely have fake reviewers, most likely involved in the movie making somehow. This movie was not good. Another horrible audio score that is incessant, and overbearing....too loud, and never ending. The acting was not natural...half the dialogue was forced...like the actors didn't remember how to be human once they got in front of the camera. Other than that, it's a good story, just not very well presented. I have always hated when a really good story gets ruined by bad film makers.
The three stars is generous.
In the Name of Ben Hur (2016)
Not a paid reviewer, and this is Asylum again....
We have all learned by now (I hope) that anything touched by Asylum is garbage. So much garbage. I keep trying to give them a chance, but I keep being disappointed in a big way.
As usual, the acting is sub par, but in this case, that is the best part of the movie. Don't actors know by now, that if you let Asylum infect your life, that you will fail, and only ever be able to act in shitty B movies? That was me, being nice, calling it a B movie, by the way.
Bad soundtracks....really bad....coupled with bad choreography, bad wardrobe, bad hair....honestly, do they really think that some pretty white boy with a 90's boy-band haircut is really cutting it as a vigilante from that era, trying to remove the Romans? That's just lazy.
The production, casting, and direction crews are the worst the industry has to offer. Hands down.
Hot chick with a bow....check. Warrior woman.....check. Overacting main characters....check. Precisely nothing authentic.....check. Cringe inducing travesty....check.
Yep, it's Asylum all right.
Independents' Day (2016)
We know how this one will go without even watching it...
Asylum production had their ridiculously untalented hands in this one, so there's really no need to review it at all, am I right? They should never be allowed to make films, and the whole world knows it. How they get any funding is beyond me. Everything they have ever touched has turned to junk. Just a travesty of a movie making entity, they are. Sadly, this movie didn't have a chance. It was a piece of crap the very second it was in the hands of Asylum. They routinely cast people right off the street, wardrobe is always just plain tragic, special effects....I can't even call them special effects....just no. Someone needs to put an end to Asylum....soon.
Fear the Walking Dead (2015)
We've all seen these bad decisions before.....
It's as if the makers want us to believe that the characters in the entire walking dead universe, have never watched TV or a bad movie. Why? Because all the lines, all the decisions, all the drama....is all bad. Just....bad.
Honestly....why is it that they seem to think making yet another show where the characters make all the wrong moves....would be a good thing? These shows have burned me out on dramas.....how on earth did drama become good anyway?? Just an hour of blah blah blah...life. We get it.
Can we get to the action and good decisions please? Bored out of my mind, and I hate almost every character on this show. Good job, writers....not.
Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments (2016)
It could be good...but it isn't yet
I saw the movie, and remember thinking that it could be a great series. This is not that great series I had envisioned....so far. I am only on the 3rd episode, and I am seriously considering dropping this one from my 'what to watch this season' list.
EDIT 2/10/16 episode 5 down....show DROPPED. I can't take it anymore. A travesty....and it's too bad, I was hoping this one would be good. They RUINED it.
Whoever did the casting needs to never work in the field again. That being said, the main actress is gorgeous, but a B+ actor at best and desperately needs a coach. Now. One that knows what they are doing. The writers also need to be replaced. Now.
The actor playing her bestie, Simon....god I want to slap that guy around....a lot. WHY did they write this whining loser this way?? He is a decent actor, but I hate his character right off the bat. Most of the other actors actually deserve to be here, but the leading roles, and the sub-par writing, are going to drown any hope of this turd helping their careers. It may actually hurt them, sadly.
We are going to be dragged down the 'friend zone drama' highway for how many episodes? Please....for the love of all that is sci- fi....stop regurgitating every tired cliché, garbage, time hogging, plot line that has been played out long long ago.
EDIT 2/10/16 episode 5 down....friend zone overdrama still very active, and Simon is still whining incessantly.
IF they can manage to get the actors to be at least decent at their roles, and IF they can get their writers to stop copy/pasting lines, expressions, situations, and plot points from B- movies, this does have potential....but they better get on the ball soon, or they will see their viewer count drop...fast.
LAST EDIT 2/10/16 episode 5 down....This show sucks...bad. Really bad. They need to: 1) Lay off the overdone fashion...stilettos in a fight...mmkay. 2) Shut Simon up, or at least stop the whining, and lose the friend zone drama. 3) Get some REAL acting coaches in there...NOW. 4) Fire the writers...NOW. Among many other things...
Let this be a lesson for TV show makers....take the time, do it right. This...was not done right. Not at all.
