The Charge of the Light Brigade (1968)
Painful to Watch
This is such a bad movie. Annoyingly bad. How many homeless people could have been fed for what they spent to make it?
It starts with the premise of an historical event. Tennyson had to be rolling over in his grave. It is insultingly bad.
You notice I have nothing good to say about the movie. And because the highlight of the film is The End.
A good cast wasted by a terrible script and a director who wasted money. On costumes, extras, horses, and anywhere else. Instead of using it for the plot.
The Errol Flynn had better end to end story. Even if there is token accuracy. At least it was entertaining.
The Mystery Man (1935)
Weak plot. Did I say, WEAK?
This movie was doomed from the start with the script. I wonder if the plot was written on the back of a bar napkin? And half if the napkin was blank when finished. Or like a kid's game you make up as you go along.
Some of the cast is good and tries hard. But they are rolling a boulder uphill. I wonder if Robert Armstrong wished he was back on Skull Island?
Given the plot, what could the director do? There is a lot of talking-to fill up the time. Do this. Then do that. Like wandering in a maze and not knowing where to go.
It is a movie that could have been better. Not great. But better.
A movie that has been lost over time.
Law of the Pampas (1939)
One of the brst Hoppy movies
This movie has changes from the usual Hopalong Cassidy movies. Changes for the good. Start with the supposed location of Argentina. That sets up a plot variation. But the best part is the actors. Paramount did a good job. Start with Sidney Toler who played Charlie Chan in many movies. He became Charlie Chan after Warner Oland died. Then add Sidney Blackmer. His career spanned silent movies and talkies. The latter includes The Count of Monte Cristo as bad guy, Mondego. Their screen time meant less time for Lucky. A refreshing change. A thumbs down on whoever created his character. The only "wrong" is no Gabby Hayes or Andy Clyde.
Making the Cut (2020)
Favoring a designer
I watched much of season 1. Then stopped. There seemed to be some bias. One designer seemed to get more coverage/air time talking about himself than was given to the other competitors.
Tarzan's Revenge (1938)
Was I generous in grading?
Bad acting. Bad script. Bad music. A triumvirate. It is one of those movies I ask how many needy people could have been fed for what they spent on making and distributing this movie.
Under Two Flags (1936)
Waste of a Good Cast
You would have expected a better movie reading down the cast members. It took effort to make the first half boring--as if it didn't know what it wanted to be as a movie--a romance or a light action film. The second half was a bit better, but not enough to make up for the first half. My rating is more in recognition of the cast than the quality of the movie.
55 Days at Peking (1963)
MEDIOCRE DIRECTING
It should have been a better movie with the cast and ser/scenery.
Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018)
A comedy or action film?
Funny parts? Weak action story. Struggled to figure out what kind of a movie it was.
Cheyenne Autumn (1964)
Bad
This may be John Ford's worse movie. Weak script. Mediocre acting. Miscast.
