Nourish the Beast (1974)
Nourish the Beast
If you ever have the opportunity to watch the very funny play, Nourish the Beast, I'd like to recommend that you do. It is about a very eccentric family consisting of a husband and wife with an adult daughter and son. And the camera thief that the son (a cop) couldn't bear to take to jail.
In some ways the family reminds me of the equally nutty family in the more well known play and movie titled 'You Can't Take It with You'. However the characters in 'You Can't Take It with You' were blissfully unaware of just how weird they were. In 'Nourish the Beast' the characters are a little more angst filled (although no less eccentric). In this play assorted family members are not really blood-related at all but were added to the family when they responded to advertisements that the main character had placed in a newspaper.
This play is very funny due to the revelations and interactions of the family members. In fact the most 'normal' character of the bunch is the camera thief who is handcuffed to the radiator throughout most of the action.
