C'è ancora domani (2023)
Great movie....
Ms Cortellesi's debut as a director is amazing, as she is known in my country as a comedian, and she surprised most of us with the amazing all around talent.
Maybe being Italian, watching it in its original language and knowing a lot about the period the movie is set in (remembering my grandmother's recollection of life during WW2 in Rome and afterwards) made me appreciate it more than other viewers.
Loved the way the movie is shot, black and white gives it a very special feel, and the settings of a Rome of 1946 are great.
Obviously the most talked to spect of the film is the abuse and violence that too many women took (and sadly some still do) as normal in their lives....
What really got me and I loved is the twist of the real "purpose" of what she is hiding... we think that she is running away with a man that appreciates her to start a new life.... Instead she is risking being beaten again by hiding the fact that she is going to vote with millions of other women that had the right for the first time in our Italian history and changed the course of our country by choosing democracy over monarchy.... Awesome 😊
Succession (2018)
Best. Show. Ever.
Watched it once... could not appreciate it fully until I got to finish it a few weeks ago waiting for the last episode and watching it at 2 am... and it left such a void!
Tried to watch/rewatch the shows that are considered by some the best ever... but nothing compares to Succession as it is such a masterpiece on all sides... acting...writing...directing...cinematography... locations...music. It needs to be watched more than once and with subtitles as it's such a deep and smart show that it is easy to miss out on some details and amazing dialogues.
It's a drama, a comedy and much more... keeping close to the world we live in and some actual events.
Jesse Amstrong is a Brit and gives a different side to US events and lifestyle.
The second time around I found the best thing to do is to watch an episode at a time and savour it as some amazing wine... deep dive by listening to podcasts and move to the next episode.
All actors and casting is amazing... but I have a soft spot for Jeremy Strong, he is just unbelievable!!
All characters are fantastic.
What makes Succession so unique is the genius of not being a specific genre, boxed in a 'category', as it is a drama, a comedy, Shakespearean unlike most other TV shows that stay within their own 'tracks', without ever 'swerving' into another direction.
Although some other show are masterful, after experiencing Succession, it gets almost 'boring' being 'stuck' in a certain genre.
Absolutely a must watch television, truly an art masterpiece.
The Last Thing He Told Me (2023)
What could have been....
Watched a few episodes as the story sounded interesting.
Sadly the writing is bad, with very poor and shallow acting... Jennifer Garner's acting and expressions are very annoying and always the same.
Best thing about this series are the locations... best acting comes from the marginal characters.
This is the first Apple Original I have watched that is not up to the very high standards (Ted Lasso, Shrinking, Silo, Severance...) of the production, acting, directing and writing.
I am sure the novel it has been inspired by is very good, worth reading that to make up for the shallow
series ... 😉
