Parallels (2015)
Yawn, Another Sliders
Just bad, just plain bad! Like Sliders this had the possibility to be great, but (also like Sliders) it was given the Gilligan's Island lost and never seem to find a rescue formula. The only time this formula ever worked (maybe it worked for LOST,but I could not stomach to watch that show) was with Gilligan's Island and Star Trek Voyager, and the only reason it worked for Voyager is because it had so many other things going for it. Sliders and Parallels are pretty much the same show, except Sliders made sense in that the device was something covert and Parallels chose the device as a building that shows up in every Multiple universe (no matter how advanced or ruined) with nobody noticing that it is so different or trying to live there/tear it down, etc. The other difference, it Parallels tries to be trendy, which pretty much sums up the target audience as a bunch of dumb kids.
Sliders, and even this movie, could have been great if they left the Gilligan's Island angle out of it. Just think how good it could be with people exploring the multi-verse and dealing with the personal and social conflict of different worlds while being able to return to their own.
Also, the ending sucks. It just ends, period. No closure, just a revelation that the annoying half-Asian chick is taking turns with her duplicates from other worlds to explore the multiverse.
The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (2015)
As Boring as the 1960s TV Show
I stayed away from this movie, because I always found the Man From Uncle TV Show boring at best. However, there was nothing else available, so I decided to give this a watch. I got really excited during the first ten minutes, which were amazing and thought that maybe the people that made this reboot knew enough to make it right rather than the dismal boring formula of the TV series. Unfortunately, I was wrong. The first ten minutes were the only good part of this movie. After that, it quickly descended into mediocrity at best.
Its still on as I write this review and I lost interest in it nearly an hour ago. Do yourself a favor, watch the first 10 minutes, then watch grass grow, which will be far more exciting than the remainder of this movie.
A Matter of Faith (2014)
Too Preachy Little to No Substance
As a Christian, ex-track runner, and scientist who believes in intelligent design; I would say that this movie misses on both sides of the aisle. If done right, then this movie could have been eye-opening. However, the writers know nothing about evolution or intelligent design. As a result, they have devolved this movie into a preaching contest. When will the Christians that make this movie realize that self-righteous preaching does not bring people to God but turns them in the other direction?
Suffice it to say that haters (and so called scientists) who exaggerate the true scientific merit of the theory of evolution to ban the teaching of an alternative theory like intelligent design are just as wrong as Christians who banned the teaching of evolution prior to Scopes-Monkey. In real science, all theories are allowed into the arena and to stand the test of scrutiny.
