Salinjaui gieokbeob (2017)
Extraordinary film, a Masterpiece
We had never seen a S.Korean film and went only by the trailer. The whole thing was a fabulous surprise. Excellent story, writing, direction, art-direction and most certainly, excellent acting by all. The star, Kyung-gu Sol, is a superb actor who handled the different aspects of dementia and Alzheimer's beautifully, but all of the others are incredibly good as well.
You cannot miss this film. We first had to get the right subtitles, but once they were in place, we thoroughly enjoyed the movie. We can even say it is a Masterpiece
The Hateful Eight (2015)
Good, but not great
Acting was great, especially the three main characters Samuel Jackson, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Walton Goggins. I do wonder if Goggins is acting or he's like that. This character was very similar to his role in The Shield. The direction was good but often too slow and the movie was waaaay to long. This would have been a better movie if writer and director had not been the same person. That way the director would have been more critical of exceedingly long scenes and takes. Tarantino makes a big deal of the 70mm format. Really? Who cares today about that? How many people watch a movie in a non-digital theater (or a theater at all)? Gore and non-PC language are par and made sense for the type of movie. Nitpick 1: I doubt white people (or anyone) used "Motherfucker" when the movie was set. Nitpick 2: Tim Roth's character expounds on the difference between Frontier Justice and the job of the Hangman. Would he have done that?
Badge of Honor (2015)
An OK Low-Cost Movie with REALLY Bad Spelling
OK for a got-nothing-else-to-do movie. Whomever was in charge of writing stuff in this film needs spelling classes ASAP. Apart from the "Assualt" mistake in the report, the Credits at the end are FULL of errors: The character appears as "Jocob", another one is "Smauel". Then there are three "Sunt Doubles", an "Add'l Firs Assistant B Camera", an "Assitant Costume Designer" and a "Set Cosumers Supervisor". I'm sure there are other goofs I didn't catch, especially among the First and Last Names of people involved in the movie. One positive thing about the movie is FINALLY using people who really do speak Spanish playing the roles of Latinos something Hollywood, completely surrounded by people from Central and South America doesn't usually do. Maybe it was Martin Sheen's influence or that Agustin's ear would hurt from the bad Spanish found in most American movies. Unfortunately, the director wasn't the right person to check the credits or assign that job to whomever did it.
