Ghostbusters (2016)
Should be a zero (or less)
Expected this to at least be related to the original film in some way. Instead it's some weird reboot with an awful plot and acting to go with it.
The "plot" made zero sense at all. No basis on what was going on or how any of the characters were tied to it. Completely random events that they attempted to tie together but amounted to some guy just trying to release ghosts into the world. There wasn't even anything driving him to want it to take place.
Recognizable actresses, but all of them feel flat. I usually like Melissa McCarthy, but this was a bomb. I think they were going for some humor, but there was none.
The CGI was passable, but there wasn't even any logic to what the "Ghostbusters" ladies were even doing.
All of the cameos were forced and stupid.
This movie deserves a negative rating.
Loki (2021)
Do they accept a zero?
First, I'll say I am a big fan of Loki in the MCU. His character is perfectly cast and absolutely delightful any time he's on screen. Then came the Disney series...
It's so bad, the only reason I think it wasn't cancelled out of the gate is they probably had all of the episodes completed before release.
The plot is beyond terrible. At times impossible to follow. At is very base, it could have been interesting but I have no idea what they were thinking. There isn't a single interesting character in this besides Loki and that's hard when you have Owen Wilson. There's pretty much nothing he can't do, but he just couldn't save this one.
There is talk of a second season. The only thing I can think as to why is they need to try to save the train wreck that was season one.
The Mandalorian: Chapter 22: Guns for Hire (2023)
Guest stars EPIC failure
Someone decided to cast Jack Black, Lizzo and Christopher Lloyd as the main storyline characters in this one... The Mandalorian started out as something unique. Sure, the "Baby Yoda" is cute but very questionable as plot line. Still, many of us slogged thru it hoping to come out on the other side with something great. Instead this felt like really bad local theater. One of those you feel obligated to attend because you have friends taking part. You can't really be honest to their face and tell them just how bad it was - from the story to the costumes to the lighting and sound. Very bad all around. Very very bad.
Knives Out (2019)
Just so-so
The trailers for this film led one to believe we were in store for a comedy. Funny it is not. Quirky maybe? And that's pushing it. It does fall into the realm of a "who done it", but given the list of actors I certainly expected a lot more. Virtually zero character development. Daniel Craig's role was completely miscast. His acting was pedestrian and his accent even worse. Save yourself some time and go find a copy of "Clue" from 1985.
Jay Leno's Garage (2015)
Ripoff
This show is a blatant ripoff of "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee" except with Jay Leno instead of Jerry Seinfeld. Leno was terrible on The Tonight Show and he's bad here.
Death Race 2050 (2017)
If you're a fan of really, really bad B movies this is for you.
The original Death Race 2000 was at least somewhat excusable being it was made in 1973 and it was truly a "B" cult style movie. Death Race 2050 movie is so awful it is as though no time has passed and we're still making films in 1973.
It's not funny, not campy, and so childish that there are videos produced by middle school kids with better overall quality. Malcolm McDowell has done some decent work during his career and he should be fighting to get himself removed from the credits on this one it's such an embarrassment.
If you like the concept of a death race then I strongly encourage the reader to watch the Jason Statham and Luke Goss films and avoid this one.
Land of the Lost (2009)
Randomly Poor
First off, unless you like the type of comedy that Will Farrell brings to the screen just move on to something else. He's childish and immature in (nearly) every film he's done which while it worked well in Elf really fails here.
I was intrigued enough here only because I recall the old television show. Despite how poorly done and cheesy everything about it was, I was hopeful that the movie would be a creative adaptation. Unfortunately this was not the case.
We are led to believe that Farrell plays the part of some kind of scientific genius who was made fun of by his peers. Of course, he turns out to be right and builds a device which is able to use tachyon particle to travel thru time. Mind you, the prop used in the film is beyond embarrassing - looking like little more than a computer board and a speaker. And it just gets worse from there.
Farrell and two others randomly travel into the past where somehow his female counterpart (Anna Friel) understands the language of some of the natives even though her character's intelligence would be just as useful behind the Clinique counter.
The film is all over the place, lacking in plot or direction, devoid of humor, and deserving of razzies and rotten tomatoes. I couldn't even get thru the first hour before I just turned it off.
Noah (2014)
Zero for Biblical Accuracy
I wager the positive reviews are coming from people who haven't even taken the time to read the Biblical account of Noah. Complete and total rubbish from the moment the picture started clear until the end. We took our oldest son who is 16 and debated walking out within the first 15 minutes but ultimately decided to stay just to be able to give an accurate account to our friends who might otherwise be interested.
Shame on the writers, the actors, the directors, etc. A 3 year old's picture book is going to contain more truth than this film.
Total trash. I would give this a zero if it were an option. One would think that with such a high dollar film, someone would have taken the time to employ a Jewish or Christian scholar for some input.
