Misunderstood Homage to Musical comedies of the 40's
15 October 2015
It's understandable how most critics dismissed Prince's Under the Cherry Moon. I'm sure they expected a movie in the vein of Purple Rain, but they missed the point. Under the Cherry moon is at it's heart a light-hearted musical comedy that's as visually pleasing and funny as any of the musicals so popular during the golden ages 1930 to the Forties. It has a solid cast from top to bottom and everyone plays it tongue in cheek. This movie would have been quite at home during the Hollywood golden era. I give Prince his do, Under the Cherry Moon is a delightful nod to an era gone by. Made for an 80's audience that just didn't get, I'm glad that I did.
