Nothing to write home about
3 May 2024
Not a serious film, not very humorous either. The sexy Nicholas could've have been shirtless a lot more often in the film. One mild scene makes the film R, basically for the theme of the film. Hathaway's role did not require much acting. I feel many of her scenes were overacted, especially the teary scenes. The writers from a couple of One Direction songs were welcome, though alike. The exaggeration of the paparazzi is way overdone, as it is in nearly every film depicting 'razzi . The age gap difference of 40 and 27 is not an issue nor an excuse, only for the immoral "moral majority." It's okay for a cis date movie.

Worth Your Time, Better Than Expected
28 September 2022
Johnny Cash is a more respectable country person to represent as an Icon, ( hint to creators before the final cut ) ( In real life he was so broad shoulders, & big in every dimension & the most down-to-earth, no pretension of even a HINT of an ego -- unlike the country person who they wrongly chose to represent as being a "fan" of -- that singer is so phony, majored in marketing & is like Lady Ga Ga -- every one of their public moves is for publicity only, so FAKE ( & yes, I have met all 3 multiple times personally. ) This delightfully true to life, rom com, for the most part, underwhelms the number of historically iconic representations of the gay culture from the past 2000 years, I do wish there were presented longer or more individually in this film. The song sung complimenting the storyline is sounds so good. The protagonist offers hope to those who feel living a solitary life may continue to be their only option, but maturing oneself can bring out discovering yourself as part of a couple.

Representation of many types of the LGBTQIA spectrum can only go so far without dizzying the audience, "Bros" does not overstretch. A 4some did catapult the rating to an erect "R", even though it realistically presented the situation in a realistic light which LGBTQIA people live. This scene is what differentiates the viewing audience in whether to continue watching & educating themselves.

The frank conversation of how young a person can to be exposed to the possibilities of choices they have in life, in regards to personal relationships, is a good sounding board to all people. Love is love is love can be achieved, albeit in very short time periods, to all people, of all ages, & paraphrasing from another film, "Life is like a box of chocolates, you never never what you're going to get" -- but it sure helps to know what options can be available to oneself if we recognize the possibilities EARLIER in life. Strife & Stress & suicide can be avoided & thus prolong so many young lives which are needless taken because they do not realize life does go on after the earliest of relationships, especially when they have such a profound affect on young people. (Tweens, life does go on after the earliest of relationships, even if unrequited, NOTE: the upcoming Nov1 film "Close" ) Confronting the exposure against such bad bills as the Florida "Don't Say Gay" is represented in "Bros" thankfully, while intertwining it in the cause & effect of the main relationship in this film, Brilliant writing to help save young lives, not repress them.

Openness & Respect of all cultural appropriations throupled with the broader the range of types of relationships is what this film is trying to help close minded people realize. There is plenty of room on this planet for all of us, there are no "illegal" aliens. We all are looking to live a freer life, free from injustices & biases, improper judging & discrimination. Alas ignorance from ill-educated & close-minded people, especially these suppose to represent us in the form of a politician continue to build walls instead of tear them down. "Bros" recognizes this splintered reality & simply points it out that even "straights" need to come out to this reality.

The Terror (1928)
Camera used here limited movements due to ..
9 July 2022
The camera's restrictive movements were due to it being in a booth to suppress the loud noises it made. 2022's "Downton Abbey: A New Era" illustrates the accuracy of the time period & actual usage of cameras making such initial talkies. Being the 2nd all talkie film ( after the original "Lights of New York" ) The full length of this film has been lost through time.

Sad Stan Lee & Steve Ditko aren't alive to see this film
17 December 2021
This film was drawn out, they could have easily shortened it by 20-30 minutes. My only other regret was Stan Lee & Steve Ditko are not alive to see this film.

Kodi, aka "Keda," in '18's "ALPHA" proves AGAIN his acting is award worthy
14 December 2021
Kodi Smit-McPhee, 25, was the protagonist, Keda, in 2018's "Alpha." Kodi has "Ankylosing Spondylitis", an autoimmune disease with which he was diagnosed at age 16, that irreversibly affects the spine and joints. We are blessed to have him as indicative of both of these performances, acknowledged by a Golden Globe Award nomination finally at 2022 ceremony, portraying a calculative psychopath. Look for Kodi in the upcoming "Elvis" movie portraying Jimmie F. Rodgers.

Exact OPPOSITE of a " feel good film " Practically Criminalizes Fatherhood
10 December 2021
The Exact OPPOSITE of feeling good is what this movie portrays.. This is George Clooney at his Worst ! Worse than "Welcome to Collinwood" another film of his about ALL Losers. I BEG of Anyone NOT to waste one moment of their Life watching this film. Serious "daddy" issues is the theme of this entire film. The Only way the father figure here could have been worse is if he was a killer.. footnote: Anyone who knows Manhattan, knows the busiest public transportation in the entire Western Hemisphere does not need anyone to have a car there.. unless they are among the elite of the Rich, whom are Anything but Invisible in New York ! I hated wasting this much time of my life watching this Worst Film of the Year which centralizes on how to tarnish the image of Fatherhood, this film took place in early 1970's. This is 2021 where Fatherhood is as acceptable as just as honorable as Motherhood, WHY in the world would anyone demonize fatherhood just for the sake of stigmatizing Fatherhood as something despicable, short of killing someone?! WHY ?!?! This film is not only the Worst film of the year it is Criminal to even consider it for a Razzie Award.. The best for this film is to fade into oblivion & make sure whomever funded this "project" never be allowed to waste their money on a tax write off ever again.

Dan Curtis , failed TV show saved by daughters, destroyed by himself
23 October 2021
Dark Shadows, Dan Curtis' initial idea was a failure, given 4 weeks notice for cancellation. His young children gave him the suggestion to introduce a Vampire in the soap. Then Dan threatened John Frid to be in yet a 2nd movie about the series, "Night of Dark Shadows", fearing he would be permanently typecast John refused. Dan had ABC executive, Brandon Stoddard, not renew Mr. Frid's contract. A very brief time later the Network cancelled the long standing TV series "Dark Shadows."

Dan Curtis to blame for the END of the TV show Dark Shadows
23 October 2021
Dan Curtis young children saved the TV series as it was given just a month left of this flailing project, when his young children suggested bring a Vampire into the show, it was saved, NOT Mr. Curtis' idea. Then Dan had the GALL to threaten John Frid to appear in this film or he would kill off this character on the TV series. Mr. Frid felt it would permanently type cast him, & refused to be in this film. Curtis killed him off and in very short order the long standing TV series was cancelled. Enough said about the significance of this dismal film.

2nd Review Yet 10 days too late as Term:DF already 31K ratings & 1218 reviews !!
7 November 2019
OK, now 10 days too late for the actual review of a film which had been screened TWICE in my city ! For those smart enough to see the 20 minute gay-friendly short "Cognitio" and liked it, you will like this 102 minute film even more. Emma Thompson had the approval of George Michael to proceed with a film regarding the lyrics to the self-titled song, and after nearly 10 years it has come to fruition. Initially paced at a common formula romance story emblazes once a major twist develops. "Game of Thrones" Emilia Clark shines as a lazy worker with a history of medical problems which unfold later in the story. The attractive Henry Golding appears as yet another love interest in protagonist Kate's life, but develops into something more than ever expected. Life is not always as clear or simple as it seems. Writer & mom of said protagonist sparkles as an immigrant with truth and fear personality traits which many in today's narcissistic & too conservative society need to be more aware & empathetic towards, including but not limited to the homeless , whose characters play a pivotal role in the story line. Alternative lifestyles are accepted as they should be in this story as well. The Christmas Spirit is alive and well, not to mention, (in a Dickens-kind-of-way, Ghosts of Christmas past.) Michelle Yeoh's courting relationship exemplifies a character of truth and honor, something most lacking in today's environment, & I couldn't help wanting to see more of it, yet, Ms. Thompson stays true to the plot, and gives proper focus to Kate & Tom's affinity about each other, as a well written story line should be. A feel good story which emanates from every fiber of Kate's being, alternative lifestyles, paying respects to older generations and current generations who are down on their luck, which will illuminate the need for one to pay it forward this Holiday season and in the future, as today's society about honor , dignity, and truth are sorely lacking. Hopefully, this will become a Holiday classic in the style which Dickens originally intended, brilliantly portrayed by Emma Thompson & her husbands written story of a very prominent "Last Christmas" for one, if not for all. God Bless Us Everyone (who shows empathy towards one another, not just certain someone's narcisstic Scrooge self-centeredness.) Lessons to be learned for sure.

Damian Joseph Quinn , far more talemted than look alike Jace Norman & Sexier
12 October 2019
Oh Yes, far more sexier, show in nudity from the behind in length ( no pun intended), a tongue in cheek short film which aligns the theme at the end, funny & talented actor, Damian Joseph Quinn , more so than his doppleganger, actor at the end of his career, Jace Norman. Damian can run circle around him, & does run in this film which half of the time blurs out the interesting parts but in the primary scene in the laundromat eye candy delivers.

mickey was in the film, LB Mayer ruined more lives than helped. Renee Shines.
30 September 2019
Proof, mudgeeera, never saw the film as CLEARLY mickey rooney, though NOT the anti-social person he was in later life, but as a young guy, with references in the film at least twice, he was clearly in the film. anyone should not be allowed to review the film before it comes out, also proof, from "stanleycup" as CLEARLY the trailer showed primarily a Judy in her last year, & Renee Zellweger too old to portray a young "Oz" actress, he not only did NOT see the film but neglected to even view the trailers ! , again, why on one who has NOT seen the film be allowed to offer a review! . Renee, though also not the kindest to her fans, delivered perhaps the role of her lifetime. Judy is thoughtfully not only kind, but apathetic to her gay fans, testimony to her being an icon 50 years after her passing - a very good selling pint to seeing this film... Clearly the filmmakers would have had to pay a steep price to actually use Judy's voice, ( a primary reason Liza tried to dissuade fans not to see this film ,) knowing Liza from the times I met her, her "what can you give me , or you can't have that" attitude -- it is Renee's character which was a good reason to let Renee sing to illustrate at various times later in her life, adding character to Judy's condition at the time, a valid & successful movie decision here. Nominations to follow, No one should imply an Oscar win, just to be nominated is good enough recognition, as winners are not always projected correctly nor should they. The cruelty of Mr. LB Mayer I bet was worse than portrayed in the film, a monster he was, and who actions were detrimental to one of the all time greatest performers -- unforgivable.

misleading film about autographing, shades autistic people
1 September 2019
Odd that John Travolta, whom for years has been known as the nicest to give an autograph that, even Autograph Collector Magazine after 4 years, chose someone else to give another a chance at the "title," would even consider this film. Limp Bizkit's William Fredrick Durst weird sense of reality would have more to do with this than John's stature of fame & celebrity. Disrespecting those with various forms of autism as this film does, is just shameful.

coming of age Netherland gay-themed
12 July 2019
This 9m24s Nordic gay-themed short is a coming of age story, Valentijn Ave whose mesmerizing eyes say more in their direction than some actors speak. The music is well adapted, especially the end credit song "Dance Away." Niels Bourgonje, 29 yr old directed & Edited fantastically. Already received several awards, look for him. Timo Dries's geeky character reminds me of Anthony Michael Hall's performance in "Sixteen Candles." Would like to see more of Valentijn Ave too.

Driving Down Laurel Canyon promulagating THE California Sound
22 June 2019
50 years from the film "Model Shop", "Echo in the Canyon" shows us the real life patrons, characters, singers & musicians as they travel through the magical mystery tour known as the California sound of the mid-late 1960's, & how relevant 50 years later the sounds of folk & rock & harmonic melodic spiritual music expanded our musical culture. Are you intelligent enough to recognize and acknowledge their influence throughout the ages of musical influence ? Jakob Dylan astute thirst of knowledge of the transgression of folk & rock music in this portal of time educates his generation & those of the Millennials & Gen Z. Ag Not all the characters who lived & influenced these times had the time to help teach us their life's journeys which indirectly influenced future sounds of English (American & British) music. Joni Mitchell, as always, preferred to be as a wallflower, and let her music do the talking-- too bad she nor her music were included. Yet at 82 minutes, today's films can only manage to catch the younger generations attention for so long. The older generations scream a sequel for longer and more storytelling & musical journeys down Laurel Canyon Lane.

Lasse Steen Jensen sizzles
22 June 2019
The talented Lasse Steen Jensen sizzles, you'll recognize him from the staple video of Kadie Elder's video "First Time I Kissed a Boy", & "We Are Okay Now" (VI ER OKAY NU.). the other protaganist Lior Cohen holds his own as a "friend" in a psychiatric hospital, the kind you just really have to pay attention to find out how good a friend he is portrayed as. Pay attention and focus on this story about a young lonely man using his abilities to cope. You just have to watch it to get the ending, aka a good thriller.

yesterday, seems like a M Night Shyamalan film -- POST the Village :(
20 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This film is poorly edited. Delete ALL scenes with James Corden . Showing them in the trailer is the ONLY thing you see in the film, with no explanation or follow up. They didn't even make it seem like he was having a nightmare! there's other things that are popular ( albeit with diminishing returns in today's market) but never purportedly heard about. Kate McKinnon plays a good heartless 2nd manager. Yet the interview cut short by her, again makes no sense to the story line, as her character knows notta of any involvement of the Beatles.) Ed Sheeran plays himself, no acting involved, so a safe bet, yet in this film only because Chris Martin of Coldplay turned it down. Lily James (of Downton Abbey fame) is really the only reason this film stays afloat, besides ofc the music of the Beatles. I like that their music is played pretty much solo, except in two key scenes with little accompaniment. Another poor direction is the chemistry between the two protagonists, just didn't seem convincing enough to achieve their "union" in the latter part of the film, before then seemed right on target. There are 2 points which I don't want to totally give away for the film, one being the Beatles complete exclusion,(again the James Corden scenes are totally misleading & only garner attention to see the film, yet if one does decide to spend their money, they will be disappointed, in this regards. ) Near the end is a "HODOR" incident (a GOT fan shouted out at the appropriate time in the theater, Cool moment.) On the 2nd screening, one week later, additions are made at the end to supplement the couple & in the future, their two kids. Finally there is an attempt to bring closure to the Beatles, which using CGI, but I leave it up to the viewer to decide just how "comforting" he is to them.

BEWARE Favored Critics-It's one Big Pity Party of a Film
30 May 2019
BEWARE Favored Critic Reviews because a record amount of FREE stuff was given to all media who attended the sneak previews. Large "R" books, fancy bouquet tied around colored clear wrap, Elton faces on large sticks, etc. I have been to sneak previews when you were guaranteed a pass when they sent you an invitation, those days are long gone, now adays they ( Allied, etc) send out twice as many invitations and whomever answers social media the fastest (forget even email invitations, those are gobbled up with the same IP's merely in a matter of minutes,) so seeing "full" less than one hour of being sent an email is a sad joke, not a proper promotion. Worst part this theater only had about 65 of 110 seats filled, again perhaps there is no policing of IP addresses from social media requests. Never have I seen so much promotional giveaways of any movie in decades, if ever. That is why any "critic" review should be taken with a grain of salt. Fortunately, come Academy Award time, these promotional gimmicks have no bearing. The movie trailer does not accurately show this film as the musical it really is, so many may be turned off by this alone. Mr. Egerton sings the songs himself, though Elton vocal range is nothing compared to Freddie Mercury, so Taron's ability to sing is commendable but not extraordinarily difficult compared to MANY actors and actress who have done the same you would never have known they sing at all, whether they use LaDiDa app, or vocal harmonizers, the final sound in a film is anything but live. This film in no way should be compared to last year's most favored film, but after a few months the distinction shall be realized. Worth a watch? If you like the glamorization of Reginald Dwight, and pass over the real man who despises his "fans" and ironically , the media; which has fallen all over itself to get favorable initial reviews to keep an interest in this film as Summer Blockbusters, Godzilla, etc and the winter (& final) "Star Wars" blasts off to try & catch "Avengers: Endgame" this film needs all the promotion it can get. Will you walk away "getting" Reginald Dwight? of course not, but you will of the persona called Elton John. Sidenote: the portrayal of Elton's first manager was misrepresented completely, further illustrating this films sensationalism rather than a true to life musical, NOT a BioPic. Opening weekend results just in & Rocketman sputters at #3 with $25 million, half of the King of the Monsters & box office, Godzilla.

a Lie-Free documentary acknowledging the intelligent, empathatic& earnest world leader needed in his time
4 April 2019
Initially, let's negate the canucky review as a blind-sided tRump supporter's ignorant response to not even seeing the film, or the likelihood of the ignorant review should not of occurred, but knowing the low education of such maga wearers who knows. annunciaroe's review is very good, yet devoid of substance which I admit may qualify as spoilers. I too wish the drunkard Boris Yeltsin, as he was known to unabashedly be, or the evil Putin, who continued to allow those with the greatest wealth to corrupt the current country collective, were allowed to be acknowledged for what it was and still is, yet this German director stays focused on the illustrious career and selfish coup, while Gorbachev was away on vacation, to be played out through only the events as they occurred. One does have pause to wonder how they were left out to properly show comparison to the great goodwill President of the former Russia to the progressive movements to unite the people's goodwill and well being of Russia, to the unifier of the two Germanys (thankfully little mention of Reagan as the decision to tear down the wall was made long before between Helmut Kohl & Gorby), as well as, Gorbechev's instigator of the world's nuclear weapons short & medium range nuclear arms reductions. There is only so much time a movie can allow to capture an audience, though much was left out itemizing specifics, other world leaders and Secretary of States acknowledge the greatness, sincerity, and intelligence of one of the modern worlds leaders, Mikhail Gorbachev, who legacy will be admired for hundreds of years to come, one can agree, if one watches this honest and lie-free documentary, something the US & world desperately need to report more of, knowing todays political environment.

Iowa Life exposed and suppressed in late 20th Century down on the Farm
26 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I encourage younger viewers especially to get a taste of what country farm life was & sadly still is towards LGBT. The few select gays which tried to subsist on the life they had in the this country way of life they could muster, to expose the few select partners to have any relationship, far from ideal by any means. Certain areas in the US still exist, but more prevalent worldwide. What sets this story apart is how, piece by piece, a young man uncovers the true self of his father, despite grandpa's terrible actions to try and erase who his son really was. Little clues are discovered, and this protagonist gets validation from his dad's friend, though the son has known of this older blonde man for sometime, finally is able to open his eyes fully to his true father's connection, and not the hero reputation he should have had. A relief of only one brief scary scene, a film worth seeing not marred by tragic or violent consequences, that in itself makes this film a must see for LGBT.

Lasse Steen Jensen in Danish music video shines
14 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Lasse Steen Jensen and Marcus Baunsgaard shine in this coming of age Danish short which highlights homophobia in a very catchy from talented duo Kadie Elder. Both Danish actors will go on to promising careers. Lasse already improves upon his talents in '17's "Vi Er Okay Nu" ( We Are Okay Now) & '18's "Cognitio." Marcus' character has an attraction to Lasse's & upon watching from the sidelines,a homophobic Female instigates a scene off court. The admirer subsequently burns his passport photo of the object of his affection. We are to believe that the very boy leaves the match shortly after, and the rejected youth justifiably is apprehensive to the advances of his now former object of affection. Yet a sudden change of heart and acknowledgement is not a toying of one's affection, but the start of "it gets easier."

Margot Robbie AND Saoirse Ronan, Mary Queen of Scots far superior to Lady Gaga in this film
8 October 2018
Venom #1 at Box Office take nearly twice that of this 4th "version" of a "remake ". Venom's opening weekend take of $80 million Blows Away a competent Bradly Cooper version of yet another (4th remake) of "A Star Is Born." $42 mill. Next week, will either of these film blast past the Neil Armstrong story " First Man" ? Any fan of Lady GaGa is delusional if they think her performance in this film is even close than Margot Robbie in "Mary Queen of Scots", even Saoirse Ronan is superior & better than Stefani Germanotta. Best news yet !! Nicole Kidman will compete with the "Mary Queen of Scots " film actresses for the best Oscar, thank God, GaGa will gag and have no chance for acting this year :)
