Astounding story of resilience and strength
3 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed this mini series. All of the actors did a superb job with telling such an incredible story of survival. The musical score was expertly done, and the cinematography was great.

These families have got to be so proud of how their stories were brought to life on the screen.

We are both still in such awe of the strength and love they had for each other. Their stories are heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time, and the fact that they all survived such an atrocious time in human history is absolutely remarkable. Loved ones were lost along the way, but this family's unwavering love for one another is incredibly touching. Highly recommend anyone to watch this masterpiece.

Unique take on a story told before
3 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I wasn't super psyched about this movie, but I do believe it redeemed itself now that I've watched it. It stars some of my favorite people, and tells a well known story from a different point of view. It's funny, clever, endearing, and moving. The ending was a huge twist, and I didn't like the choices they made there.

However, I do think it's longer than it needs to be, and probably has 3-4 too many musical numbers for my liking. It made the storyline a little disjointed and difficult to follow due to all the scene breaks.

Overall, the songs were well written, and the music was fantastic. You can tell how much work was put into the making of this movie (can we talk about the amazing dancers!?) and I appreciated that. I'm not a fan of musicals, but this one was a little different given that were made to feel the silliness. Also, so many hidden gems in this movie, like when Will calls out the guy dressed like Buddy at the Christmas costume party. I cackled! Don't be a Scrooge, and give this entertaining movie a watch.

Nope
6 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
As soon as we started this film I knew it wasn't for me. It's nothing like Us or Get Out; this movie focuses on "alien" type life. Which, if you ask me, has been heavily over done.

I'm also not a fan of animal use in film/television. I did NOT appreciate the violent moments of the movie that depicted animal abuse/violence.

The actors did an ok job with what they were given, but not nearly as strong as Peele's other films. I also didn't like the scene breaks, and chapter type transitions. I didn't get the deep meaning, or any type of symbolism from this movie.

While I do appreciate a 'weird' movie, this was just a big nope for me.

So good!
20 October 2022
I'm not normally a fan of shows/film that rely on jumping around a timeline, but it works well for this mini-series. Evan Peters is fantastic, and I cannot wait to see how doors this role opens for him.

The show did a great job of making me uncomfortable, yet portraying numerous different lives all intersecting with one another. I appreciated the victims points of view, and now have so much more knowledge of their tragic situations. I understand where other reviewers are coming from in that I do believe it humanizes Dahmer, but I don't personally have an issue with that.

I think the show runners did a great job of retelling stories from unique perspectives, because let's be honest, Dahmer has been over produced.

Fun but lacking in many areas
20 September 2022
Having never seen the original cartoon as a child, my husband and I thought this might be a fun sci-fi show to try out with fresh eyes. Now having finished season two, we're still on the fence.

These actors are all individually talented, but lack any sort of character development throughout the show thus far. It is all heavily rushed and jumps around from plot point to plot point without any specific context or lead. We're force-fed information over a hurried "season" that's extremely difficult to remember over a year later. We found ourselves going "ok wait...who's that? Do you remember this? What is happening?"

The show also jumps into storylines so abruptly it causes disjointed theories and major plot holes. It's difficult to ignore to say the least. *season two episode one was an immediate toss-in for viewers without any warmup*

Bottom line, the show is forcing these mid-20s actors/actresses to portray 16-17 year olds, and it's rather painful to witness their behavior that doesn't suit the character ages whatsoever. It's also WAY too rushed. 7 episodes per season? Are you kidding me? No wonder the plot lines are confusing yet predictable.

However, the cinematography is beautiful (it's Ireland so not super challenging to make amazing), as are the special effects and stunts.

Meh
9 September 2022
I had high hopes for this show and it's cast, but I just don't find it funny. The writing is very predictable, and VERY repetitive. The principal is insanely annoying; some of the teachers were given zero character development. Which is disappointing given the talent the actors on this cast poses. Not being a fan of this "documentary" style filming was also quite off putting, much like 'The Office' that I never enjoyed.

I read a lot of these reviews, and the majority of them are from those involved in the education system. I myself am not, so that might be why I feel so disconnected to this show. I am fully aware our public schools are hurting, which made none of the plot lines shocking/surprising to me.

I couldn't get halfway through the first season, and don't plan on watching anymore as I don't find it relatable or entertaining.

Review from someone who read the book
20 June 2022
I liked this limited series. It was very well acted, and was about an 85% crossover from book to script (in my opinion), which basically never happens.

The darkness of the book didn't *quite* translate over to the screen, and I must say it was probably one or two episodes too long. It moved along very slowly.

I had to explain many situations to my husband (who has not read the book) as it was sometimes a little difficult to follow (and hear, good grief). I also asked him what his opinion of the ending was and he wasn't sure what it meant. Having read the book I could see how it was kind of left up in the air for the viewer to form their own thoughts on the conclusion rather than have it blatantly unfolded in front of them (like the book does).

Bad ending
15 June 2022
I love Melissa, so I had high hopes for this one. It wasn't terribly written or acted, and the storyline was unlike any other lifetime movie I've ever seen which is good. However, the last 30 minutes of this film are complete garbage. Such missed opportunities for redemption and healing. Just so, so sad and confusing.

Good actors, bad writing
4 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
They had such great material to pull from, and this is what we get? The story is boring, and makes zero ground work as these wonderful actors (Tom, Antonio, Mark) are all given horrible scripts. It's cheesy, confusing, and only has like three recognizable video game points. And can we PLEASE discuss WHY Mark WASN'T aged for this role? And WHY they made him so greedy and mean!? Just, so, so, disappointing. Love the games, but movie was created with bad choices all around. Even the cinematography was strange.

So. Slow.
26 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I wouldn't have finished this if I wasn't watching it with other people. This film, while well acted, was incredibly slow. The scenes were long, boring, and uneventful. Everyone just sits around and stares. Nothing interesting ever happens, and the storyline is very confusing. The way it was filmed was wonky (props to Maggie though because I do like her), with choppy scene transitions. Title also didn't click with me.

The way people behaved and reacted to situations in this movie weren't realistic whatsoever. The music was also rather misplaced and unconnected. A lot of close-ups and weird/uncomfortable social interactions.

It was not my cup of tea, and I personally wouldn't nominate it for an Oscar. I am however happy for those that did enjoy it.

Well acted but too much fluff
5 January 2022
The acting in this mini series was great, but this show does not follow the book very well. Characters are added, big changes, stories are made up, and every episode had many unnecessary sections. Overall it wasn't bad, and I'm glad I watched it. However, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who has read the book as I have.

Long-winded but we'll acted
3 October 2021
This show was well acted by all, and had great videography. It's a bit intense and honestly makes you question a lot. I didn't care for the main plot of the "angel" (still not convinced that's what it was) or Pruitt and his story. Had a few good twists in there, but overall was a bit cheesy and rather predictable. Nearly every episode could have been shorted by 20 minutes of useless dialogue. So many long-winded speeches and conversations that don't relate to the plot whatsoever.

Not sure where the director was going...all over the place
26 September 2021
My husband and I wanted to give this docu-series a try because it revolves around a person/situation we didn't know the history of. However, we only got halfway through the first episode due to the obnoxious music and sporadic film style.

Those poor individuals being interviewed in the most random locations (some filthy) all had the most repetitive banjo music played over them while they spoke. We could barely hear them telling their stories! There was zero flow or progression with this series from what we experienced. Everything felt like a synopsis rather than the normal progression documentaries typically take on.

I'm just...so confused
9 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
While we all know that Peele is one to think outside of the box, this movie is just strange. I like strange. I like weird movies that make you think and read between the lines. This film did not do those things. I am left so lost due to the amount of plot holes and impossibilities.

I mean, clones? Billions of clones for every person alive. What's with the 'shadow' aspect? It's so inconsistent I'm left wondering if it's supposed to be an integral part of the storyline or not.

Can we also talk about the ending??? Way to sum up a movie with nothing making ANY sense whatsoever. I tried with this film, I really did, but it's just too all over the place for viewers to make any sense of it.

I will say the acting was superb, and the music was great. However, bunnies, random ill-placed humor, creepy situations, and goofy masks just wash away the strong points of the piece.

I don't get it
31 May 2021
Husband and I watched two episodes (couldn't tell you which ones or from which season because nothing is in order, or even labeled for that matter), and came to the conclusion that it's just flat out bad. There are several "haunting" series' on television that outweigh this one by miles. Of the two episodes we watched, neither ended with an actual resolution. We compared it to a show going to commercial break and never coming back. It makes no sense. I don't know why Netflix is doing this, or if these are even legitimate accounts from these individuals. The acting is solid if they're actors, but the stories are rather ridiculous to say the least.

What??
5 May 2021
Started out really intriguing, got a bit slow, scenes started being added that weren't necessary. Then things just stop making sense, nothing adds up, and no one answers any questions whatsoever. And the ending??? What?? This movie was so confusing, and apart from Amanda, terribly acted.

I agree with the other commenters, specifically the individual who said they would rather take a scooter to the shin than watch this movie again (LOL). WOW was this BAD. Netflix has been pushing out some serious pieces of garbage lately!

Seriously???
29 March 2021
Here is my rendition of the writers involved with the finale:

"I see we have two options here. Everything the fans WOULD want, and everything the fans WOULDN'T want. Which should we choose?" To which someone replies, "isn't it obvious?"

I honestly have no idea why anyone thought any of these ideas should be written into production. The episode itself made zero sense to me, and left me saying "this was a decision?" continuously out loud. After such an interesting storyline in Part 4, this is what we get?? Everything felt so rushed, and seriously lacked any emotion or thoughtfulness. Color me extremely disappointed.

How will I ever remove this from my memory
31 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
So, as others have so poignantly stated (and quite hilariously I might add) this "movie" is dreadful. My husband and I were baffled at how this was thing got an icon like Alec Baldwin. The info. and trailer completely fooled us. After sitting through the incredibly painful intro we made it about 9 more minutes and called it quits. How?? Like, just why? So awful. You can't hear anything over the obnoxious music, and the female is doing a terrible job at hiding her accent. Also. Murder? More like self defense in my book. Just so, so very bad.

Beautifully Depressing
30 January 2021
I'm not sure I watched the same movie that these poor reviewers did, because I thought it was strong. The acting was superb (not shockingly), and the story an incredibly sad one that needed to be shared with the world. Yes, some scenes were long and tedious, and I definitely didn't need to see that much of Shia in my lifetime. All in all, I'm glad I watched it even though it was terribly heartbreaking in more ways than one.

That ending!?
25 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I'm a Ryan Reynolds fan, and I've wanted to see this movie since it came out. Unfortunately, the ending of this film completely RUINED the entire thing for me. I wanted him OUT, I wanted him to sue the crap out of his employer, I wanted him home with his family. What kind of film makers chose that as a decision? That was a decision! I'm so disappointed. Acting was great, but this movie is just so frustrating. Don't waste your time like I did, they don't end up saving him.

Confused
26 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I knew going into this movie that the trailer was vague, so I wasn't sure if the storyline would come together. Spoiler-it doesn't. However...there are SO many talented actors in this film (adapted from a novel), so the acting was definitely there. But the plot....WHERE was the plot!? Seriously. Nothing connected to anything (except maybe in the end), and the stories were just awful. Awful. Awful. So much longer than necessary. I would have turned this thing off after the dog is murdered, but my husband wanted to finish it to see if it got better. Spoiler-it didn't.

Utterly bad
19 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
My husband and I have major respect for several of the actors in this movie. Well known, talented, versatile actors that shouldn't have been a part of this production. So mad props to whomever was able to sign them for the parts.

That being said, this movie was utterly awful. We couldn't quite figure out why the director made the choices he did, as the scenes did not flow whatsoever. The writing was DREADFUL. There were scenes insanely out of place, unorganized, simply dumb (things they say are such "duh" moments), and flat out unnecessary. We found ourselves predicting all outcomes throughout. There is no twist, no thrilling value at all. This director failed this story, And the writers ruined the potential with the wonderful actors. I mean, seriously? An old, overweight man date raping a young girl, then chasing a young adult through the woods? It's just so absurd. We were honestly surprised this movie had a 5.8 rating. Don't waste your time on this nonsense!

Good premise, bad ending.
16 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This movie started out with promise. Though, I did I think the parents were sketchy from the get-go. The ghosts were a surprise, yet a typical cliche. My husband and I found ourselves really confused until about 10 minutes before it ended. And then we just kind of looked at each other and went, "oookkkk....what was that mess?" Turns out...He was never sick, but he blistered with reactions to being in unsanitary conditions. His dad wasn't his actual dad, because his mom prayed to the devil for a baby? It's still confusing, but only because it was so bad. Not sure why the writers thought going that direction made it better. Why keep him in a bubble? Why lie? What actually were the first two treatments? Just. Bad. Acting was so subpar, I expected more from them. Really bummed to be honest, as we were hoping for a thrilling, unique take on the original Bubble Boy story. We loved Haunting of Hill House so we thought since it was by the same folks it would be similar, but even the house in this film looks very similar to that from the series.

This movie was honestly something I would expect on the Hallmark channel. The storyline was really silly, the acting was dreadful. I found myself cringing at how awkwardly written it was. The antagonist was utterly ridiculous. Don't waste your time with this one folks.
