The Walking Dead: The Day Will Come When You Won't Be (2016)
I guess if this is too violent you shouldn't be watching a show about zombies
This show was brutal, although the show has had good guys eaten alive and one's face ripped off it's skull by zombie hands but this one people are saying is too violent simply because of who died. If you are a fan of the graphic novels you'd know that Negan takes one person out brutally. Myself I thought the story was greatly written. The series actually toned down the Governor but they didn't do that with Negan. They want you to hate him. They want you to wish for his death every episode. A story can't work without an antagonist and the worse the better for me. I have always loved the bad guys, not because I'm evil but because they are so much fun to hate. We can't have Rick and the crew just killing zombies and getting along with every living person. The world as the group knows it is a lawless society. The zombies aren't as scary as the living. What you need to survive, others need too, they will steal or kill for it. A story like this can only work with a good antagonist and with Negan we have one so bad he's good.
The Boy Next Door (2015)
Who told Jennifer Lopez she could act?
Lucky for me I only paid for this movie with time out of my life. The story was bad, the dialogue was bad and the acting, particularly from Jennifer Lopez was bad, in her case horrendous. This is a story about a woman who has an affair with her 20 year old neighbor. To make things worse is the kid befriends her son. Then it goes downhill after she decides that what she is doing is wrong. He gets upset and starts on a path that the most diabolical person wouldn't do. There is nothing about this movie that is going to make you think, nothing that will make you wonder what will happen next and you'll be glad there isn't a sequel because if there is a sequel there could be a chance somebody could kidnap you and force you to watch this movie. Yes it's that bad. I recently went to my elementary school children's Christmas presentation of A Christmas Carol. The 9 and 10 year old children were more believable in characters of the visiting ghosts as Jennifer Lopez is in this movie. I never had anything against her, I even find her attractive but with only looks she should be thanking her stars she has had any kind of success in Hollywood. Would I recommend this movie? Only if you're into horrible movies that has awkward dialogue, acting, directing and casting. You could just decide to do something more enjoyable like getting a root canal.
The Hateful Eight (2015)
Succeeds in some parts, fails in most
Okay, the movie is beyond unbelievable. That aside it has a few shining moments. Some of the dialogue is good and there happens to be some good acting. The bad, it drags on. It's almost three hours that could have been cut down to an hour and a half which would have raised it's rating. Quentin Tarantino again loves to flaunt the fact he can use racial slurs. He must feel he gets away with it because he adds black actors, making them main characters many times the hero.
A disturbing part of this film is the graphic detail Samuel L. Jackson gets into describing him raping and sexually assaulting a white man. While Quentin Tarantino makes cameos in his movies he doesn't here, he does for the first time in this movie start narrating right after this descriptive scene. He is lisping with delight as he talks.
Kurt Russell and Jennifer Jason Leigh are good and each brutal in this movie.
To sum up, this is a western that takes place 90% of the times in a one room building, the fact they pulled this off is impressive, would be a lot more impressive if the movie was actually better.
Daddy's Home (2015)
This movie was beyond horrible.
One star? You mean I can't vote anything lower? The same tired Mark Wahlberg and Wil Farrell you have seen before. Imagine a semi funny SNL skit, not one you'll remember and talk about later but one that may have invoked a smirk. Now stretch that skit into a movie, without adding any more of the funny and you have Daddy's Home. I can only surmise the decent score this has received is from plants from the movie company, at least trying to fool you and sucker you into going before you have a chance to hear just how painfully dreadful this movie is. Is is a spoiler if I tell you this movie is horrible? If anyone is hoping for something as funny as their movie The Other Guys which was bad but had some funny parts, forget it. Mark Wahlberg is the most perfect, absolute awesome and macho step dad, wanting to thrive and doing it well. Will Farrell is the real dad, a bum.
There, leave your brain at home. You won't need it and you'll thank me later.
Fear the Walking Dead (2015)
Early review three episodes in and it looks promising.
I have heard the gamut of reviews, from this being horrible to great. My opinion is the show is on track for what it is. A show about the onset of the zombie apocalypse. To me the best part of The Walking Dead isn't the zombie kills but rather the human psyche while this is going on. Human's need to survive while civilization is collapsing. Are you trusting or are you ruthless? It turns out that the most dangerous thing during this is other humans, needing what you have for them to survive and vice versa. The Walking Dead was good about this, albeit did get slow at times. Yet there was the onset seeing basically patient zero become infected. When the series took off the apocalypse was already in full force. Here we get to see society, from a huge city, Los Angeles crumble. From the police killing infected people, making mobs turn violent thinking unarmed people are being shot to people not understanding why their loved ones are feeling ill. That's not to say it isn't without fault, to me people seem to understand what is going on a little too quick, although I think this is to please the masses who want a quick start to the zombie killing. The children so far are annoying, from the drug addict son to the obnoxious daughter but I must remember I hated the character of Jesse Pinkman in Breaking Bad at first then came to love his obnoxious behavior. Kim Dickens is a great casting call and Rueben Blades is always good although one thing you realize don't get too attached to characters. All in all it's a good start and nice to see a different perspective, from the timeline to the geography location.
Lila & Eve (2015)
Nothing new predictable story for the most part
This is a story about a mother who has her son gunned down in a drive by shooting. While struggling to raise her other child she seeks comfort in a support group for mothers who lost children. The story does a good job to show the emotional pain and problems a mother going through this would encounter. Viola Davis does a good job in her acting of a grieving mother. When the revenge part of the story comes it seems a little forced.
I am finding it hard to believe anyone is saying that Jennifer Lopez can act, she is downright horrible. I haven't seen acting as bad as hers since my small town high school did it's rendition of the Music Man. She is stiff, everything she says is forced and not believable.
Then there is the big twist that everybody talks about. I clicked spoiler in the title but I still will not fully spoil the "twist". Let's just say it's a copy of another movie. The other movie is popular and a better movie all the way around. Still dying to know what I'm talking about? I will give it, the twist was in a Brad Pitt, Ed Norton movie. That should explain it.
I do feel I wasted time out of my life and thought it best to warn others.
Bones (2010)
Wanted to like this
I wanted to like this because it takes me back to a time when life was easy. Love period piece movies. So when I saw Zakk Wylde was in it I knew I had to check it out. While Zakk is the man, a funny guy and incredible guitarist the fact comes down to he can't act. Sometimes the movie rambled along with dialogue that was improvised as they went along. Retakes maybe could have happened a little more. Without giving anything away Zakk plays the uncle of a guitar prodigy, who he feels is wasting his talent when he should be out west starting a band, I know, silly. Zakk's character felt he missed out on his chance to be Ozzy's guitarist, see what it did there? So he tells this kid to chase his dreams as the next guitar god. The kid has some things happen along the way and at the end Zakk and a young girl appear to do what would only be considered...weird.
To put it simply it really is a bad movie which is a shame as I wanted to like it. Nothing more I can say except thankfully Zakk still plays music and he is much better on soundtracks.
Wet Hot American Summer (2001)
I should have loved this
I am a child of the 80s, turning 13 in 1980 and my whole teenage years through them. This film was made for me. I saw the stars and couldn't wait to see it. Was I disappointed. It was beyond bad. I don't want to come off as a movie snob but this had no humor whatsoever. I enjoy intelligent and horribly childish movies. I can watch crude humor and not roll my eyes as long as it's done right. This movie is a snooze fest and horrible but not in a good way. For the votes that say it's an instant classic I can only surmise they are afraid they will be out of some sort of cult loop so they lie and say how much they enjoyed this. To say this was one of the worst movies I have ever seen isn't an exaggeration it's the truth.
