The Titan (2018)
Strange sci-fi with some twists
Going into this you might think it's a savior apocalyptic type movie, or maybe action, or straight sci-fi..: but it's a weird twist... without giving too much away, for the first quarter I felt like it was an apocalypse type movie where we try to save the world. Then I thought it was more sci-fi for the next quarter of movie... now I'm getting a vibe of "the Astronauts wife" I'm the insidious manner... I don't think it deserves such a low rating. Just try it. It's entertaining.
I Want You Back (2022)
Good break up movie
Good cast. Funny but serious I guess. If going through a breakup, it's very good.
Charlie day and Jenny slate are hilarious as always. I didn't recognize the rest of the cast, but they were good.
It's a full circle, kind of getting closure movie. It doesn't try to sugarcoat the hurtful things.
Excision (2012)
Do you like High camp and satire and examining sexuality minus the male gaze? Plus just strange heady stories with a twist of horror? This is it
I loved this. There is camp. There is satire. Ducking John waters is in here. It's feminist. It's heady. It feels like a blood soaked teenage female fever dream. It's rewatchable and quotable. The cinematography is great for a film of this budget. I just loved this.
Jarhead (2005)
I don't even like war movies as a genre, but this is my fave movie all time
Amazingly brilliant and funny and serious movie about the monotony of war. If you don't see the cleverness of watching young hopeful marines joining boot camp for many reasons (hope, poverty "getting lost on the way to college",) during the early aughts and ending up in Kuwait's war covered in literal oil at the end, man idk.
I love this movie.
In a Relationship (2018)
It's edgy, emotional, raw, and a little funny, but not a comedy like it's listed
I liked it in a "too close to home" or "I wanna cry" or "I've also been in a series of ducked (sic) relationships" kind of way. Very self deprecating. Very cathartic. Much heartbreak. Includes drugs, sex, heartache, cheating, growing up.. I liked it, but it's far from a comedy like they play it. It's an edgy heartache that people go through and you feel it when you watch it.
Happy Accidents (2000)
I am just writing this to say, how is a movie
About drama, Time travel, and mental illness a "chick flick" just because they focused on Marissa Ts point of perspective in the story? It still focuses on homeboy?
If it was a male perspective film, you would just call it a creepy, sci fi, cerebral film and The woman would likely be more of a male fantasy sex prop that shows her ti55s in two scenes for male titillation, but that's not a "dude film"?
THAT WAS A GREAT RIDE OF A MOVIE! They had me guessing till the end, and for me, I loved the whole journey... is this sci fi? Thriller? He's wrong. No she is.
The final seen had my heart racing for several reasons. I like a good film that takes its time stirring you up and then boom.
The Cell (2000)
I've watched this again for the 20th time
So good . So many good art references. I mean... just try it
Late Night (2019)
Punch to the gut. Entertaining the entire way, and it has heart.
I woke up in the middle of the night thinking it was 6 or 7am, and just put this on because it was on my list and wanted to go back to sleep to some noise. I have not gone back to sleep. This movie is funny in a subtle way; a "haha" in kind of a depressed way.
Man, this movie was a punch to the gut. It has the "watchability (is that a word?)," of an easy going, candy coated, background film that you might watch over and over throughout the years, just because it hits you right... but it also so deep and thoughtful... the jokes have meaning and are kind of sad.
I will watch this movie again. I'm surprised to not have heard about it before. I don't write a lot of ratings, but I felt it was important here for people like me. It was very good.
Unrest (2017)
The only reason I'm giving this movie 5 stars is because it is interesting to see such a hoax be taken in earnest... even in IMDb ratings
So, this movie is not a masterpiece as the other "reviewers" (check the 10/10 reviews, all 1 time reviewers with cheesy headlines "it was life changing!!!!") might want you to believe. Even if I believed what this doc is shilling, it wasn't a life changing eye opener that makes me want to go march for their cause as the apparent reviewers claim they are now doing (they go as far to invoke woke hashtags and slogans for their awareness cause despite just having learned about it this viewing?).... just like... the obvious allowance of fake reviews that aren't even trying... is like... lol ridiculously transparent? And then there are some legit reviews that are critical as if this is an honest film or something? And I'm like, did you zone out and look at memes the whole time, because this is clearly some sort of lobbying thing or cash grab for the filmmakers... it doesn't deserve a critical review lol...
Listen, as a human being outside of this review, I have no idea of chronic fatigue syndrome exists, and I would not doubt that there is a yet to be discovered diagnosis for those who actually suffer, and that there is a scientific reason behind it... I started watching this "documentary (?)" because I'm an empathetic person who wants to learn more about others suffering....
But this movie was just kinda ridiculous and over the top and seemed fake and scripted and bizarre...
Watch it if you wanna notice creepy/funny/disturbing signs of the dystopia we live in, where any self appointed "honest" film is just another cash grab or lobbying ploy, and people actually buy it and create hype by word of mouth because of clever marketing teams.
I'm not trying to sound like a mean person, I came in this for a doc about health and struggle, but now I feel like I got hit by a baseball bat from both sides unexpectedly.
PS: even many of the negative reviews like 1/10 link to the "cause" or info on how to support. Sketch
