Tulsa King (2022)
5 stars because Sly is Sly, the rest gets 2
Nonsense on steroids. Do the writers even read their own scripts or know their own characters? Have they ever even been around a real soldier much less an assassin?! For lack of time and interest I'll just showcase two inanities. One being, sheesh, the fat dummy biker shooting holes in the bar expected what to happen, lol. Did he expect the mafia dude to come out waving a white flag or did he expect to have holes shot through him while standing there in the open looking like the broad side of a barn. And his girlfriend the 'explosives expert' who did not one, not two, but three tours in Afghanistan where there really was a whole lotta Bada Bing, Bada BANG, Bada BOOM going on and dead people everywhere goes all to pieces when fat boy doesn't come home from his tour of duty doing target practice. She goes all to pieces as if it's the first time she'd ever been acquainted with matters of life and death. KA-BOOM! Do we hear four tours! C'mon man!
The Orville (2017)
Bravo!
There's that Seth the borderline genius again! Excellent show for the young people especially. Many wonder what audience this show and both new Star Treks (among others) play to what with all the rave 8, 9, 10 reviews and usually I feel the same being old and creaky myself but now and again everything just clicks. The crew from top to bottom all really invest themselves and it shows. This is one of those times. Well done indeed! All involved must be very satisfied.
Island of Lost Souls (1932)
Fast forward..
Fast forward to the year 2022 of our (not so) brave new 21st century and nuff said but since I have to reach at least 150 characters, I'll only ask; Are we not men?! (nuff said)
The Orville: Electric Sheep (2022)
Seth is a borderline genius, nonetheless..
And way up above near the top, commenter rmmil "Great SFX, derivitave screenplay" (yes with Spoilers, lol) has pretty much laid out in plain facts, logic and English the who, what, when, where and why this episode gets a generous 4. Very nice (too nice) synopsis. Thank you commenter rmmil.
Barry (2018)
Comedy is King
Just as soon as this show, bolstered by some good acting pacing, caught on it went up up up quickly and this episode proves it. Hader is great and Stephen root is the new Rip torn, lol. Some funny talented people at work here and when it works it's truly entertaining..
Better Call Saul: Hit and Run (2022)
Keep on growin'
One of the better TV shows out there. The rare gem which keeps getting better, this latest season included. The shift into more moody neo-noir feeling and pace works very well for this ongoing saga. Thumbs up!
Star Trek: Picard: Hide and Seek (2022)
Eureka!
BBB: Build Back Borg! Now why didn't I think of that! Hot dog! The uber-amalgamation of every virtual and imagined Sci-Fi genre past, present and future combined and solved in three familiar sounding words; Build Back Borg. Gosh, and for better or worse not a lick of divine intervention in sight, just pure raw blonde woman power! Yeah, that's the ticket..
Tetsuo (1989)
Metallica eat your heart out..
Anytime anyone asks me what is the strangest, weirdest, most over the top movie I have ever watched, I direct them to this one. Taking heavy metal, celluloid and psychosis to where no heavy metal, celluloid and psychosis has gone before! Metallica eat your heart out! No, really..
The Book of Boba Fett: Chapter 1: Stranger in a Strange Land (2021)
Sheesh
More childish nonsense so unbelievable it ought to be illegal.
At least the producers etc. Could put a warning label on this giant sack of sand so anyone 5 years of age and older could avoid the bother.
Star Trek: Discovery: The Examples (2021)
Maybe I should be Captain..
Or at least Commander of Common Sense because the first thing I would do before I risked my life rescuing the worthy (and sooooo grateful) prisoners from their doomsday underground confinement would be to target the prison power suppy to disable the boundry perimeter pattern interrupter and any A. I. Warden lurking in its quantum safe space. The ships phasers might do the trick. Ya think? Oh and maybe a couple of EMP bursts to disable all these pesky roving landmines, etc., etc., etc. But hey, I'm just a lowly Corporal..
Star Trek: Discovery (2017)
Going the wrong way
The idea is to go uphill not down hill. This show started out great. Intelligent dialogue and drama mixed with a proper and timely amount of weapons fire, excitement. The A. I. concept was cutting edge and thoughtful. Exciting even. Now it's hardly more than just another space soap opera with gooey romance and the mandatory women are better than men, except for maybe gay men or milquetoast philosophers. The absolutely inordinate amount of bang, crash, boom, explosions and errant weapons fire is inane. Season 4, episode 1 was incredibly lame with five minutes of out lovestruck heroes dodging laser fire which proved to be hardly more than cartoonish. Maybe I'll check in the rest of the way just for the laughs.
To sum it up, it's the usual neo-progressivism (aka) Human Devolution.
Dune (2021)
Much ado about not much
Having read Dune when when it first burst upon the scene, like every sci-fi fan extant and having watched every Dune sequel, series, and movie since, I still like Lynch's best. The parts with Sting outshine anything in this newest movie all by themselves.
Nine Perfect Strangers (2021)
Neurotics 'R' Us
Pseudo mystical mish-mash of every clique and humorless humor spouted by lame-os sprouted in a society of ipods poorly disguised as people. And that's just the first episode! I'm sure they can increase the nonsense ten fold by the end of neurotic episode 2.
Loki: Lamentis (2021)
Ohhhh the humidity
As a single tear ran down the face of Thomas Bulfinch..
Taboo (2017)
waited and waited and dammit!
Film excellence. A bona fide gem. Hardy and cast are superb. Bravo!
No encore feels like punishment..
Ted Lasso (2020)
Rub and Rub
Super show of talent all around. Refreshing even.
It's the old big things come in a small package, trick. And sometimes the genie is barely five feet tall! Like this guy Jason (rub rub) Ted. Or my dad.
Heeeey, he's not by chance related to Audie Murphy is he? Mickey Roonie maybe, lol..
For All Mankind (2019)
The Right Stuff ain't what it used to be..
Taking Woke to where no Woke has gone before!
But they do get a star for the mighty Saturn V alone.
UFO Witness (2021)
To Serve Mankind
It gets a 7 for the genre alone which people are starving for. Also the personal credibility with the early on (40s, 50s) military family connection and the real life people. Everyday people are sooo much more believable than celebrity egoists. Hey, we're not in the 20th century anymore, Toto. The real 21st century question these days might as well be . . . Who hasn't seen a UFO?
The Mask (1994)
It really is a spicy meatball!
A spicy little classic is what it is. Super funny because of Jim. The special effects were and still are excellent hilarious entertainment as well. Jim is so physically talented it was at times hard to tell where the Mask finished and Stanley started up! Supporting cast was great! Easy to see they were all having fun with it.
Vikings (2013)
Epic entertainment!
The audience can't get enough of this type historical-fiction. Starving for it the same way we starve for quality science-fiction. And I don't mean the teenage super hero stuff thrust upon us "in this day and age." Quality isn't cheap or easy anytime it seems but it's never more evident than now.
Vikings is one of the best Norse / Viking series ever. Made great by not only action, vistas and violence from man and nature and the gods alike, but also and especially by some really great actors. Encore!
Young Sheldon (2017)
Peach fuzz
Sheesh, Two weeks, three weeks, even a month between episodes!
Young Sheldon grew four inches in the interim and is that peach fuzz I see..
Update - Sheesh, March 11 and not another episode until April 1, no joke.
Another three week hiatus. I predict by the end of the season Young and rapidly aging Sheldon will be shaving and maybe even singing soprano..
After Life (2019)
Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful!
Great cast, great performances, real life and then some. What a superb former hoi polloi Ricky is. A big part of why us current hoi polloi love him..
The Comey Rule (2020)
Shortest review allowable by law
Fibber Jim Comey's legacy is the FIB. Can't bleach that.
And then there's McCabe and Mrs. Clinton.
Can't wait for the movie!
Raised by Wolves (2020)
A real gem!
Pretty daring and even more daring as promised by ending of Season 1.
Intelligent and morally aspiring it tries so hard but the world(s) just won't let it.
Self defense, dontcha know. I think the phrase is "same as it ever was"
The Stand (2020)
Hard to be epic, again
Only 2 episodes in but it's already hard to even imagine this competing with the original which actually wasn't bad at all (1994). Sheesh, Flagg actually looks like a pretty nice guy to me.
It's a 6 after 2 episodes. Fingers crossed..
