Serbuan maut 2: Berandal (2014)
Who says sequels always suck?!
After coming across The Raid: Redemption years ago on HBO, I remember the movie wasn't even over yet and I was already on my phone buying it on Blu Ray through Amazon. Just an action packed ass-kicker from start to finish. And let me tell you, The Raid 2 is just as bad ass.
Rama is back to avenge his brothers death, but starts to get mixed up in this crime gang, and the roller coaster ride starts quick, and doesn't let up.
For me, I was never bored during this film. Even between the action sequences there is always enough atmosphere and tense situations to keep you busy.
One of my favorite parts of this whole film, is the cinematography. My goodness it is BRILLIANT. The creative and exciting cinematography mixed with the fighting stunts literally had me laughing out loud in that "This is too bad ass" sort of way.
I would recommend, if you bought it, to watch it with subtitles. I watched it with the English voice-overs and it definitely took something away from it. So I ended up watching again with the subtitles and it was a little cooler.
Great acting, great fight and action sequences, unbelievable cinematography, and a movie that in my opinion is an absolute must see.
*I've never written reviews before, so sorry if these are extremely bland and boring lol, hopefully I'll get better.
Billy Club (2013)
So slow, you almost forget what's even going on.
I must say I was pretty bummed over this one. Slashers are my favorite style of Horror, and after seeing that bat with all the nails and self made bayonet attached, I thought this might be an awesome one.... I was very wrong.
I'm all for a "So bad it's good" movie, but this is just BAD. The acting is really ridiculous, almost inexcusably horrible; and this goes for really every singe actor and actress in this film. There was a typical Slasher movie stoner who was kind of funny, and actually probably the best actor in the movie, though that isn't saying too much.
The story is FULL of plot holes, and it doesn't seem to make too much sense, ESPECIALLY the twist at the end. As I mentioned in the title, this movie drags on so long in between kills that I started to forget what the hell was even happening in the plot. I didn't remember any of the characters names either, all just forgettable throughout. Usually the teens/people in Slasher movies are pretty dumb, but they take the cake in this one. At the end the female character sees a murder and freaks out saying "I need to get out of here!", and instead of jumping in the truck parked outside that has worked throughout the entire film, she decides to run into the woods. What the? The most bizarre and ridiculous scene in the whole entire movie happens when one of the male characters jumps in his truck to go on a drive and think for a minute, and he is joined by another male character who goes to help him get his mind off what's happening. They stop at the edge of the woods, where the driver then tries to kiss the passenger? Out of no where. And after being denied he says " I'm not gay!!" and gets out and runs into the woods? There is just so many stupid and unexplained things that happen in this movie, and by the end I couldn't wait for it to be over.
Other than a few kind of gory kills that looked half decent, I'd stay away from this one. I was going to buy it on Amazon just because I like to collect movies good or bad. But after checking it out on Hulu, this is just too bad to add to the collection.

3 movies in one, plus an awesome reboot!!!!
It's surprising to me how many people give this movie so many bad reviews. It's got everything a slasher should have, plus more.
I LOVED this reboot. It starts off with bag face Jason worshiping his mothers decapitated head, which is wicked cool. His mask which he eventually finds, looks really awesome and grittier than normal. It's basically the first 3 movies (minus the boring parts) rolled into one. And the overall look of Jason may be one of my favorites in the entire franchise. Jason really is a MASSIVE lumbering maniac.
Now, why people hated this movie really makes no sense to me. One of the things you always hear from slasher films is "How does the killer catch up to them?" or "How did he know they were there!?". Well, this reboot explains all of that, which I thought was seriously amazing. We've got this big giant maniac of a creep, with underground tunnels and caverns, with booby traps all over the camp to know at all times where these stupid kids are. I love that. I also loved how they used the whole summer camp thing in this as well. His archery skills and his axe throwing, I thought were really neat and pretty brutal really.
We get some great kills in this movie, as well as some iconic scenes. The whole wood chipper chain necklace scene is in this one, and done really well.
For me, this movie nailed it. It had the gore. It had the stupid kids, and the one scummy kid that you couldn't wait to see die, a girl getting steamed alive in a sleeping bag. What's not to like? And one of my absolute FAVORITE things ever, was just the beastly-ness of Jason. Him RUNNING around, added to his horrifying size, made this a Jason that you'd truly be afraid of if you were in these kids shoes.
I recommend this one, ESPECIALLY if you're a fan of the old movies. Give this one a shot.
The Town That Dreaded Sundown (2014)
Killer (no pun intended) Reboot/Sequel!!
Maybe I'm just easier to please than most, but I absolutely loved this movie. It was a really awesome, never that boring, and pretty interesting slasher film; while also being sort of reboot/ode/sequel to the original.
I don't know if this qualifies as a spoiler or not, but sort of like in "The Human Centipede 2", the original Town That Dreaded sundown is a movie about a situation that happened in an old town.
The cool part about the movie for me was the whole copy cat serial killer thing. Trying to scare the town again, the killer copied what he saw in the movie to take out some of the townsfolk, in sometimes pretty brutal fashion. With some pretty neat cinematography, some decent acting, and cool lighting, this whole movie was extremely watchable and interesting from start to finish.
Bottom line is, I've watched this a few times now, with different groups of friends. I happen to love slasher flicks regardless of their sometimes cheesy and lame stories and effects, and I would recommend this movie to any fan of slashers, or good watchable horror films.
