Missing Kenley (2022)
A movie that makes you think long after you've stopped watching it
I watched this partly because I live in Nova Scotia and vaguely remember when this happened in 1992 as we had just recently moved here. The reviews here range from 1 to 10 and everything in between, so you know when that happens it's a must watch
The film does manipulate the viewer a lot and I think purposefully. First you think this and then you think that and then wham something else. After the first couple episodes I was thinking wait a sec these people met Kenley what for three weeks 30 years ago and they have all of these very detailed memories of him and their encounters. But then the police bungling takes over your emotions and then the Greenpeace turn comes around the bend only to be ultimately a dead end in the plot. And then the final twist. It was a worthwhile trip and you'll do good to finally remember that these are supposedly read events not a made up Hollywood story. I hope there is a sequel or even a 1 hour followup.
Night Sky (2022)
Wonderfully engaging
It took a while to get into it. It seemed very slow paced, but I was just not recognizing the time it takes to develop the characters. Episode two threw me for a loop, as I had to double check that I was still watching the same show.
It's a shame that 6 hours after the series premiered on Amazon, they announced the series was cancelled. It's Firefly all over again.
Let's hope the stupid people that cancelled it are replaced by smart people who will re-instate it.
Warrior (2011)
The willing suspension of disbelief
A competition of 16 of the world's best fighters ends up with two brothers, one a high school teacher who had some UFC experience, and the other who as far as we know had zero experience. And they beat the world's best fighters? How are they even allowed in the competition?
Radioflash (2019)
yikes
The only thing that could possible make this movie worse, is if Shailene Woodley had been in the lead role. The plot is bad, but even this plot didn't deserve this horrible level of script writing.Powering the HAM radio with a car battery and no inverter? Full disclosure I wrote this review at 47 minutes in because I wasn't sure how much longer, if any, I would last.
Spoiler: Even the fox eating out of Grandpa's sink elicited no questions.
Eleven Eleven (2018)
Can there be a worse movie?
This is quite possible the worst movie I have ever seen. Even that John Travolta space movie at least had a plot for the first 5 minutes.
The Poison Rose (2019)
Almost had 4 stars
Up until he hid from the sniper rifle behind foam and leather football pads (!?), the movie still had 4 stars from me. But when he ran out of bullets and took out the sniper with a football...sorry the final score is 2 stars. And those 2 stars are mostly for the cinematography. The plot gets zero stars
Come on John. Has life gotten that bad for you that you have to resort to this kind of movie?
The Gateway (2018)
Mediocre...until the last minute
An interesting premise, with bad writing and bad acting. Others have mentioned the horrible score. From the first minute I knew it was an Australian film, in the same way I can often identify a Canadian made film.
That being said the movie was interesting enough to hold my attention. Some parts are just to bad to ignore: ie the scene where she is driving in the car and gets waved over to the side of the street by the police officer, only to have a Pakistani detective come up to the car to ask if she has seen anything suspicious. OMG
My rating of 2 stars was eventually raised to 5 stars because of the last minute of the film, which of course I can't divulge!
