Malignant (2021)
Proof that if James Wan is involved people will like anything
The movie opens with a scene so badly acted I thought it was a "movie within a movie" being watched by the main characters. I actually had to check to see if I was watching what I just put on or if something had glitched. What follows is not much better. Cliche after cliche, Wan using the same shots from his other movies but with nothing behind them, all while "current horror movie music cues 1-12" play in the background.
The reveal of the actual killer....there were people who didn't start laughing their heads off at this? If this was 1974 and a B movie for a drive-in I guess having Quatto from Total Recall coming out of her back to murder everyone would work, sadly it's not. How this got made will forever be a mystery to me. A bigger mystery than why they put that wig on Anabelle Wallis for the film. This was a dumpster fire, start to finish.
Malatesta's Carnival of Blood (1973)
Pure Garbage even for '73
To enjoy this movie because it's bad is to be as pretentious as the folks that made it. Incomprehensible trash from start to finish. Someone wrote this was "existential"..... no, it's just amateurish and awful. Barely a plot cobbled together so the director and set director can show how pretentious and up their own a$$ they are. Using footage from classic films that are in the public domain like some kind of homage. Did the director and writer actually watch those films? Did they notice that even with no sound they made sense? I've watched a lot of bad movies, this is hands-down one of the worst. Rather embarrassing it's made its way onto streaming, literally anything is better than watching this.
