The Equalizer (2014)
8/10
One Of Denzel's Finest.
1 May 2023
Denzel Washington is one of the greatest living actors of this generation, and The Equaliser is a very well made film that allows him to showcase his outstanding acting abilities.

The Equalizer is a thoroughly enjoyable action-thriller that has superb performances from both Denzel and Martin Csokas, the latter portraying the main antagonist of the movie, with their sit down dialogue scene in the restaurant across the table from each other being one of the coolest and most memorable scenes in the whole movie.

I recently went back and revisited this movie in anticipation of the 3rd movie in the trilogy being announced, and had a very good time with it. If you enjoy action, violence and superb acting, then I highly recommend giving this movie a watch.

8/10 for me.

Fall (I) (2022)

Anxiety level 10,000 !!
8 September 2022
This movie made my stomach turn more than once... as someone who is quite afraid of heights and hates rollercoasters, boy was this a trip.

First off hats off to the director, the way this was shot was so intense and had you feeling like you were right there on that tower with the two girls, experiencing every thrill, every gust of wind, every close call, man was this well shot.

I did appreciate the twist, I won't elaborate on it for those of you reading this that haven't seen the movie yet, but there is a twist regarding one of the main characters that I didn't see coming that added nicely to the story.

All on all i thoroughly enjoyed this movie... although I don't think enjoyed is the right word lol it was nauseating but not in a bad way !! Definitely worth watching so I highly recommend.

The only negative I have is that I felt like the ending was a little rushed, and wrapped up pretty quickly... I would have liked to have seen a bit more of exactly how the situation came to be resolved p, but yeah a solid 8/10 for me. It was awesome.

Basically a rip off of death sentence
24 June 2022
This is basically just a rip off of James Wan's death sentence. Death sentence is wayyyy better, if you haven't seen it skip this and just watch death sentence.

Sensational, thrilling and heartfelt.

The original Top Gun was a classic, one of those pieces of movie magic from the 80's, so coming into the sequel I had a lot of reservations about how good it was actually going to be.

Could it capture the same magic that the original managed?

The answer is a phenomenal YES ! Everything about Top Gun Maverick was sensational, from the jaw dropping flight sequences, to the brilliant pacing, the emotional connection between the past and the present through characters like Iceman and Rooster.

I'm not ashamed to admit that I had a tear in my eye towards the end of the movie when Maverick and Rooster embraced on the deck of the ship, and that's exactly what good movies are supposed to do!! Draw you in and make you emotionally invested, Top Gun Maverick did a superb job at hitting the feels.

This is a spoiler free review, so if you are reading this and haven't yet seen this piece of cinema gold, go right ahead and book your tickets !! What are you waiting for.

Midnight Mass (2021)
6/10
80% long boring monologues 10% cool 10% action.

80% long boring monologues 10 cool 10% action.

That just about sums up midnight mass. It was hard to get through the first few episodes as they were so boring, then towards the middle things start to get mildly interesting ending in somewhat decent fashion.

If you're a fan of the haunting of hill house, don't expect this to be anything like it.

Malignant (I) (2021)
7/10
A really cool and original concept.
10 September 2021
Malignant is a really cool and original movie, it blends elements of horror and thriller together in a somewhat familiar way if you're a fan of Wan's previous work, while still managing to hold an incredibly original twist towards the end of the movie which I doubt many people will see coming.

While I didn't find it to be particularly "scary", I did really appreciate some of the beautiful cinematography and overall I would definitely recommend watching this movie, the only caveat being that you go into to it blind without knowing anything about the plot as to not spoil the major plot twist which is revealed towards the end.

It was all going great until the ending... *warning contains spoilers*

Warning: Spoilers
*** Warning this review contains major plot spoilers ***

So I've just got done watching this and I was thoroughly enthralled the whole way. This was a fine thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat never truly knowing what's going to happen next. I loved every minute of it until the ending, which ruined it for me. It would have been so much better in my opinion if his family actually was kidnapped and he ended up saving them. The ending was kind of wack for me.

Overall though a solid 7/10 and well deserving of a watch.

Now I know why this movie is so revered.
4 July 2021
I'm quite ashamed to say that as a self confessed cinephile at the age of 37 I had never watched The Shawshank Redemption until today.

Of course I was aware of it and how highly regarded it is, but I had just never got around to watching it until today, and man was I glad I did.

I regard The Shawshank Redemption more as a work of art, beautifully put together and very simplistic in nature. At its essence this is a movie about people, about hope, about friendship. I thought Tim Robins and Morgan Freeman simply stole the show and showcased just what brilliant actors they are.

My personal favourite movie of all time is Christoper Nolan's The Dark Knight, but it is very hard for me to imagine another movie replacing The Shawshank Redemption as the greatest movie ever made, due to just how perfectly executed it was and how emotionally invoking it is as a viewer watching the story unfold.

An absolutely brilliant movie, one that must be seen by any film lover, and one that is well deserving of its place at the summit of the IMDB greatest ever movies chart.

Black Summer (2019–2021)
6/10
Zombies how they should be done !!
27 June 2021
Probably the best representation of how absolutely terrifying zombies would be if they were ever real.

In Black summer they absolutely nailed the zombies, they are fast, ferocious, unrelenting.. a far cry from some of the ultra slow, not really that scary zombies we have seen on screen before.

There is a lot to like about Black Summer, in particular season 1. The gritty, realistic way it's shot puts you right in the heart of the action. Filled with tension and realistic look into how society would fall apart in such a situation.

I personally preferred season 1, the snow filled season 2 just didn't appeal to me as much.

Would recommend watching for anyone considering it !!

A Beautifully, Moving Tale Of Love Amidst The Cruelty Of CF
2 June 2019
I'm writing this review literally straight after watching this moving, with tears still fresh in my eyes from the ending.

It's hard to know where to start, but I'll go with the incredible performance of Haley Lu Richardson as Stella.

She was absolutely wonderful in this role, and I was drawn in straight away to her character who comes across as such a happy, fun, likeable young lady despite the chronic illness that she's battling all throughout the movie.

She had me so emotionally invested in Stella and her hardship living with CF. Just an outstanding performance from such a talented young actress.

Also the soundtrack was amazing, the choice of music and when it was played really meshed superbly with the overall tone of the movie.

I'm trying to keep this spoiler free, so if you haven't seen it and are contemplating watching it, I would highly recommend you do so immediately! You will not regret it.

I gave this movie 10/10. I honestly don't know what could have been better.

It was perfect.

Halloween (I) (2018)
9/10
A masterpiece of a sequel.
21 October 2018
Wow, wow, wow, boy did this deliver.

Kudos to everybody involved in the process of making this movie, they absolutely nailed it.

From the opening few mins, when the investigative journalists go to visit Michael I knew this was going to be something special.

It's very rare that sequels are generally considered better movies than their originals, think : The Godfather 2, :The Empire strikes back, :Terminator 2

In my honest opinion, I will add Halloween 2018 to that list.

I don't want to give too much away to those who haven't seen the movie yet, and are just browsing reviews, but rest assured whether you are a fan of the franchise or not, you will be thoroughly enthralled and entertained at the cinema.
