Notorious (2009)

"Notorious" was very entertaining and humanizes Christopher Wallace
17 January 2009
Unless you were a close friend, classmate, neighbor, relative, or business associate of Christopher Wallace, you would never know the REAL "Biggie Smalls." You knew Biggie Smalls the "media creation" and marketing product of Bad Boy Records.

I think this movie gives the indifferent B.I.G. fan another side of his personality. We've all seen the photos of him frowning with his hood "I'm so hard, don't fu** with me" scowl, but how many people saw B.I.G. playing with kids or talking to his Mom? That's where this film delivers. Is it perfect? No. Only a documentary would provide you with raw, gritty, real life truth. This is not a documentary. This is a "mostly truth combined with entertaining Hollywood exaggerated fiction" movie.

Bottom line, I enjoyed the film. Jamal Woolard not only carries his weight, but he carries this movie. For someone who is a first-time actor, I was extremely impressed with his performance. If anyone else had played B.I.G., quite frankly, I don't think I would have enjoyed the film. Derek Luke was entertaining at time, Angela Bassett did her normal "concerned mother in the hood" role, and Naturi Naughton gave a balanced performance as X-rated lyricist Lil Kim.

But this is Woolard's movie. His performance is by far the heart and soul of this film. Bravo to the young rapper known as "Gravy." I will look out for Woolard's projects from this point forward.

Not up to par ... even for a Tyler Perry film ...
23 March 2008
I was never "big" Tyler Perry fan, but at the same time, I've never been a "Tyler Perry Hater" either. I always give his films the benefit of the doubt, and I really enjoyed "Why Did I Get Married?" This movie though, "Meet The Browns," could have been an ABC Television Network After School Special. Everything about the storyline was cliché', formulaic, and predictable. The characters were CARICATURES of real people.

I laughed here and there in this movie, but overall, I was vastly disappointed in this effort. It's like Mr. Perry just "threw this movie together" without much thought.

Rob Lowe's best feature-film performance
1 January 2007
Warning: Spoilers
This movie is ranked in my Top 25, Top 30 movies of all-time. I love this movie.

Rob Lowe is more believable as Lucifer than Robert DeNiro was in "Angel Heart." His character, Alex, told the truth: The Devil doesn't 'make you' do anything in life that deep-down you don't have a desire to do yourself. That's how he works.

James Spader played his role to the tee. A lot of underlying messages in this movie about moral, values, ethics, and priorities. Excellent film. This is the perfect movie for Yuppies, and aspiring Yuppies to see. Is materialism your "God??" Do you marry now and days for true love, or because the woman is beautiful and the man has social status and wealth??

Some people have suggested that James Spader should have played "Alex." I totally disagree. Rob Lowe was PERFECT for this role. He had that "pretty boy" handsomeness that made his manipulative ways more disguised. He plays Spader's Character to the tee.

Definitely worth viewing....

Great Sequel to "Talk Dirty To Me" (1980)
6 July 2005
Warning: Spoilers
Most sequels don't come close to the original, but this sequel was actually very, very entertaining. (Note: Technically, "Nothing To Hide" (1981) is the true "sequel" to 1980's "Talk Dirty To Me." This was a different director, and studio, than the original)

On the surface, this is just another porno flick, but if you examine this adult film on a deeper level, you will see that this movie reveals a lot about people's sexual behavior, and women in particular.

Dr. Anne Childs (Bridget Monet) is your classic example of a woman who is "prim, proper, and prudish" in public, but a kinky, erotically uninhibited, highly sensuous woman in private, behind closed doors. If you're a man, you've probably met dozens of women who fall into this category. In urban slang, women like this are referred to as "closet freaks" or "Wholesome Pretenders."

"Jack" (John Leslie, excellent as always) knows how to bring out the "inner freak" in women. That is his #1 specialty. And he does that well in this movie. The character of 'Jack' could arguably be categorized as "The King Of Verbal Seduction."

There is a book on the market entitled, "Mode One: Let The Women Know What You're REALLY Thinking" where the author mentions John Leslie's character of 'Jack' as an inspiration for some of the principles outlined in his book.

One of the Top 10 best adult films of all-time
6 July 2005
Warning: Spoilers
As one user already stated, the main appeal of movies like "Nothing To Hide," and "Talk Dirty To Me" (1980), is that they don't seem like "run-of-the-mill" porno movies.

They seem more like mainstream, R-rated movies, that JUST HAPPEN to include XXX-rated, explicit sex scenes in them. In other words, if you took out all of the explicit sex scenes, this would STILL be a good movie.

I think John Leslie's character of "Jack" is the single best male character **EVER** in an adult-film. When he was an actor, he was my favorite male lead, and I still like him today as a writer/director/producer.

Best Adult Film EVER
6 July 2005
Warning: Spoilers
I would argue that "Talk Dirty To Me" (1980) is the best adult film ever produced. John Leslie's characterization of the cocky slacker, "Jack," might just be the single most profound male lead in any adult film I've ever seen in my life.

The opening seduction scene involving the pretentious, seemingly prudish female physician (Cris Cassidy) might also be arguably one of the all-time best seduction scenes ever.

In my opinion, this is the movie that truly introduced the concept of "Verbal Seduction." I don't particularly care for adult films where men & women just enter into a room, and simply begin having sex. B-O-R-I-N-G. I love movies where a male character actually has to persuade, and SEDUCE, a female character into having sex with him. Great, great movie.
