Made just well enough that it doesn't trivilalize it's serious subject matter
7 October 2022
Film is an interesting blend.

A "boss girl" type film, the protagonist even has the typical sassy inner monologue.

However the movie has an incredibly nuanced portrayal of a woman who has suffered serious trauma.

Many films portray victims as weathered survivors.

This film shows the victim as extremely put-together and successful.

It's a take I haven't seen before, and it's definitely one that is good to see.

The movie uses two incredibly sensitive topics as plot devices, if the movie was any lesser, it would have trivilalized those topics.

But the unrelenting nature of the portrayals of those topics only adds to the movie to show what the protagonist has overcome.

Surprisingly great.

Cute, sweet, and funny. A few belly laughs

Day is convincing enough but Slate is the standout.

Highly recommend if you're a fan of the genre, or want a cute romantic film.

I laughed. I cried. I felt love, I felt anger, frustration and genuine happiness. I don't think I have felt so genuinely for fictional characters before.

Im a gaming pseudo-dudebro shitposting uncultured marvel fanboy.

I didnt think a TV show about a single moms struggles would hit me so different. But man.

I laughed. I cried. I felt love, I felt anger, frustration and genuine happiness. I don't think I have felt so genuinely for fictional characters before.

No character is purely evil, or perfect. Every character is flawed and complex.

I didn't know just how much nuanced layers characters could portray through a tv screen. There's levels to this game man.

I highly recommend this show. None of my friends would appreciate it, I haven't seen a thread about it. But it's so good.

Why is Justice Smith putting on this terrible fake deep voice. Sub par erotic thriller. Sub par eroticism, sub par thrills.
11 September 2021
Terrible.

I can't get over justice Smith trying to put on a deep voice like a 12 year old.

All the bad reviews are people who think they're smarter than a movie that's purposely campy.

This movie was fantastic.

Unrestrained horror ridiculousness.

Don't take it seriously, because it certainly doesn't take itself seriously.

And you'll have a great time.

Near excellent action with extremely cringe dialogue

Incredibly aesthetically pleasing cinematography.

Great action sequences.

But God the acting of the kid is so trash.

And the script doesn't help, at all.

Line after line of absolute cringe.

Great horror popcorn flick.

Great tension, great kills.

A lot of fan service for this type of film, but for what it is, it's great

I wouldn't think too much into the character development, it does a poor job of justifying the unjustifiable.

Just enjoy it for what it is. A scummy guy killing some other scummy guys in entertaining ways.

Trash crime horror show.
25 August 2021
One of the worst I've seen. Better off watching Hannibal.

Acting sucks, the twists suck, the writing sucks.

All the cases revolve around pseudotechnology. The writer's have googled partially news relevant terms such as 4chan and uses those as twists

Waste of time.

An hour of celebrity self indulgence.

Two guys shower a celebrity in praise and stroke their ego, as they bless a lowly peasant worker a renovation.

Trash show, honestly pathetic tbh.

Insufferable celebrity worship circlejerk

Watched the Gwenyth Paltrow episode, honestly one of the worst shows I have ever seen.

Just a constant flow of talking about how amazing the celeb is, and how much of a god they are for granting their peasant followers a renovation.

Absolute trash.

Airplane thriller crossed over with vampire horror.

As a horror fan, extreme enjoyable.

Unrelenting thrills, decent horror action.

One of netflix's stronger horror movies.

If you pretent the absolute trash writing is a stylistic choice, it's not too bad.
20 July 2021
Decent watch if you can overlook the aboahktely attrocious script. Like actually the worst I've seen in such a high budget movie.

Who actually wrote this? Its so bad man.

But if you can pretend they did it on purpose, as a stylistic choice, the visuals and action are pretty decent.

Weak character development, fantastic slasher action.
11 July 2021
First one was weak due to being all over the place

Second is a more confined, almost pure slasher movie.

The characters are still all unlikable and the weakest parts of the movies are when they're exposition vomitting their life stories.

But when the action picks up, it really picks up. Brutal kills and almost at a non stop rate.

Great slasher flick.

Exceptionally thrilling action with terrible character moments.
2 July 2021
Pros :
  • Exceptional alien action
  • Great monster design

Cons :
  • below average character moments
  • SciFi aspect incredibly weak
  • to much made-up science nonsense (ala Godzilla King of the Monstersa

Strong 7.5/10. Great popcorn flick. But you'll spend a lot of time looking at your phone when they try any kind of character development.

Trash script, trash acting. But exceptional zombie action and action cinematography.
18 June 2021
This shows script is one of the worst I've ever seen.

The actors do what they can, but even some of the acting is incredibly weak, which amplifies the crap writing.

But the zombie action is second to none on TV. And filmed incredibly well.

Don't expect a character development heavy, Oscar worthy acted show, but just enjoy the blood pumping, buttclenching zombie action and you'll be good.

Strong 8.5/10 for what it is.

Much better than expected. The insightful look at modern Chinese culture is what keeps this movie better than average.
14 June 2021
Others have said modern day alladin, which is true.

Minus the charm of Robin Williams, but an insightful look into modern day Chinese dating society where your wealth and success is directly tied to your viability as a potential romantic partner.

Another thing I enjoyed was large focus of the movie was on the development of the genie.

Enjoyed it much more than I thought I would.

Solid 7/10.

Well structured, classic style action movie.
16 May 2021
Overall enjoyable. Reminds me of the late 90s action movies, before shakey cam, and over the top fast and furious popcorn flicks or the attempted hyper realistic John wick style films.

Visually appealing set peices, relatively weak story but carried by great acting from all key characters (Jolie, the kid were standouts but Bernthal and his wife, Littlefinger and Nick H were great too)

Enough character development that there feels like there is some stakes involved.

Many of the top reviews complain about needing more clarity in the story.

But why?

Just enjoy two well dressed merciless assassins blasting everyone in their way so they can kill Jolie and some kid she's looking after while set in burning forest.

This isnt the DaVinci Code. Get over yourself.

Out of touch, boring.
16 May 2021
Incredibly out of touch, main actress is literally a mid 30s woman playing an 18 year old.

Characters are all stereotypes from the 90s, and not in a self aware kind of way.

Also the violence sucks if you're one of those horror buff types.

Avoid.

Enjoyable film, but the score and visuals make the movie from above average to great.

Strong 7.5 a few of the movies messages felt a bit forced, pacing was almost jarring at times but a very good movie overall.

Awesome popcorn flick.
2 June 2019
Really really REALLY enjoyed it. Amazing action, and a lot of it.

This movie avoids two pet peeves I have about blockbuster movies 1. when the protagonists are too strong, and it's not even a challenge or struggle to win. 2. The final battle is too short.

This movie definitely avoids those two issues. Godzilla is a lot weaker than gidora, so it's fun to cheer him on. The fights spare no expenses, and they last for a satisfying amount of time.

The human characters were passable. The story was honestly fine, not noticeably worse than any other blockbuster movie story line. There are a few questionable decisions, and some motivations for one character that flips back and forth are not entirely fleshed out but that's my only real gripe. Also there are just so many side characters. Many of the side characters could have easily been combined into one. It has its flaws in terms of the humans story, but its honestly no worse than any other blockbuster. I have no idea why the critics are so harsh, when something like the mission impossible storylines are just as average, yet it gets 90%+ on RottenTomatoes.

Definitely go see it if youre a fan of the first, fan of godzilla, or a fan of giant monsters fighting each other. And the story is honestly not as bad as the critics make out to be.

As good as you hope it would be, not better.
26 May 2019
A movie about superman if he was evil? an interesting concept, though popular in comics has yet to really be done on the big screen The movie is good, but not great. If you are a horror fan, i would recommend it. its solid enough of a film that it carries the above average horror aspects of it.

There are a few gripes i have with it, some things i wish were expanded on. a bit more character development would have been nice, or character internal conflict. everyone does a decent job, elizabeth banks is good-very good.

but as a horror movie, its very good.

But if youre hoping for something more, you might be disappointed.

7.5/10 for horror fans 6/10 as a movie overall.

Surprisingly good horror movie
26 May 2019
Dont want to spoil too much, but if you are a fan of horror it is definitely worth a watch. A few twists that are predictable and a few that are not. Movie is stylish, and very enjoyable to watch in terms of visual appeal. Acting is a bit weak at times from the two main actresses, but it could be the writing or directing. but solid enough to carry a movie like this.

I mean, if you have a netflix account, its a lot better than a few of the other netflix horror movies that have come out recently.

7.5/10 for horror fans 6.5/10 as an overall movie.

Tacky.
17 November 2011
American horror story... this is a show about a family who moves into a haunted house.

Basically the show comprises of:

  • Typical movie family... An adulterous husband. A wife that spends half the time crying. A rebellious daughter. And so forth.

  • Every cliché you can think of from horror movies... Resentful ghosts. Hands from under beds grabbing peoples legs. Mad doctors. Generic serial killers.

  • A few taboo subjects such as abortion, sexual deviance (gimp suit) and a mistreated disabled girl to give the show... a little edge. But they throw those things in for no reason. You can tell that the only reason they put it in was because it would shock and offend just enough people, and get a gasp from their show. Abortion! Oh no they didn't! High school shooting! Oh no they didn't! Dead babies! Oh no they didn't!

They throw this all together in a blender... and TA-DA. For a lot of people... mainly people such as the Glee audience (no offence, I think Glee is a great mediocre show) and say someone who likes Supernatural... for those people this show would suit them perfectly. "Kelly Stevenson posted OMG MY HAIR CURLER BROKE TODAY. WORST DAY EVER. ALSO IM WATCHING American HORROR STORY OMG DIS IS SOOOOO SCARYYY xx"

But if you have watched enough horror films or seen enough serious TV series, you can kind of tell this show lingers awkwardly in between mediocrity and the vain attempts to push the show into something more... unique.

Also... too many things happen for no reason. Why does the neighbour want to kill the daughter? NO ANSWER. Why do the house/the ghosts want to hurt the new family? NO ANSWER. Why did the serial killer kill these nurses? NO ANSWER.

Also some things are just answered simply because... it's supernatural! Why does the maid look like an old lady to the wife and a hot young woman to the husband? SUPERNATURAL Why is there (no one inparticular's) hand under the bed? SUPERNATURAL Why are the ghosts hanging around and some killing people? SUPERNATURAL Why did this person come back to life? SUPERATURAL

All that being said, there are some good points. The acting is not bad. Most, if not all the characters fit their roles (their roles being generic and done before). The creators did not cheap out with loud noise scares (jump scenes). They genuinely try to creep out the viewer. Key word there is TRY. The show is entertaining. You throw it on when you have nothing else to watch and it will pass the time. Take the show too seriously and you are an idiot.

MAKING LOVE TO A DEAD NUN. See what I did there? I put something "SHOCKING" into my review... so it must be a new and different style of review! SUCH INNOVATION! (You get my point.)
