Impulse (2018)
Severely underrated.
This one flew completely under my radar and I only gave it a shot cause I was bored on YouTube one day. Amazing show. Wasn't sure what I was expecting, some kind of webseries type affair, but this would fit right in on Netflix. Really surprised, but pleasantly so. Definitely would subscribe to YouTube for this.
Inhuman Condition (2016)
Amazing
This is a fantastic little webseries. The production quality is brilliant, and most importantly the acting is superb. I've always loved scifi and fantasy stuff, but very often it's all about the flash-bang- whiz. Now don't get me wrong, I love me some flash-bang-whiz, but I also love the quiet character moments that really delve into the characters and explore their situations and emotions. That's what this series is in it's entirety. People dealing with extraordinary situations in a very grounded and realistic way. Really and truly, give this series a chance.
Dark Matter (2015)
Great show that's quickly finding it's legs.
I'm very much enjoying this show from what I've seen so far. The acting is solid and the sets are amazing, especially given the relatively low budget. They went all out too, no greenscreens, but a real, live set that gives the ship a much more realistic feel. The characters start out as relatively blank slates, but they literally just woke up from stasis with no memories. You can't expect the show to give background and instant development to characters in such a situation, but it does a fair job. Honestly, a lot of the 'stereotypes' people are using are VERY broad and have no real baring. I've seen the main female character described as the 'action chick', with not much more attention paid to what makes her different. Same with the 'black guy', a stereotype that can in no way encompass an entire characters personality, given that it's just a physical description. People are even complaining about the fact that there is an android and a young character with coloured hair (who herself is quite interesting). What I'm saying is that don't listen to them when they say that the show is made up of clichés. The characters are enjoyable so far, and while some of them can be seen as stereotypes (sword wielding Asian, asshole who likes guns) the rest are interesting to watch (with the exception of One, who makes my teeth hurt). Zoie Palmer's Android is a highlight, with some of the mannerisms you'd come to expect from an AI, but still very endearing with a subtle, budding sense of humor that I hope we get to see more of. The character of Two has a quiet sense of strength about her, with a level head on her shoulders and no desire to prove herself as a badass. She's a lot more than the 'action chick'. It's still in it's baby stages, but with a few more episodes to build up some of the world and reveal more character development, this show can definitely stand on it's own.
